Chapter 596: The True Identity of Queen Mary (Request for Subscription, Seeking Monthly Tickets)
Facing Queen Mary's request, Chen Yu fell strangely silent, neither agreeing nor refusing.
And just now, having been crowned, and donning the Blood Crown, Jounouchi Hiromi gripped her lance, letting the flags unfurl, prepared for battle.
Previously, she had been unable to secure victory due to the vast difference in strength, but now, leveraging the Primal Matter of the opponent to ascend in rank, Jounouchi Hiromi felt ready for a second round.
Just as Jounouchi Hiromi was ready to fight, even considering summoning her newly-acquired legion with Xiao Lan's power, Chen Yu took out the Human Skin Book and started flipping through it in his hand.
"This Human Skin Book was obtained from Monsieur Gilles de Rais," Chen Yu said, under Queen Mary's excited and anticipatory gaze, without any intention of handing over the book, but rather to state a fact: "However, this Human Skin Book is a trophy Monsieur de Rais obtained during the era he followed the Maid of Orleans against England, during the years 1427 to 1435."
At this point, Chen Yu paused, looking at Queen Mary with a scrutinizing gaze, and asked her, "So who are you? Mary I was born in 1516, a queen from the 16th century couldn't possibly turn her own skin into a book and send it back a hundred years. This book does belong to you, and the Gilded Skull in your hands surely came from the same individual, but that person cannot possibly be Mary Tudor."
Hearing Chen Yu say this, Jounouchi Hiromi's eyes widened with disbelief as she stared at the Queen Mary before them, not expecting that the queen had been lying all along.
"Hahaha! Did I really slip up so early? I thought I had hidden it well!" Following Chen Yu's questioning, Queen Mary...no, the individual posing with the face of Mary Shelley and impersonating Mary Tudor from five hundred years ago, laughed and did not deny Chen Yu's conjecture, instead admitting directly: "That's correct, the Human Skin Book wasn't made of Mary Tudor's skin, after all, she was still a queen, and no one dares to desecrate a queen's body. But I am indeed Mary Tudor, there was no lie about that, Your Excellency the Demigod."
"Mary Tudor might just be one of your reincarnations, but why hide your identity? Even if the name Bloody Mary brings you immense power, enough to approach the level of a demigod, there's no need to hide your true identity, is there? Especially since you've already forsaken that part of your power, yet you still refuse to reveal your true self?" Chen Yu said as he closed the Human Skin Book and held it between his palms, looking towards Queen Mary.
"Do you truly want to know my true identity? Once that name is uttered, even as we stand in the memory of this history, the cause and effect that the name brings will trigger vast disaster, bringing a being that should remain buried in history back to the Human World, and even herald the return of the mythical age. Even so, do you still wish to know my true name?" Queen Mary's expression was incredibly serious as she posed the question to Chen Yu with utmost gravity.
However, facing the severe consequences mentioned by Queen Mary, Chen Yu's face revealed an indifferent expression: "Isn't that the sin your own British People made? What does it have to do with me, a Chinese person? And to be frank, I don't believe a legend that needs the Horcrux Ritual to resurrect could possibly bring about the so-called catastrophe and return of the age of gods just with a name."
Hearing Chen Yu speak so indifferently, a cold smile emerged from the corners of Queen Mary's mouth as if she felt he was ignorant of the gravity of the situation, "If you think the return of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table from the legendary tales of England to the Human World is of no concern, you're very much welcome to utter my name. Though I have been relegated to legend and story, I still believe my name has been passed down."
No sooner had Queen Mary spoken than Chen Yu had guessed her identity. Although he was neither British nor familiar with the history of the United Kingdom, the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table had long spread across the world, becoming universally known.
If it truly was the legendary King Arthur returning with his Knights of the Round Table... what did that have to do with Chen Yu, a Chinese Demigod? Perhaps he could capture these knights, steeped in legend, and transform them into Heroic Spirits to form a brigade of Heroic Spirit Knights?
At this thought, Chen Yu's mind inevitably wandered off track. Heroic Spirits were among the most unique existences in the hierarchy of undead creatures, being undead yet possessing divine attributes. Even based on the different degrees of their legend, some historically renowned heroes could possess undying Divinity.
If it were really King Arthur returning, by capturing him and his knighthood and transforming them all into Heroic Spirits, Chen Yu felt his Undead Legion would finally have a complete structure. Otherwise, for a Necromancer to always roll up his sleeves and enter the fray in person would somewhat lack authenticity.
However, Chen Yu quickly checked such whimsical thoughts and, looking at Queen Mary whose true identity he had guessed, he inquired, "I am curious, who performed the Horcrux Ritual for you? There aren't many who possess the mastery of the mystical arts required for such a feat."
Seeing Chen Yu had guessed her identity, Queen Mary revealed a smile, apparently pleased at the knowledge that there were things even the respected Demigod did not know, "What, His Excellency the Demigod can guess my identity but not who accomplished this deed for me? Who else had such abilities in that era?"
"Oh, it was Merlin, I should have thought of that," Chen Yu feigned surprise as he spoke, although his expression showed he was not truly astonished.
But upon hearing Queen Mary mention Merlin, Chen Yu's brow furrowed slightly and he asked, "Has the Celtic Pantheon truly been eradicated? In the end of King Arthur's legend, the dying king was escorted aboard a ship by three mysterious women headed for Avalon, the final resting place guarded by nine enchantresses from Celtic mythology, including your name.
But since Merlin performed the Horcrux Ritual for you, it would mean that the original goddesses of warfare, justice, fertility, and death from Celtic mythology are already dead, aren't they? No wonder uttering your name would return King Arthur and bring back the age of the gods, that's the underlying reason."
"Indeed, you are worthy of being a Demigod, your guess is not wrong. Because of Arthur's defeat, the Celtic Pantheon lost the bet, and all of our investments in him came to naught, and we paid the price ourselves," Queen Mary's face revealed an expression fraught with painful memories of the past.
