Chapter 664: The Great Sorcerer - (1)
Felix strolled slowly into the castle.
That girl must be Ariana, Dumbledore's deceased sister, right? He recalled the projection with the Resurrection Stone... But could the Resurrection Stone really have such a powerful effect?
Felix pondered, his eyes capable of seeing the faint glow of souls. In other words, Dumbledore had imbued the memory projection with a trace of soul essence using his own power. Or perhaps, he had shared a part of his own soul, resulting in a situation where they both would suffer if one was harmed?
But one thing was certain, Dumbledore's understanding of the soul far surpassed his own.
His soul's current state was simply terrifying.
Felix had a feeling that Dumbledore could disconnect from reality at any moment, open a portal, and send all the ghosts lurking within Hogwarts Castle away. Just like Helena did back then.
The legend of the Deathly Hallows flowed slowly through his mind. He had learned the names of the Peverell brothers from Luna, and Felix tended to believe that these three individuals were powerful wizards who each pursued a different path of magic, leaving behind three treasures representing their essence.
These treasures contained their unique understanding of magic. Just like Felix's book of magical texts, if discovered by someone in the distant future, they might follow a similar path.
If true, the alchemist's magical prowess would be astonishing, not only delving deep into the knowledge of the soul but also mastering wandlore and alchemy... It was terrifying, but not impossible.
Unfortunately, history had not left behind much information about them. Ah, the passage of time!
As for Dumbledore's "mission," Felix scoffed at it.
...
The next day, the sky was overcast, with dark clouds looming, and young wizards made their way through the castle in the drizzle.
After the first class of the morning, Felix arrived at the staff room, where Professor McGonagall eagerly handed him a newspaper.
"The list of Animagus members has been announced," she said, smiling.
Felix took the newspaper and examined it carefully. It listed the members of the Animagus Society, congratulating the fact that the number of Animagi in this century had reached double digits, and all four of them were students.
In fact, there had been seven registered Animagi in this century, including Rita Skeeter and Sirius Black, making it nine in total when including Peter Pettigrew and the undisclosed James Potter. However, the newspaper deliberately or unintentionally ignored the existence of Peter Pettigrew.
"So soon?"
"It's not that fast, it's been almost a month," McGonagall said with a relaxed smile, smoothing out the wrinkles on her face, "These three students have been making a name for themselves in the Advanced Class—Granger has consistently been at the top, which may not be obvious, but Abbott and Malfoy have been making rapid progress. I also gave Longbottom some additional study notes; he will be taking the Ordinary Wizarding Levels in Transfiguration this year, and I believe he can keep up with the pace."
Felix understood. Draco had recently been feeling quite pleased with himself, what with the significant donation of 5,000 Galleons from the Malfoy family, which had caused quite a stir. His father, Lucius, paved the way with money, and with Lucius's speech at the press conference, he managed to shift the media's attention.
There had already been newspapers (Felix suspected Lucius had discreetly slipped some money) showing interest in the heir to the Malfoy family, and upon closer inspection, they found quite a few things worth reporting: a member of the Anti-Dark Arts League (contributions to the development of the Lumos Solem spell), a rival of Harry Potter and his friends at school (with hints of embellishment), ambitious aspirations (dreams of becoming a healer), and the newly-formed Animagus Society.
Draco was feeling quite pleased with himself, strutting around the school with his chest puffed out.
Felix wondered if his taste had changed recently? Felix thought to himself, but he dared not say it out loud, as this conclusion was drawn from observations of Hermione, who had shown a particular fondness for peas at the dining table recently.
Harry knew that Hermione had been diligently practicing Animagus Transfiguration recently.
At that time, the four successful students spent a weekend practicing Transfiguration and Reversion techniques in Professor McGonagall's office. Afterwards, they were required to devote a certain amount of time each week to practice and reflect on the Transfiguration process.
Harry felt it was similar to the effect of him and Sirius transforming into a large dog and roaming the school grounds during his time at Hogwarts.
But what puzzled him and Ron was that they had never found where Hermione practiced Transfiguration. Her roommates, Lavender and Parvati, were also unaware, as Hermione had never practiced the magic in their dormitory. At this moment, Professor Sprout stepped aside, allowing the students to get a clearer view of the Whomping Willow.
"... The Whomping Willow is a magical species of willow tree that protects those who touch its trunk from attacks by dark creatures. Therefore, treated Whomping Willow materials are widely used in various defensive items. Their wood and leaves can be used to make amulets, protective ornaments, carved warning spells, and so on. Their growth cycle
is slow, and during the sapling stage, the bark is relatively smooth, making them suitable as ornamental plants."
Professor Sprout allowed the students to come closer to observe. Behind her, in addition to a large Whomping Willow with rough bark, there were also two smaller ones planted in pots, lush and adorable.
"You can touch it, it's not dangerous unless you're a dark creature in disguise," she said cheerfully, "But be careful if you encounter them in the wild, as there may be a group of Whomping Willow guardians living in the trees."
Harry reached out and placed his hand on the trunk of the large Whomping Willow. Perhaps because there were no Dementors or Inferi nearby, he didn't feel anything different. The branches of the willow tree rustled, and he looked up, trying to find a fruit or two among the dense foliage.
"Ouch—Professor Sprout, it hit me!" Lavender Brown suddenly exclaimed, pulling her hand back abruptly.
"Dear, I think it might be because your thoughts were too complicated. The properties of the Whomping Willow are similar to those of wands made from them, with exceptional defensive capabilities, and they favor those with clear minds and pure hearts," Professor Sprout explained.
Draco Malfoy, not far away, grinned, straightening his chest even more.
"It's strange, I thought he would get hit too," Ron said regretfully as Professor Sprout asked the students to mix up fertilizer suitable for the Whomping Willow in wooden barrels.
"I think it's because I've learned Animagus Transfiguration. Weasley," Draco Malfoy said, approaching from behind with a small barrel in hand, bumping into Ron's shoulder and turning back with a smug smile.
Ron opened his mouth to retort, but Harry stopped him.
