Chapter 262: Zhnag Bo's last farewell to his fans____2
The air was buzzing with anticipation in the large stadium. It was amazing that on a such a cold day, all these people had come out and were filled with vibrating energy. The grand stage stood tall, adorned with bright lights. From the roof, stars shimmered, and screens around projected different images of Zhang Bo at different ages and stages of his career.
Alix had not been nervous before, but as she sat on that stool, in front of the piano and slowly was elevated upwards onto the stage, her heart couldn't help quickening it's beating. Finally, it started to hit her that she was about to play in front of a large crowd.
"Do you need a nerve calming pill?" The system asked her.
"I will be fine." she answered. "Maybe a sweat blocker."
She had been stuffed into a long white sleeveless sparkly dress. It was beautiful, no doubt but Alix felt like she was drenching it in sweat. She was even worried that she might lift her hands to play the piano and the sweat from her underarms would drip like a waterfall. She would end up becoming a meme or something. Maybe people would come up with funny names for her like sweatzilla.
The system elf couldn't help laughing at her creativity. "There goes your imagination, running wild like a horse as always."
"Oh God, this was a terrible idea." she moaned.
A part of her wanted to turn back the time and reject Yura when she made this request.
"Too late." The system told her.
It was too late alright because the platform stopped moving and suddenly she was there on the stage. All those thousands of eyes were staring at her.
"Hey, at least it's sort of dark." the system consoled her.
Where she was, the spotlight was a little dim and the light which was shining on her was soft. The bright light was going to be saved for the moment when the man of the night was revealed.
A chill passed through her and suddenly, it hit her that it was cold. She had rejected the fluffy white coat which Yura suggested she wear over her dress. Apparently that had been the wrong choice. If she could, she would merge with the dragon for its warmth but the virtual gaming world was not yet open and Long was in there. The countdown had ended but it was still closed. She would be worried if the system had not assured her that all was okay.
"You should start playing now." The system reminded her.
She blinked and put her hands on the piano keys. She took a deep breath and put herself in player mode.
"Wait, what am I playing?"
On the virtual screen, the system elf created an arrow and stabbed itself in the heart then fell backwards dramatically. The host was really an idiot. Her mind was good at retaining nonsense but important things faded quickly.
Alix rolled her eyes. The silly system was more of an idiot than she was. Her fingers and her mind connected and she started playing a slow melody, introducing the crowd to Chan Ki's newest original song, grateful for your love.
As the notes reverberated through her chest, a hauntingly beautiful voice joined in. On the opposite end of the stage, under a soft spotlight like her, Chan Ki had started singing. It was easier then for Alix to forget all about the crowd and she immersed herself in playing the piano.
In the VIP section, the entire Zhang family had come out to support Zhang Bo. Close friends had also come and the Tai's too, as many of them. They were not there for Zhang Bo but for Alix.
While she performed, other than Caishen, they were the ones with the biggest smiles on their faces, except for grandma Tai who was frowning.
Her husband noticed and he asked her, "What's wrong?"
"She must be cold." grandma Tai replied. "The dress is too open. The singer is wearing a thick coat but our granddaughter is not. Who is making such careless arrangements?"
Grandpa Tai looked at the screen which brought an up close image of Alix.
"She is smiling so maybe it's not so bad. We will send a jacket to her after the performance is over." he replied. Then he sent a message in the family chat group telling the grandsons to send a jacket, gloves and a hat to their sister after the performance.
Auntie Mo was one of the first people to see the text and then she frowned like grandma Tai and even sent an accusing glance in Caishen's direction as if he was the one responsible for Alix being on stage in such cold weather without a jacket.
Zhang Caishen, meanwhile was also frowning. It was not because Alix was not wearing a jacket but because Rongyan who was sitting directly behind him had leaned forward and whispered, "So that's your step mother. How could she shamelessly come for your brother's fan concert?"
Indeed, Caishen thought it was shameless for Na Na to just show here. This was an event planned by his mother's company. It was his brother's event, something special and emotional for him as he was bidding goodbye to the thing he loved the most. Why in the world Na Na and Wang Yong had come, he couldn't fathom. He hoped that Zhang Bo did not notice them.
"She is not my stepmother." Caishen bit out in response.
He did not appreciate Rongyan referring to Na Na in that way. His parents were not yet divorced.
Rongyan replied, "Then what is she, a concubine or second wife? Whatever she is, how can she walk around freely as if we are still living in ancient days when men could have two to four wives."
Du Fuzi was sitting next to Rongyan and he dragged their friend back to sit properly.
He whispered furiously to Rongyan. "Quit it. Don't you see that he doesn't want to talk about it? Don't ruin the event for him?"
Caishen had invited them because they were close to Zhang Bo but also because his wife would be accompanying some of the singers during their performances. He was proud of her, it was her first public appearance as a performer. Talking about anything other than Zhang Bo or Alix tonight was not allowed.
The family dynamics at this concert did not there because at the back of the VIP area, Lin Billi was also present. She was not alone because the entire Lin family too had come.
While Lin Qianfan looked proud and smug as if he had contributed somehow to Alix's talent or performance, Jing Hee looked terrified.
Billi's eyes were red and she was angry. Her fists were clenched tightly.
"That was supposed to be me up there." she mumbled to herself.
She was the best pianist signed under Light entertainment. Yura should have come to her if they needed a piano player. Alix wasn't even her artiste so why choose her? Is it because she was her daughter-in-law?
Lin Billi sneered harshly and clenched her hand so tightly that one of the artificial nails on her fingers snapped. In her mind, she plotted. Alix could not be allowed to thrive.
