I Can't Escape This BL Story

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Strategic Moves

The excitement of the wyvern ride had long since worn off as Adrien made his way back to his room. The adventure had left him feeling physically drained, but his mind remained sharp, constantly analyzing the next steps in the complex game that was his life. As he entered his room, he sank into the chair by the desk, the weight of the day settling on his shoulders.

He looked toward the window, the evening sky bathed in hues of deep purple and orange. The soft sounds of the night drifted in from the courtyard below, but his thoughts were far from peaceful. There was still so much to do, so many problems to solve.

"Damian," he called out, his voice carrying through the empty room.

A few moments later, Damian appeared at the door, his usual calm demeanor in place. "Your Highness, is there anything you require?"

Adrien turned toward him, his expression serious. "Release the assassin that was captured. Let her go."

Damian's brows furrowed in surprise. "Your Highness, are you certain? The assassin could still be a threat."

Adrien waved his hand dismissively. "She will be sending a message to her employer on my behalf. I have no doubt she'll deliver it. Let her go."

Damian hesitated for a moment, clearly confused, but then gave a slight bow. "If that is your wish, I will obey." He turned to leave, but paused again. "If I may ask, why let her go? Could we not gather more information?"

Adrien's gaze hardened. "I don't need to know more than what she already carries. Besides, it's a message I'd rather send myself—one that will set things in motion."

With that, Damian nodded and left, the heavy door closing behind him.

Adrien sat back in his chair, letting out a deep breath. As the night pressed on, he retrieved his journal from a drawer in the desk. The leather-bound book was filled with notes, ideas, and sketches of events yet to come. Tonight, he would focus on the next major challenge—one that had been looming over the kingdom for months.

He flipped through the pages until he reached a section dedicated to the southern province.

*The Famine of the Southern Province,* he thought. *It's only a matter of time before it becomes a full-scale crisis.*

According to his notes, the famine would begin in three months. A mysterious blight would ravage crops in the southern region, making food scarce. The surrounding nations, ever eager to capitalize on any weakness, would raise prices for foodstuff, creating an economic burden. The kingdom's response, or lack thereof, could provoke internal unrest. Some nobles were already causing small riots to take advantage of the situation, which had resulted in the deaths of several knights—weakening the kingdom's military.

Adrien tapped his pen against the desk, his mind racing. *Should I prepare for the famine by increasing food supplies now, or should I go straight to the source of the blight and root out the cause?*

He leaned back, the weight of the decision pressing on him. Both paths had their merits. If he stocked up on food, the kingdom would be prepared for the worst, but it would also be a temporary solution. He needed something more sustainable, something that would address the problem at its core.

*The blight… I need to deal with that directly,* he decided. *But I'll need to stock up on supplies just in case things get worse before I can fix it.*

Adrien scribbled down his plan in his journal, detailing the steps he would need to take over the next two months. He would visit the southern province in two months' time to investigate the cause of the blight firsthand. The problem, however, was that in the next month, he would have to return to school.

His fingers drummed lightly on the desk as he thought about how to handle the situation. *How do I leave school for the southern province? How do I convince Father to use the treasury funds to help when the famine hasn't even started yet?*

Adrien let out a sigh, rubbing his temples. His father was always cautious with the kingdom's funds, and without a visible crisis, it would be difficult to convince him. But Adrien was determined—he had to act fast. He had no time to wait until the famine had already spread. If he could get the money from the treasury now, he could ensure that the kingdom was ready when the crisis struck.

*I'll have to play the long game,* he thought. *The key is convincing Father that investing in the southern province now will prevent far greater costs down the line.*

The night stretched on as Adrien continued to plan, his thoughts consumed by the future. Tomorrow, he would start preparing the first steps for the visit to the southern province. But for tonight, his journal was the only companion he needed—its pages a reflection of the world he would soon shape.

As he closed the book, he made a final note: *Make preparations for the southern province. Stock up on food. Investigate the blight. Convince Father. Don't waste time.*

With that, he blew out the candle beside him and sank into his bed, ready to face the challenges of tomorrow.
