Chapter 83
Lu Qin transferred away, as if she had only been at Liang Secondary School for a two-week tour.
The school’s official website had updated all its promotional content to feature Quan Zhisui, showcasing not only her running video from the sports meet but also her slam dunk moment during a basketball game.
Quan Zhisui instantly became even more famous, solidifying her status as the school’s rising star.
The door to the U-shaped building’s rooftop on the other side reopened, allowing Zhou Chun to return to her little study spot to tackle problems alone. She had always been academically strong, and after a brief dip, she quickly caught up. Now that she was no longer the class monitor and had more freedom, she devoted even more time to her studies.
Quan Zhisui also made significant progress. After Wei Shixu resumed tutoring her, she improved once again in the weekly tests.
As the weather grew colder, December was quickly drawing to a close.
One morning, Wei Shixu arrived on the second floor carrying an elegant gift box. As he turned the corner, he saw a senior-year boy standing at the entrance of Class 1, holding a large bouquet of flowers.
It was a bouquet of roses with an apple tied in the middle.
“I’m here to see Quan Zhisui,” the boy said.
The smile on Wei Shixu’s face instantly vanished, and he stood there expressionless, watching.
Soon, Quan Zhisui appeared in the hallway. She looked at the bouquet being offered to her, her face filled with confusion.
“Quan Zhisui! I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?” the boy declared with a smile.
“No,” Quan Zhisui replied instantly.
The boy’s smile froze for a moment, but he quickly recovered and pushed the bouquet forward again. “It’s fine. Today’s Christmas. Take the flowers and the apple as a gift.”
“I don’t celebrate Christmas,” Quan Zhisui said, not even lifting a hand.
The boy was surprised. “Huh? Why not?”
“I only celebrate traditional Chinese festivals,” Quan Zhisui answered matter-of-factly.
Her response left the senior completely speechless!
Meanwhile, Wei Shixu’s smile returned, spreading across his face. He strode over and handed her the gift box. “Happy birthday.”
Quan Zhisui was stunned.
The senior boy, on the other hand, looked both shocked and embarrassed!
Wei Shixu shot the boy a sharp glare, his voice low and warning. “She’s mine.”
Sooner or later, she will be!
In the end, the senior boy left without giving away the flowers or the apple, driven off by Wei Shixu’s words.
Quan Zhisui remained standing in the hallway, still processing what had just happened.
When Wei Shixu turned to face her, the earlier fierceness was gone, replaced by a gentle, almost tender expression. “Take it. Today’s your birthday.”
It was his birthday too.
Quan Zhisui looked up at him. “How did you know it’s my birthday?”
She didn’t even know herself!
Wei Shixu hesitated before answering. “Last time, you said you didn’t know, so I looked it up and found out.”
Quan Zhisui suddenly grabbed his hand. “Then… did you find out the exact time too? The birth certificate?”
The specific time was crucial!
Wei Shixu was taken aback. “I thought you’d be mad.”
As he spoke, his gaze burned as he looked at their intertwined hands.
Quan Zhisui pulled her hand back. “A little, but if you didn’t have bad intentions, you actually helped me.”
Back when she was studying metaphysics, her fellow disciples all knew their birth details and would analyze their fate and fortune.
Only Quan Zhisui didn’t. She would use her master’s birth details to practice, almost dissecting his entire life!
No one could resist being curious about their own fate, and she was no exception. The birth details, including the exact date and time, had always eluded her.
Wei Shixu smiled. “I’ll send it to you. I spent a long time picking out the gift, so take it.”
The two walked side by side into the classroom, heading to the back row.
Quan Zhisui accepted the birthday gift and opened the box to find a transparent glass dome.
Inside was a red bear made of preserved flowers, wearing a string of agarwood around its neck. Surrounding the bear was a pile of sparkling jewelry, so much that it nearly filled the dome, as if the little red bear had fallen into a pile of diamonds.
It was a scene straight out of a fairy tale!
“It’s so beautiful!” Quan Zhisui was unusually happy today.
Everyone loves receiving gifts.
Wei Shixu was even happier than she was, leaning on the desk and watching her with a smile.
Quan Zhisui picked up the agarwood necklace and sniffed it. “Would it be a waste if I used it in medicine?”
Wei Shixu was surprised. “You recognize this? It’s agarwood.”
Quan Zhisui nodded. “Of course. It’s a medicinal ingredient, but it can also be worn as jewelry. It’s good for the body.”
Wei Shixu continued to smile. “I almost forgot. You know traditional Chinese medicine.”
Quan Zhisui shook her head. “Not really. Just the basics. I’m not that good at it.”
She was still best at martial arts.
Wei Shixu pointed at the glass dome. “If you’re not good at it, how did you immediately pick out the most expensive item in there?”
At this moment, his smile was radiant. Seeing her so happy filled him with joy.
Quan Zhisui suddenly realized something. “You gave me too much. These are all expensive, aren’t they?”
The already pricey preserved flower bear was overshadowed by the pile of jewelry inside the dome. The jewelry was made of diamonds in various colors, not to mention the rare, possibly centuries-old agarwood necklace.
Wei Shixu looked at her. “Didn’t I tell you? I’m very rich.”
Quan Zhisui blinked. “Oh…”
What a coincidence. She was broke.
Wei Shixu asked again, “Do you like it? Is my gift the best?”
For some reason, he couldn’t help but compare himself, wanting to be the best in her eyes.
Quan Zhisui paused before answering slowly, “Actually, this is the first birthday gift I’ve ever received.”
And the best one.
Wei Shixu’s gift wasn’t just about the expensive items; more importantly, he had brought her the birth details she had always longed for.
So she was truly overjoyed!
Hearing this, Wei Shixu lowered his gaze. “Before, you didn’t know your birthday, and neither did your master or fellow disciples.”
“Yeah!” Quan Zhisui nodded emphatically, then smiled again.
When Wei Shixu looked up again, his eyes were deep and unreadable.
So, this was her first birthday gift!
This strange, indescribable feeling was overwhelming!
He had won big!
Since reconciling with Quan Zhisui, Wei Shixu had been very restrained, not lingering around her for too long. He would make his presence known and then return to his seat.
Quan Zhisui carefully packed the little bear back into the gift box, not even tearing the seal.
Then, she took out a piece of paper and wrote down her birth date and time. Wei Shisxu had given her the Gregorian calendar date, so she converted it to the lunar calendar and began analyzing her fate chart.
At that moment, Kong Mingze strode into the classroom, shouting, “Wei Shixu! Happy birthday!”
He was carrying a huge bouquet of flowers and an enormous box. Who knows what was inside, but it was so full that he could barely carry it. He plopped it all down next to Wei Shixu’s desk.
Quan Zhisui looked up, her expression one of shock.
They shared the same birthday?!
Wei Shixu accepted Kong Mingze’s gift and turned to look at the back row, his gaze meeting Quan Zhisui’s directly.
What a coincidence, huh?
Quan Zhisui’s phone lit up.
[Wei Shixu: You were born in the morning. I was born at night.]
Same day, but different times.
This information surprised Quan Zhisui again, interrupting her fate analysis and bringing her back to reality.
She remembered her master’s warning: while birth details could predict one’s fate, nothing was absolute. Life was shaped by countless factors—environment, experiences, education—all of which were forks in the road.
There were also external interferences, like Quan Zhisui being abandoned and then brought back to Liangxi Town. These events mattered too.
Even if two people had identical birth details, their lives could take completely different paths.
Moreover, Wei Shixu’s birth time was different from hers. The last pillar of their birth details differed, meaning their destinies weren’t entirely aligned.
Life was about respecting every experience.
What was meant to come would come; what wasn’t shouldn’t be forced.
Trust science!
But Quan Zhisui was still startled.
Because she remembered what Kong Mingze had said days ago—that she and Wei Shixu were alike.
No, no, no! They weren’t!
