Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Actually, I’m a Clear-Clear Fruit User
Roy hid behind a boulder, using Observation Haki to constantly disrupt Kaido's perception. Kaido knew Roy was nearby, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't pinpoint his exact location.
Watching Kaido go berserk with rage, Roy figured he could have a little more fun toying with him.
"Looks like I hit the nail on the head. Now that I think about it, even though this guy is terrifying in many ways, when it comes to certain things, he really can't compare to Katakuri."
Roy had always liked Katakuri; otherwise, he wouldn't have invited him to join the Whitebeard Pirates.
Even though Luffy's trip to Totto Land was short, Katakuri's character left a solid impression.
But in Wano, the pacing was too hasty. Combined with flashy, blinding visuals, the Beasts Pirates felt diluted. Aside from Kaido becoming Luffy's mentor of sorts, the rest barely left a mark.
Even Kaido, for all his might, was just another ruthless pirate in Roy's eyes, hypocritical, brutal, and far less honorable than he pretended.
When Katakuri found out his sister had interfered in his duel, he wounded himself to make the fight fair for Luffy.
Kaido, when facing Kozuki Oden, showed no hesitation and dealt a devastating blow.
Sure, you could excuse his first strike on Luffy as a fluke. But after the second time? Even Kaido felt ashamed.
Roy decided not to show himself yet, just let Kaido stew in frustration. Keeping him on edge.
Kaido didn't know where he was; he might as well drag this out and let him marinate.
Woosh!
Violent winds tore through Kuri like a doomsday storm.
"If you won't come out, I'll force you out!"
Kaido transformed into his Azure Dragon form and stirred the skies.
"Dragon Twister"
Countless tornadoes descended from the heavens, wreaking havoc across the land. The ground was ripped apart, the skies flashing with lightning as thunder rolled in. Bolts of lightning struck down like judgment.
"Is that...?"
On a mountaintop in Kuri, Ashura Doji looked out. He immediately understood what was happening.
He'd already heard the thunder earlier, now there was no mistaking it.
"Who's fighting that monster?"
Ashura Doji decided to take a look.
"Boss, where are you going?"
"I'm going to check it out."
"But that could be Kaido!"
"I know. I'm just looking, I'm not going to interrupt."
He shook off his underlings and ran with surprising speed toward the battlefield.
Tornadoes tore through the land, and mountains were shredded. Kaido's tail smashed through one peak, his massive claws gripped a boulder, and his lantern-sized eyes scanned the surroundings.
"Come out! How long are you planning to hide?!"
"Right here."
Roy's voice whispered beside him. Kaido spun around, aiming his head toward the sound, and began to charge up flames in his mouth.
"Bolo Breath!"
A torrent of fire incinerated a mountain in an instant, melting everything. Kaido watched the area closely.
But nothing was there.
"Coward! Hiding like a rat! No wonder Newgate left his crew to you, what a disgrace!"
Roy's voice responded calmly, "Well, since you mentioned Newgate, I've got nothing more to say."
Roy casually stepped out from right under Kaido's nose. Kaido was stunned. Roy had been there the whole time.
"You're a Devil Fruit user?!"
Kaido realized he hadn't seen Roy at all; most likely, Roy had a power that cloaked him.
"Yup," Roy nodded.
"What fruit?"
"The Clear-Clear Fruit. It makes me invisible."
"Clear-Clear Fruit?"
Kaido stared at Roy.
"What a dirty power."
"You're jealous?"
"As if I'd be jealous!"
"I can walk into the women's bathhouse without anyone noticing."
"DIE!"
Kaido opened his jaws and fired another Bolo Breath.
"Air Burst!"
Roy didn't dodge; he met the attack head-on, punching straight into the blast and dispersing it.
Ashura Doji arrived just in time to see that. His eyes nearly popped out of his head.
'That monster's attack... got blown away?! Who the hell is that guy?!'
Ashura only dared to peek from a hidden spot; he didn't dare get involved.
Having failed again, Kaido's body erupted in flame.
"Fire Dragon Great Torch!"
He turned into a blazing fire dragon, diving at Roy with terrifying heat.
"Damn, this is hot. These powers are crazy," Roy muttered, dodging quickly. No way he'd take that head-on.
People claimed "it's all about how you use them," but that was bullshit.
Compare the Jacket-Jacket Fruit to the Flame-Flame Fruit?
The latter is miles better than the completely useless former.
The Human-Human Fruit, unless you were an animal, was useless.
Kaido's Fish-Fish Fruit was overpowered, and with the Azure Dragon form, it has everything:
Flight
Lightning
Fire breath
Storm control
Hail
Wind
Thunder and flames, it's literally a divine dragon.
There's never been a Devil Fruit with this wide a range of abilities. Well, except maybe the Nika Fruit. With enough imagination, it can do anything.
Devil Fruits were getting more and more absurd.
Sure, Haki can surpass all things. But even Roger, who had the best Haki in the world, still died of illness. At the end of the day, he was just a man.
Kaido and Big Mom were born monsters. They were the world's protagonists from the start.
At the end of the day, Roy's body was human. The system had granted him the three types of Haki, but his physicality lagged behind.
His training in Haki had toughened him somewhat, but that didn't mean he could recklessly tank Kaido's attacks.
He would die.
It'd be over three years before his next system reward. By then, Buggy might already be Pirate King.
"I really need a fruit that can strengthen my body."
Roy kept dodging. Kaido, engulfed in fire, slammed into him over and over. His entire body was now a living weapon.
Just imagine: a giant snake is already terrifying enough. Now imagine it's a dragon covered in flames. Who the hell would dare touch that?
The air was getting hotter. The rocks that touched Kaido's flames melted instantly.
Kaido circled Roy, constantly applying pressure.
"It's getting way too hot. I can't let this drag on. He really might kill me."
Roy suddenly stopped and looked up at Kaido. Kaido, charging at him again, seemed to sense something.
"Your body... It's weak," Kaido said.
"You noticed? Here's your reward," Roy narrowed his eyes.
A burst of Conqueror's Haki exploded from Roy's brow.
Crack!
A black bolt of Haki thunder struck Kaido in the chest, freezing his enormous body mid-air.
"Conqueror's Haki..."
Kaido's form began shrinking.
Roy's Haki had forced his Devil Fruit power to retract. His dragon form couldn't withstand it.
"Come back."
The dragon's form flickered. His massive body shrank uncontrollably as the Haki suppressed his Devil Fruit powers. As he once said, All the powers in the world are nothing compared to Haki.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't maintain his dragon form.
His transformation unraveled.
And Kaido plummeted from the sky, crashing into the ground below with a deafening boom.
