Chapter 3: Yuanxin Clinic (3)
What is the scariest thing about the "Mysterious World"?
Not the rules, but the anomalies in the dungeon!
Rules can be understood and predicted to some extent, but anomalies are impossible to guard against because you never know how they might kill you!
The other three players in the clinic were in shock.
They watched as Bai Liang sent the little girl’s head flying with a single blow, their eyes wide as saucers, like bronze bells!
The stream chat froze.
Viewers who had been lazily lying in bed, watching the stream on their phones, suddenly opened their eyes wide and stared at the screen in disbelief.
Even the girl who had been struck was stunned.
Who am I? Where am I? What was I supposed to do?
In her memory, these players should have been terrified of her, not the other way around. At the very least, their faces should have shown panic, if not outright fainting from fear.
But Bai Liang was not only unafraid; he outright slapped her!
She was in shock.
In all her years in the Mysterious World, she had never encountered such a humiliating situation!
[This guy is unbelievable. Not only did he win, but he had the guts to slap an anomaly!]
[He’s the strongest, hands down! Truly fearless!]
[Turns out he’s not just sharp-tongued but also tough as nails!]
[He’s bold, but it seems like this anomaly is getting angry.]
[No matter what happens next, this guy deserves respect for slapping an anomaly!]
The viewers snapped back to reality and began commenting frantically.
Back in the clinic.
The little girl was furious!
Her dead eyes suddenly filled with rage as she glared at Bai Liang, her gaze blazing: “Insect, do you understand what you’ve done?”
“What’s there to understand? I slapped you!” Bai Liang replied with a smirk.
He shrugged and added, “They weren’t kidding when they said anomalies have thick skin.”
His hand ached from the impact.
The girl’s face turned grim. “Aren’t you afraid of death?”
“I’m already dead. What’s so scary about dying again?” Bai Liang said calmly.
He seemed utterly indifferent, as though death meant nothing to him.
The girl froze for a moment, then let out a sinister laugh. “The worst punishment isn’t death. I can make you feel what it’s like to live and suffer more than death.” 𝔯АN𝘰ᛒĘS
She continued staring at Bai Liang, searching for even the faintest trace of fear on his face.
But she was disappointed.
Bai Liang’s expression remained calm, his heart unshaken.
“If you could do that, you would’ve done it already. Why bother saying such things?” he said with a smile, the corners of his lips curling up slightly.
He reached out and patted the little girl’s cheek, his tone mocking. “Stop pretending to be something big. We’re all pawns bound by the rules. Why don’t you focus on treating your illness while I complete my task?”
“Be good and let Uncle treat you.”
[Wow!]
[He really knows how to take control of the situation (lol)]
[Did he just lecture an anomaly about rules and politics?]
[Masterful!]
[It’s true, we’re all pawns in the hands of the rules. Who’s more important, really?]
[Exactly, both anomalies and players were once dead. Why should a player fear an anomaly?]
The chat erupted in laughter as viewers watched Bai Liang’s antics.
When other players enter a dungeon, they usually tremble with anxiety, trying to complete their tasks while filled with fear.
But Bai Liang…
He was casually chatting with an anomaly as if they were equals!
The little girl fell silent for a moment.
Then she asked, “You’re so bold. Is it because you can revive?”
“Of course,” Bai Liang replied confidently.
He nodded without hesitation.
The girl fell silent again.
She had never met someone so straightforward.
[Wait a minute, does that mean he can revive indefinitely?]
[No way. New players in the dungeon can’t have such strong random skills! The fact that he revived once is already strange!]
[I get it now. This streamer is playing a mental game with the anomaly. After all, the anomaly doesn’t know how many times he can revive.]
[Brilliant. I retract my earlier criticism.]
…
The little girl stared deeply at Bai Liang and asked no further questions.
As Bai Liang had said, it was true.
They were all pawns, bound by the rules.
As long as a player didn’t break the rules, she couldn’t act.
She was a terror to the players.
But in the face of the rules, she was nothing as well.
“Now, let’s get back to the original question,” Bai Liang said with a smile. “What’s wrong with you?”
[????]
[So, you’re not giving up on this quest after all?]
[Are you just ignoring the rules?]
[Judging by his attitude, he’s just going wild because he can revive.]
[Honestly, if I had that ability, I’d be even worse.]
[Outsmarting the rules, well done!]
…
The girl’s face turned strange. “Your clinic doesn’t treat children.”
“I know,” Bai Liang nodded. “But I think it’s time we expand our services.”
“Aren’t you shameless?”
“Money can be earned again, but if you lose your conscience, you can’t get it back,” Bai Liang replied with a smile, taking the girl’s hand.
“Come on, let’s get you examined.”
First, he opened her mouth and checked her teeth, then used a stethoscope to listen to her heart.
Amusingly, he heard nothing.
Putting the stethoscope aside, Bai Liang took out a medical chart and jotted something down.
When he was done, he handed it to the girl.
“Go to the nurse for your medication.”
With that, Bai Liang grabbed some alcohol from the counter and sprayed his hands for disinfection.
The little girl silently held her medical chart.
She had broken the rules; she should have killed him.
But he could revive, so it was pointless.
Glancing at Bai Liang, the girl turned and headed toward the medication area.
What a peculiar situation.
It was as if their roles had reversed.
Anomalies were supposed to dominate players.
But with Bai Liang…
The player, instead, dominated the anomaly.
The nurse, trembling, handed the girl her medication.
She didn’t have Bai Liang’s ability to revive.
If she broke the rules, death would be her only outcome.
[Name: Bai Liang]
[Gender: Male]
[Workplace: Yuanxing Clinic]
[Position: Doctor] [Objective: Treat 5 patients]
[Task Progress: 20%]
Looking at his personal information and task progress, Bai Liang couldn’t help but smile.
At this rate, he’d complete the mission and clear the dungeon soon.
Rumor had it that players could receive amazing rewards after clearing a dungeon.
Skills, attribute points, items, and more.
The more dungeons you clear, the stronger you become.
Some powerful players even speculated that one day, players might break free from the rules and return to the real world!
Bai Liang looked forward to that day.
The girl took her medicine and left the clinic.
All the players sighed in relief.
Facing anomalies was an excruciating trial.
That fear of being annihilated at any moment was too much for most to bear.
Except…
The three players exchanged glances and looked at Bai Liang.
As for Bai Liang, he ignored them and remained unbothered.
The clock on the wall ticked steadily as time marched on.
When the hands approached two o’clock, a new patient finally entered the clinic.
“Cough! Doctor… Doctor!”
“Help… help me!”
A frail old man stumbled inside, barely managing to cry out before collapsing with a ‘thud’ onto the floor.
