Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Bank Card
Aurora stared at the screen, her mouth slightly open. Did she just… apply for a bank account?
It didn't ask for her ID, her address, or even her age. It felt way too easy, and that made her nervous.
She leaned back in her chair, chewing her lip. Seven days.
That's how long she had to figure out if this was real or some kind of scam. Her mom would freak out if she found out Aurora was messing with online stuff like this.
"Okay, don't panic," she muttered, tapping her fingers on the desk. "Let's see what else this thing can do."
She went back to the main page.
The same box was still there, asking her to submit purchase details. She glanced at the clock.
It was late, and her mom would check on her soon.
Curiosity buzzed in her mind, but the smart part of her said to wait.
Aurora quickly closed the browser tab, shut off her computer, and crawled into bed. She stared at the ceiling, her thoughts spinning.
"What if it's real? What if I can finally buy whatever I want? Help Mom with bills? Get new clothes, new shoes…" Her heart pounded just thinking about it.
But what if it wasn't? What if it was some creepy scam and someone showed up at her door?
Aurora rolled over and buried her face in her pillow. "Ugh! Why can't life be simple?"
She decided to wait. If the bank card actually showed up, she'd figure it out then.
For now, she'd keep this little secret to herself.
The next days were excruciating for Aurora.
She couldn't eat properly, couldn't sleep properly, and even showing off to others became a difficult task for her.
Adam and Mary became worried about Aurora.
They even went as far as increasing Aurora's pocket money to $10.
Aurora kept the money in her safe. If it was some other day, she might have used it to buy chocolates for her friends and solidify her persona as a rich young lady.
But now? Aurora just wanted to save as much as she could.
Since her Junior School was over, Aurora had a lot of free time. Normally Aurora would have used it to stay over at her friend's place, however this year, she stayed at her home.
She would sit on the sofa, from 8 am staring at the door and watching her siblings and parents leaving the apartments, to 10 pm.
On the seventh day, during the afternoon, a delivery man arrived. After Aurora signed the receipt, he handed her a small package.
Aurora's hands were shaking as she closed the door behind her. She stared at the box for a moment, her heart thumping like crazy.
"This is it," she whispered. "This is the moment."
She grabbed a pair of scissors from the kitchen and carefully cut open the package.
Inside was a plain white envelope. She pulled it out and ripped it open.
Her jaw dropped.
There it was—a shiny new bank card with her name on it. "Aurora Waters."
She flipped the card over.
It had the usual stuff: a card number, an expiration date, and a customer service number.
There was even a paper with instructions on how to activate it.
"No way…" Aurora whispered, her voice shaky. "It's real?!"
She danced around the living room for a minute, clutching the card like it was a golden ticket. But then she froze.
"What if it's still a scam?" she muttered. "What if I try to use it, and something bad happens?"
Aurora sat down and reread the instructions.
It said to activate the card by linking it to the 200% rebate system account. There was even a QR code she could scan to log in quickly.
Her fingers hovered over her phone, but she hesitated. What if this was a trick to steal her information?
'Come on, they didn't even need your information to create a bank account for you. Do you truly think they need your information?'
If it worked, she could finally stop worrying about money. She could even help her mom pay the rent.
"Okay," she said, taking a deep breath. "I'll just activate it. If something feels weird, I'll stop."
She scanned the QR code, which took her back to the 200% rebate system website. This time, a new button appeared: "Activate Bank Card."
Aurora clicked it, and a small form popped up. It only asked for the last four digits of the card number and a confirmation that it was her card.
She filled it out, hit submit, and held her breath.
A loading sign appeared. After a few seconds, a message popped up:
"Bank card successfully linked. Welcome to the 200% rebate system!"
