Toma: Reincarnated as the Knight's Adopted Son

chapter 44 - Hilde’s Walk

Chapter 44: Hilde’s Walk
■■■■■■■■■■

Sebas informed me that Grandfather had finished taking all the Stomach Purge tablets, and I confirmed through information conversion that his stomach cancer was indeed cured! That’s a relief.
Grandmother was also recovering steadily and could now eat solid foods as well as liquids.
“Sebas!”

“Yes, Lord Toma?”
“Could you make this for me?” I handed Sebas a piece of paper.
“What’s this? It’s quite thin paper…”

No, I didn’t mean for him to make paper. I wanted him to make what’s drawn on the paper.
“Ah, I see… Leave it to me. I’ll have it made right away.”
“Thank you.”

Soon, I’d have to return to Ashud Territory. But before that, I needed to make a request to Grandfather. With everything that had happened, I hadn’t had the chance to bring it up.
“Grandfather, it’s Toma. May I come in?”
“Of course!”

As I entered his room, Grandfather moved from his desk, where he’d been working on some documents, to a nearby sofa.
“I came to ask a favor of you, Grandfather.”
“Ask anything. I’ll make sure it’s done!”

His enthusiastic response made me hesitate slightly before making my request.
“Because of the blessing of Lord Deuro, Grandmother has been able to rise from her bed, and my illness is also cured! Let’s build a temple dedicated solely to Lord Deuro!”
What I’d asked was simply for statues of Lord Deuro to be placed around Axel Territory, but Grandfather went all in and suggested constructing an entire temple.

“No, we don’t need a temple. I’d prefer if statues of Lord Deuro could be placed in public places where people often gather or where they’d be easily seen.”
This way, people would come to know Lord Deuro’s name, and it would be easier to attract believers. It would be like a small roadside shrine—if people passing by could offer a quick prayer, that would be enough.
First, we need to increase awareness. Gradually, we’ll guide their faith toward Lord Deuro. That’s the strategy.
“Very well. I’ll have statues of Lord Deuro crafted and installed in prominent locations.”

“Thanks to Lord Deuro, we’ve been able to produce Horse King sake in our territory. And now, Grandmother is recovering. No amount of gratitude toward Lord Deuro could ever be enough.”
“I am grateful to Lord Deuro as well. From this day forward, the Bayerlein Ducal House will honor him as our patron deity, worshipped by our family for generations to come.”
“Thank you.”

Grandfather acted swiftly. He ordered a hundred statues of Lord Deuro to be crafted by artisans. He even set up an altar within the mansion, officially venerating Lord Deuro as the protector of the Bayerlein family.
In the meantime, what I’d asked Sebas to prepare was completed. I touched it to check its sturdiness.
“This feels great! Thank you, Sebas.”

“Not at all.”
With it in hand, I headed to Grandmother’s room.
Mother and Siegvalt were there, and Grandmother was enjoying a pleasant conversation with them.

“Oh, Toma. You came to see me?”
“Yes. How are you feeling?”
“Very well, thank you.”

“I came to invite you for a walk today, Grandmother.”
“It’s been so long since I went outside… I would love to.”
“Madam, Lord Toma has prepared this for you.”

Sebas presented the wheelchair.
“What is that?”
“If you sit in this, Grandmother, you’ll be able to go outside!”

“Oh my… how wonderful. Diana, could you help me?”
“Yes, Madam.”
Diana, Grandmother’s maid, and Mother carefully helped Grandmother from her bed into the wheelchair.

“Oh, this is quite comfortable.”
I used slime gel for the cushions, so it has a nice, soft resilience.
Diana pushed the wheelchair, Mother held Siegvalt in her arms, and I walked beside Grandmother. Just walking with everyone made my heart feel warm for some reason.

Sebas and the other servants quickly set up a parasol and table for us outside.
“This tea tastes even better than usual. Thank you, Toma.”
Grandmother gazed at the sky, looking deeply moved by her first time outdoors in a long while.

“Hilde!”
“Mother!”
As we were enjoying tea, Grandfather, Lord Alexander, and Father arrived.

“Is it alright for you to be outside?”
“I’m feeling wonderful today.”
Day by day, Grandmother’s condition was improving. Her health was fully restored, and with rehabilitation, she’d be able to walk again. When I explained this, Grandfather started to cry.

“I’m so glad… truly glad, Hilde.”
“Yes. I’ll do my best with this rehabilitation you mentioned.”
“Of course, Hilde. You’ll be able to walk again!”

I explained the rehabilitation techniques to Sebas. It was about time for me to return to Ashud Territory, or things might get a bit complicated.
