Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Alone, I Surround You All!

"Asako, do you have any ideas?" Uchiha Hayato turned to Uzumaki Asako. With the enemy advancing, they needed to determine the number of foes to devise a countermeasure.

Asako shook her head slightly. "Among the attacking ninjas, some are definitely from Kirigakure. They're using the Hidden Mist Technique to conceal themselves."

"It's natural for fog to form over the sea, so no one saw it as a sign of an impending attack. As for whether there are ninjas from other villages, we don't know."

"Wait, you don't even know who the enemy is?" Hayato looked surprised, finding it hard to believe. Knowing the enemy was crucial, no matter the situation.

Konoha wouldn't attack its allies. Among the remaining villages, each ninja group had distinct characteristics, especially Kirigakure.

"Hayato, don't you know?" Kushina explained. "The Land of Whirlpools was established by the Uzumaki clan. The only people on the island are our ninjas and the civilians under our protection. Because of our sealing techniques and fiery tempers, other nations have always seen us as a threat. It's a miracle we've survived on this island for so long."

Hayato glanced at Asako, whose face was flushed red, and suddenly understood. He realized the similarity to the Uchiha clan.

Not everyone in the clan was a ninja—there were also civilians living ordinary lives. Even at its peak, the Uchiha clan only numbered around a thousand. No matter how strong the Uzumaki clan was, living isolated on an island limited their power.

"I need to gather intelligence on the enemy as soon as possible," Hayato muttered.

Kirigakure ninjas were proficient in Water Release, but Lightning Chakra Mode could counter them effectively. The problem was determining where the other enemies came from.

"We do know their numbers—about a hundred. Most of them are Genin, with fewer Chūnin. But there's a strong chakra presence among them, and it feels dangerous."

"Lord Aso, when will we attack the barrier?" a bearded, bespectacled ninja asked the man beside him, his tone tinged with anxiety.

"Ask Nakayoshi. He has the answer."

The bespectacled ninja cast a jealous glance at a younger man performing sensory ninjutsu. How does someone so young already command such importance? When will I catch up to these geniuses?

"Lord Harusame, two days ago, we spotted an Uzumaki girl heading to Konoha. If she brings reinforcements, the barrier around Uzushiogakure will activate, and we can begin the attack," Nakayoshi said confidently, his sensory ninjutsu still active.

If the plan went smoothly, Uzushiogakure would fall, and the next step would depend on Kumogakure's cooperation.

"Once you gain the Uzumaki sealing techniques, you'll have better control over the Eight-Tails' power," said A towards B, his tone brimming with anticipation.

"I hope so," B replied. From a young age, he had been chosen as the Eight-Tails' Jinchūriki. Though he had mastered some of the beast's power through training, an ever-growing emptiness gnawed at his heart.

"A, you need to watch out for Kirigakure's people. They may be our allies now, but who knows if they'll betray us later? After all, you're the next Raikage," B warned.

A laughed confidently. "Let them try. I'll show them what real Lightning Release looks like."

"Don't get complacent," Tutai cautioned with a frown.

Hayato's mind raced with ideas, each discarded in turn. Rescuing Uzushiogakure seemed straightforward, but the difficulty was immeasurable.

"The Third Hokage should send reinforcements. I just need to buy time until they arrive. Konoha isn't far from Uzushiogakure. Unless Kirigakure launches a full-scale attack, we have little to fear."

Hayato looked at the faint red barrier surrounding the village. It hadn't been breached yet, but time wasn't on their side. The Uzumaki couldn't stay hidden forever.

"If I can't think of a solution, I'll act instead."

His summoning contract with Infernape might prove useful, and with plenty of restorative items, he had contingencies if things went south.

"Kushina, Asako, find a way into Uzushiogakure. I'll distract the enemy outside. Once they're disoriented, coordinate with the Uzumaki ninja to strike with me," Hayato laid out his plan.

"That's too dangerous!" Kushina protested, her face tense with worry. His strategy sounded like a suicide mission, and she couldn't bear to let him act alone.

Asako was equally stunned. She knew Hayato was strong, but facing so many enemies alone was too risky.

Under their shocked gazes, Hayato's feet slowly left the ground, and his body began to hover in the air.

"This is a secret technique I've been training," Hayato explained calmly. "Why else would I spend all that time mastering rare ninjutsu in the underground base?"

"I'm training to change the ninja world, after all."

Hayato hadn't forgotten his goal. To change the world, he had to survive, so mastering survival skills was non-negotiable.

"I'm not walking to my death," he said with a small smile, though his words were blunt. "I understand your feelings, but your strength isn't enough yet. If you stay, I'll have to protect you."

Kushina's heart ached. For the first time, she desperately wished for more power.

"Don't make me worry, okay?" Hayato pulled out a signal flare. "And I do have a plan. Once I launch this flare, the enemy will be momentarily disoriented. That's your chance to return to Uzushiogakure."

Kushina gave Hayato a long, hard look before biting her lip and slipping into the shadows with Asako, heading toward the village.

Hayato patted his Infernape's shoulder.

"Ready, Blaze? Next, we surround them all!"
