Chapter 47: Chapter 47: What Did You Two Talk In The Bathroom?
Actually, the dimensions of reality and fiction cannot simply be categorized by being proactive or not, or by impulsivity.
The Earth is so vast, with so many people in the world. Among them are villains who commit every imaginable evil without benefiting anyone, and saints who sacrifice themselves for others without asking for anything in return. So, it's not strange at all for there to also be a few individuals with odd thought processes who impulsively give themselves away for free.
It can only be said that this fictional world he now finds himself in is, apart from containing many familiar two-dimensional characters, no different from reality.
Some live in abundance, chasing spiritual and material wealth, while others must struggle tirelessly just to survive.
"Hachiman Onii-san... is this okay...?"
Asougi Shion slightly parted her delicate pink lips. Her warm breath brushed against Hikigaya's ear.
She wanted to become a true family member to Hachiman Onii-san, just like Komachi, so she could enjoy his unconditional affection without any concerns.
But now that Hachiman Onii-san wasn't saying a word, she started to worry whether she was being too impulsive and if she might have frightened him.
After all, Hachiman Onii-san hadn't expressed any romantic feelings toward her. All along, she had only heard Komachi talking about him. This time, she even took the initiative to ask Komachi for help in arranging this.
If he really rejected her... she didn't know what she would do...
"Shion, are you absolutely sure about this?"
After a moment of silence, Hikigaya wrapped an arm around Asougi Shion, who had been kneeling behind him washing his hair. He turned her to sit sideways on his lap, held her slender waist, and gazed into her delicate, rosy face. His voice softened as he spoke.
"You must have noticed by now that I'm not someone who's particularly faithful. I can't promise to love only you."
Before, he hadn't thought about making a move on Asougi Shion. But now that she had willingly approached him, he wouldn't refuse.
Asougi Shion was pretty and adorable, an outstanding student with commendable cooking skills. If she had any flaws, it would be her reserved nature and dislike for interacting with strangers. However, in his view, even this could be considered a positive trait.
If he disregarded his dream of being a stay-at-home husband, Asougi Shion would indeed make an excellent wife.
But for now, he didn't need to consider whether she matched his house-husband aspirations.
Earning money used to be a significant concern for him, but now it was just a matter of how he chose to go about it.
What truly held him back from immediately accepting Asougi Shion was his awareness of not being a particularly loyal person, making him less than an ideal match for her.
His neighbors from childhood, the Kaede and Suzu twin sisters, were temporarily set aside due to their overly familiar relationship, and he hadn't found the right moment to clarify things and establish a romantic relationship with them.
However, at school, he was already entangled with several beautiful girls.
The Elven Princess had been part of a mutual aid arrangement, but he didn't plan to end things there.
The simple-minded Saki Hayase, who only saw him as a friend, was someone he wouldn't let go.
The self-sacrificing gyaru trio, along with the persuaded Yumiko Miura, were also not people he intended to abandon.
These were all things he felt Shion needed to be aware of.
After all, unlike the oblivious Saki Hayase who accidentally got involved with him, Asougi Shion sought to become part of his family with clear intentions.
"I know... Hachiman Onii-san is probably far more popular than I imagined... But as long as you truly treat me as family, that's enough..."
[T/N: To my readers, it is strictly advised to take it as a fiction. Don't develop unrealistic aspirations from this piece of fiction. 😂]
Asougi Shion wrapped her arms tightly around Hikigaya's neck. Avoiding direct eye contact, she rested her head on his shoulder and whispered softly into his ear.
'Hachiman Onii-san is so amazing, so beloved by other girls.'
'There is a high chance he might never marry me.'
'But does that even matter?'
'My parents had once been deeply in love, yet even they had ended up like that.'
'Since marriage can't guarantee anything, what difference does it make whether or not I could marry Hachiman Onii-san?'
She only wanted a place to belong, a truly warm family.
When she wasn't yet a member of the Hikigaya family and was merely Komachi's classmate, she had already felt Hachiman Onii-san's care. If she truly became part of his family, she would undoubtedly receive unconditional affection, just like Komachi...
"Shion... I won't make too many promises, but I assure you this: whatever Komachi has at home, you'll have too."
Sensing Asougi Shion's humble yearning after the upheavals in her family, Hikigaya no longer tried to dissuade her. He hugged her soft, delicate body and gently kissed her smooth, supple cheek.
Shion didn't seek fame or fortune; she only wanted a warm home. What more could he say?
He believed that when Komachi brought Shion to him, she had already prepared herself mentally. Both he and Komachi would treat Shion as a genuine family member.
"Mm, I trust you, Hachiman Onii-san... So, can I truly become part of your family now?"
Having long understood the weight of Komachi's position in Hikigaya's heart, Asougi Shion still felt shy as she looked up at him.
"I already agreed, didn't I? Why are you in such a rush?"
Looking down at the girl clinging tightly to him, Hikigaya saw the shimmering moisture in her eyes, as though about to overflow. He couldn't help but smile wryly, raising his hand to hold hers and convey his feelings through action.
"Mm... Hachiman Onii-san, you promised me..."
Realizing her impatience, Asougi Shion blushed to the roots of her ears under his gaze. Still, she mustered her courage to press herself closer to him, responding firmly to his sentiments.
Even though Hachiman had verbally acknowledged her, she felt uneasy without a solid confirmation, as if all this might dissolve like a dream.
She could hardly wait to become part of his family.
———
Outside the bathroom door.
With black hair and black eyes, a little girl named Komachi, with a single strand of stubborn hair standing up on her head, quietly stood barefoot on the cold floor. Her hands pressed against the edge of the door as she tilted her head to listen closely.
"Shion is amazing... to actually be so bold…"
Komachi was eavesdropping on the sounds coming from inside, imagining what was happening, and secretly marveling at how appearances can be deceiving.
Normally, Shion appeared aloof at school, utterly unresponsive to the many boys who confessed to her, yet now, she was taking the initiative with her older brother.
Of course, Komachi didn't actually know what the two were doing inside the bathroom. Though the soundproofing wasn't great, the constant noise of running water made it difficult to make out the details. She could only catch vague snippets of conversation now and then.
From what she could barely hear, inexperienced as she was, she couldn't determine exactly what was going on.
But come on, the people inside were her older brother and her classmate Shion—a man and a woman alone in the bathroom. What else could they possibly be doing?
She had been paying attention during health class and was familiar with the basic knowledge taught there. Plus, she sometimes read romance manga with her Onii-san, so she had a pretty good idea of what bathroom scenes like this usually entailed.
However, wasn't Shion staying in there a little too long?
Komachi took out her phone, glanced at the time, and started mentally calculating how long her brother and Shion had been inside.
She couldn't remember the exact time Shion followed her brother into the bathroom, but she had a rough idea. Based on her estimate, they had been in there for at least 30 minutes to an hour, maybe even longer.
Did it really take that long just to take a bath? Even if you included soaking in the tub, it wouldn't normally take this long, would it?
And besides, the bathtub at home wasn't very big. If they were really soaking together, they'd definitely be squished.
Such a narrow tub… it was barely big enough for one person. For two people to squeeze in together? That would take some serious effort.
When she saw Shion resolutely enter the bathroom wearing nothing but a bath towel to help her Onii-san scrub his back, Komachi had already guessed that their relationship was about to take a big leap forward.
But she hadn't expected things to progress so quickly.
'Could they really have gone all the way already?'
'Shion is just too bold, isn't she?'
As time passed, Komachi continued listening to the faint sounds mixed with the splashing of water, her face growing increasingly flushed as her imagination ran wild.
Maybe she should start thinking about how to address Shion in the future.
Suddenly, Komachi noticed the noises from inside the bathroom had stopped. Even the sound of the showerhead spraying water was gone.
She was startled, quickly tiptoeing away from the bathroom door and running upstairs to her room. Once inside, she slammed the door shut, locked it, and slid to the floor, her back against the door. Breathing heavily, she patted her chest in relief.
There was no way she was staying in the living room. It'd be way too awkward if her brother came out holding Shion and she had to see that.
She remembered Shion hadn't brought a change of clothes with her and had gone into the bathroom wearing only a towel.
So... had Shion officially become her sister-in-law?
Hmm... she'd better start thinking about how to interact with Shion from now on, as well as with Kaede and Suzu from next door.
Honestly, since their neighbors were twin beauties she'd grown up with, she'd always harbored the dream of her brother ending up with both of them. But after all this time, neither Kaede nor Suzu's relationship with her brother had progressed much, so she'd gradually given up on that unrealistic fantasy.
Still, her brother and Kaede got along pretty well. But now that her classmate Shion had swooped in, things might get a bit tricky for her…
"Komachi…"
"Komachi…"
After a while, Komachi suddenly heard Shion's voice outside her door. Startled, she quickly got up from the floor.
'What is going on? Why is Shion here at this time?'
'If Shion should be going somewhere, it should've been to nii-san's room, right?'
Swallowing nervously, Komachi slowly opened the door just a crack to peek outside.
There was only one person outside.
Wearing a white bath towel, her black, shoulder-length hair hanging down, and her cool, delicate face, it was none other than her classmate, the long-haired beauty, Asougi Shion.
But the gloomy look she'd had over the past few days was completely gone. Now, she looked radiant, her cheeks flushed as she lowered her head shyly. She spoke softly.
"Um… Komachi, could you please open the door? I need to change clothes…"
Shion's clothes—aside from the ones being washed and hung out to dry—were all in Komachi's room.
Seeing only Shion outside, Komachi let out a sigh of relief and quickly pulled her into the room, locking the door behind them,"Nii-san isn't here? That's good, that's good."
Hearing Komachi mention Hikigaya, Shion's face turned even redder. She softly explained,"Onii-san went back to his room. I'll head over later."
She knew there was no way Komachi wouldn't notice what had happened in the bathroom, given how long they'd been in there, especially since she hadn't tried to hide it from Komachi in the first place. She'd even told Komachi before going in.
"Onii-san? So, Shion, are you planning to move into his room tonight? Just be careful not to make too much noise, or others might hear~"
Komachi had been feeling shy earlier, but seeing how embarrassed Shion was made her bolder. She leaned close to Shion's ear and teased her with a cheeky smile.
It seemed the courage Shion had shown when she boldly entered the bathroom in just a towel was now completely gone. Now she was all shy.
"No, I'm not moving in… Onii-san said I should stay in your room for now… I also think it's better this way since it'd look bad if Kaede or Suzu from next door saw me in his room in the morning…"
Shion lowered her head even more as she quietly explained.
The neighbors, Kaede and Suzu, often came over in the mornings to wake Hachiman up. If they saw her in his room, how would she explain that?
Now that she'd calmed down, she was feeling too shy to face Hachiman.
Although her decision hadn't been made impulsively—she'd thought it through before deciding to take this approach to integrate into the Hikigaya family and truly become part of it alongside Komachi and Hachiman—her usual personality had resurfaced now that things were calmer.
To outsiders, she appeared like an aloof, unapproachable beauty, but in reality, she was just a socially awkward, ordinary girl.
"Shion, are you saying you're okay with Onii-san continuing to interact with Kaede and the others?"
Komachi was taken aback by Shion's mention of Kaede, her eyes widening in disbelief.
Was Shion actually stepping aside for Kaede and the others? That didn't seem like the behavior of someone who had just made a significant breakthrough with her brother. Normally, she'd be declaring her territory and keeping other girls away from him, wouldn't she?
As her brother's sister, Komachi was naturally on his side. Even if he was a bit of a flirt, she'd still support him.
But Shion and her brother weren't even that close yet. How was she already so tolerant of him?
What kind of magic had her brother used to make Shion so obedient and sweet?
"Mm… Onii-san said that from now on, I'm family just like you are… And since we're all family, I don't want to make things difficult for him…"
Shion nodded. If it weren't for Hachiman, she might've been homeless. She didn't want to ask for more than what she already had.
She just hoped Hachiman would treat her as well as he treated Komachi in the future, even if it wasn't exactly the same.
Having experienced the pain of a broken family, she didn't want to go through that again…
"Shion, you're so good to my brother… Tell me, what did you and Onii-san talk about in the bathroom? Why were you in there so long?"
Komachi was astonished, grabbing Shion and pulling her to sit on the bed, staring intently at her.
She couldn't wait to find out why Shion was so kind and indulgent toward her brother.
She never imagined she'd have such a generous sister-in-law. Her judgment was spot on.
Good thing she'd brought Shion into the house. She'd have to make her brother properly thank her later. [T/N: He better do that... We are all here burning from jealousy... Damn]
