Chapter 31: Chapter 32:Interlude 2.
The cold, dry, inhuman winds of the Peaks of the Giants, which seem to wish to separate skin from flesh, blow brutally and ceaselessly over the high mountains.
On the high peaks here, the light of the Golden Tree barely manages to reach, making everything have a vivid lack of color.
There is only white, more white and much more white, that is the main color, secondary, tertiary... Well, you get the picture.
"Sister, you have finished considering my words."
Under the shelter of a rudimentarily rebuilt church, but functioning for its present purpose, are two women.
The first and being the current speaker, one manages to see a woman leaning against a wolf. She wears silver chain mail with a dark cloak over the top, wears her hair loose and keeps a serious face.
She is Latenna, an albinoid and faithful follower of the Lord of the Circle. She is not here on a mere whim, but is on an important mission.
"Do you understand what you are asking me to do, Latenna?"
Tall, though perhaps that word is an understatement, as the albinautic standing in front of Latenna and with whom she speaks is easily twice her size.
"I truly understand sister, I too thought that the only salvation for us lay in the Hieratic Tree."
Noticing that the large woman is still listening to her, Latenna continues with her words.
"But you should be able to notice the changes. Lord Miquella has been abducted, the deformed beasts of Caelid have made their way here, plus a war is looming on the horizon."
His opinion has a good point, the Giant's Peaks area is a great powder keg that could explode at any moment.
Be it the impending war between the Demigods such as Malenia and Mohg, the corruption the fire monks are suffering at the hands of the god of giants, the disappearance of the undead and the arrival of the Caelid beasts.
"I have no such blind belief, but I'm still here for us, Latenna, remember? I am with my child."
"All the more reason sister, here you are in danger and the future of our race with you."
Being exaggerated is not part of Latenna's abilities, but what she just said is the truth.
The Albinautic species cannot be born naturally, as they are an artificial species created by the Nox, all in their experiments to create their own Lord.
Nothing went right, causing the first generation to have the flaw of not being able to use their legs, as well as being infertile and the male variant being much weaker than the female.
"You were always a determined person, more so now that you're doing something wholeheartedly... Fine, but you must get the majority to support your idea."
"But, sister..."
"You must understand, even though I am the leader, it is only because of my abilities and we have always decided by majority on matters."
Gentleness was not lacking in the huge woman's words, but she made it clear that there was no other alternative and that if she wanted to fulfill her wishes, Latenna must convince the majority of the Albinautics.
"Thank you for listening to me, sister."
"Latenna... I am not the only one who will listen to you, you are our hero and the one who saved us from extinction."
"Perhaps you mean..."
Perhaps noticing the hidden message between the words, though perhaps the sudden change in atmosphere alerted her, Latenna takes on a rather serious face.
"Think carefully."
"I will never do anything against our kind."
"I know that, Latenna."
Finished speaking between them, Latenna mounted on the wolf with magical delicacy and then left for the outside of the church.
...Elsewhere...
The city of Ordina, also called the liturgical city, is currently under siege, under the monstrosities coming from Caelid.
But strangely there is no damage to its beautiful, pure, white facade, one might even say it is a white lotus in an ever-expanding sea of red blood.
That "Sea of Red" really was chunks of deformed bodies, blood staining the snow and flesh brutally crushed by a greater force.
"Faster, more accurate, stronger..."
Moving with a swiftness clearly beyond human abilities, a red-haired figure mimicking the sea of blood leapt into the air and began to wave his katana.
It was unbelievable, any deformed being coming from Caelid, be it the large dogs or the huge crows, were torn apart and mutilated by the young woman wearing a golden helmet.
"It's still not enough, I haven't managed to improve."
*roar*
"Silence!"
Slashing with her katana forward, in an expansive radius like an inverted triangle, everything more than 200 meters in front of her is divided by her slash.
No matter if it was flesh, bone or anything else, in front of the young woman's slashes, they were mere minor matters to deal with.
"Your majesty, we have managed to repel this wave."
Appearing from the sea of corpses, his body painted with the blood of the beasts, a beast-man makes his appearance.
It is one of the leaders of Elphael under Malenia's command, he carries a huge axe stained in blood and easily exceeds two meters in height.
"So it has been confirmed that there are more on the way... Well, clean up those who are still alive."
"At your command."
Ignoring the brief bow on the part of the giant demi-human, as she seems to be thinking of something, Malenia sets off towards the city.
The treads of Malenia bare feet press into the red snow, causing it to gush beast blood upwards and stain her white feet red.
"Thank you for helping your majesty, without you I would not be able to confirm my guesses."
"You can drop the label Loretta, you know I'm not interested in those honorifics."
Mentioning her discomfort with the way he addresses her, Malenia still doesn't lose her regal and confident bearing.
"I really understand her, but that's what we need right now. Please, I beg you to understand."
Loretta seems to understand Malenia's difficulties, all thanks to the fact that they are both actually generals, not leaders made to lead the masses of the people.
Right now and at this instant, Malenia has ceased to be "Miquella's Sword" and must adapt to the role of being a leader for them all.
The same has happened to Loretta, who in her eagerness to help the Albinautics who had no place in the Midlands, gave up being a follower of the Caria and took the lead.
"I can understand that, Loretta. Now what have the results been?"
"As expected, those creatures were drawn to the targets. They can sense your blood, though perhaps it is your power that draws them."
Grimacing slightly at Loretta's words, from around Malenia a red flower grows, though she quickly cuts them off with a motion.
"Nasty creatures... I had considered that by parting with my great rune... Damn."
The red flowers became more and more, no matter how many she eliminated with her katana, they came back out, just like mushrooms after rain.
It was obvious that this is a reaction to Malenia's unstable emotions, who doesn't seem to like anything remotely connected to scarlet rot at all.
