Chapter 146: Valley of the Gods (End)
Sure enough, with the remaining leaders maintaining order, the chaos at the port subsided. Around 500 survivors were organized onto seven nearby naval warships.
Once everyone was aboard, Charlotte raised his hand and commanded, "Weigh anchor!"
The ships began leaving the port, moving one after another. However, they did not sail away immediately.
Charlotte turned back to look at the center of the Valley of the Gods. His eyes narrowed as he observed the raging explosions in the distance.
Then, to everyone's horror, the island itself began to tremble violently.
"What's happening?" someone exclaimed as panic spread among the naval soldiers and rescued survivors.
Everyone watched as the island cracked down the middle. The fissures spread outward, causing portions of the port to collapse into the sea. The destruction was spreading rapidly toward the center of the island.
Charlotte's expression darkened. He already knew what this meant. The battle at the heart of the Valley of the Gods had ended. Rocks D. Xebec had failed.
Inside the Valley of the Gods, Rocks stood at the edge of a deep abyss, clutching the wound on his chest from the combined blows of Roger and Garp.
"You… You should be called Brother D. Roger! I never thought I'd be defeated by two people from the D clan. Wahahahaha!"
His laughter was tinged with loneliness and unwillingness.
"But even if I fall, the will of D will continue to challenge this world! Wahahahaha!"
With that, Rocks closed his eyes and let himself fall into the abyss.
At the port, Whitebeard, the Golden Lion, Charlotte Linlin, and Charlotte stood silently on their respective ships, watching the destruction unfold at the center of the Valley of the Gods.
The end of an era was upon them.
At the site of the final battle, Roger and Garp stood side by side, breathing heavily. Both were bloodied and bruised, their clothes torn. Yet they remained standing, their gazes fixed on the spot where Rocks had vanished.
"Roger! The island is collapsing! We need to leave now!" Rayleigh's voice called from a hillside. Behind him stood the rest of Roger's pirate crew.
Roger turned to Garp with a grin, despite his battered state. "Hahahaha! Garp! Thanks to you, we pulled it off!"
"Shut up, Roger! I'm a Marine—I don't need your thanks!" Garp barked angrily, though his tone lacked bite.
Roger simply laughed again, adjusted his straw hat, and leapt toward his crew. "See you next time, Garp!"
"You bastard, Roger! I swear I'll catch you one day!" Garp roared as he watched Roger's retreating figure.
The ground beneath him trembled more violently. Garp glanced at the abyss, then back at the ruins. His gaze landed on the battered and unconscious form of Jaygolucia Satan, one of the Five Elders.
Garp hesitated for a moment before sighing. He hoisted Satan onto his shoulders and used Moon Step to head for the port.
At Roger's ship, as the Roger Pirates prepared to leave, Roger noticed Rayleigh and Jabba carrying two young children.
"Eh? Rayleigh, Jabba, where'd you pick those kids up?"
Rayleigh smiled wryly. "Found them in the ruins. They were crying their lungs out, so we decided to bring them along."
Roger tilted his head, studying the children. One had bright red hair, and the other had a red nose. After a moment, Roger broke into a grin.
"Hahahaha! From now on, you're part of the crew!" He picked up the two children and declared, "You'll be called Shanks and Buggy!"
The crew cheered, and the mood lightened. "Captain! Let's throw a party to welcome our new companions!"
Roger laughed heartily. "Aye, young men! Let's have a party!"
The Roger Pirates' ship set sail, leaving the Valley of the Gods behind.
Back at the port, Garp returned with Satan, only to find the remaining naval soldiers and survivors waiting anxiously.
"It's Vice Admiral Garp! Vice Admiral Garp!" someone shouted, and the group erupted into relieved cheers.
Tears streamed down the faces of battle-weary marines. After two days and nights of relentless fighting, witnessing the deaths of comrades, Garp's appearance was like a beacon of hope.
Garp frowned as he surveyed the survivors. "Are you the only ones left?"
"Yes, sir!" a Marine captain sobbed. "The rest… They're all gone. Only we survived!"
Garp clenched his fists but kept his voice calm. "Let's go. I'll take you all home."
The remaining soldiers and survivors boarded the naval ships, leaving the Valley of the Gods behind.
As the ships sailed away, the Valley of the Gods continued to collapse. A deep, inexplicable roar echoed from its center, and a massive shadow shot into the sky before vanishing.
The once-mighty island sank into the sea, erased from the map. Decades later, only a select few would remember that an island called the Valley of the Gods had ever existed—a place where a hegemon of the era had met his end.
Whitebeard sailed alone on a small boat, thinking about the children he had adopted. For the first time, he felt truly free.
The Golden Lion flew through the air with his fleet, his ambitions reigniting. He resolved to inherit Rocks' will and conquer the world.
Charlotte Linlin left with Kaido, her heart set on creating her own empire.
The Valley of the Gods had disappeared, but its legacy would ripple through history. The era of Rocks D. Xebec had ended, but a new era was about to begin.
