"Eren, how do you plan on dealing with the Abnormals?" Jean asked mockingly, his voice echoing in the common room. The sun was high in the sky. It was clear to everyone, even those not directly involved in the conversation, that Jean was just making fun of Eren. But Eren, with his usual bravado, was never one to back down.
"Easy," Eren replied with a hint of defiance, his voice carrying a touch of arrogance as he took a bite out of the bread. "We will attack it in groups, and while he is busy, I will come from behind and deliver the final blow." Eren's words were met with a mix of awe and disbelief.
Mikasa looked at him, her brows furrowing with concern. She had never fought with a Titan, but she knew it wasn't as easy as Eren was trying to make it out to be. The thought of Eren's plan going wrong filled her with a sense of dread. But she understood why he was doing that; he was trying to convince as many people as possible to join the Survey Corps, and trying to make the Titan seem like not such a big deal was a good way of doing that, after all. Everyone here was a teenager. Almost no one here had seen a Titan, so Eren could be successful in convincing them to join, and by the time they had their first taste of Titans, it was already too late.
Naruto couldn't help but flinch slightly at his brother's words; he was making it seem too easy. Did his brother forget what happened the last time they were facing the Titans? And if that were that easy, why were there still Titans out there? The ODM Gear has existed for sixty years now. If that were that easy, what happened three years ago wouldn't have happened.
"I don't understand why you want to fight the Titans so badly," Connie said idly from his seat, sparing Eren a small glance before turning his attention back to his meal.
A dark look spread on Eren's face, and Naruto groaned slightly. He didn't want to remember what happened that day. "The Titans took our home, Connie. Where I was raised. Is all gone, so of course I want to kill ALL OF THEM!" Shouting the last three words with rage, his words echoed throughout the entire room like a bolt of lightning.
Naruto, feeling a mix of concern and confusion, narrowed his eyes, wondering where that came from. He knew his brother could get angry sometimes, but this seemed too much.
"Eren, you should eat," Mikasa quickly said, her voice laced with a scolding tone, as she moved the plate of soup closer to him. Eren huffed in annoyance, his brows furrowing, but decided to listen and start drinking the soup.
Naruto hoped this would be the end of it, but he was the next target. "What about you, Naruto? Do you feel the same as Eren?" Reiner asked from across the room. This question quickly earned the attention of almost everyone there; even Annie seemed to be paying attention to him right now.
Naruto wondered when he had become so famous among the cadets, but the answer was easy. "Of course he does; he is my brother," Eren boasted, not noticing Naruto's look of annoyance at him for speaking in his place. His brother knew well that this wasn't what Naruto wanted. Even Mikasa and Armin exchanged perplexed glances at Eren's presumption.
"No." Naruto interrupted whatever else Eren wanted to say. "If it were to me. I would have become a doctor like my father; that is what I want to be, but this world is not forgiving. The Colossal Titan will return again. The question is not 'if' but when he will return. This is why I will join the Survey Corps. To do my part in this war and to make sure my family stays together." Naruto answered passionately, pointing at his siblings, Armin, Krista, and Ymir, who rolled her eyes.
"That was touching." Silence fell over the entire common room. Everyone turned to see Shadis peeking his head over a small opening of the door, looking at them with his dark eyes. "But you know what is more touching? Hand-to-hand combat. It can never get more touching than that. NOW EVERYONE OUT. YOU WORMS."
"You take the joy out of life, Instructor." Naruto didn't bother to try to speak in a hushed tone. Instead, he made sure his voice was audible enough for Shadis to hear. Everyone held their breath, waiting for the punishment.
"Well, since your life is not bringing you joy. I will make sure from now on that you clean the bathrooms for a whole month. Perhaps, the taste of piss and shit will bring you joy in life." Shadis shouted, glaring at the blonde, who smiled innocently, knowing his plan had worked flawlessly.
"Why anger him little brother?" Mikasa asked with a scolding look, not happy that Naruto would be punished, but the blonde wasn't bothered by it. He was excited.
Later
A moan of pain escaped from Eren's lips as he was tossed to the dire for the fourth time by Annie. Despite the pain, he managed to catch a glimpse of Annie swiftly enclosing her arms around his throat and arms, locking him in a suffocating chokehold. With each passing second, Eren's struggle to draw in a breath grew increasingly arduous. Meanwhile, Naruto was watching them closely, trying to see what mistakes Eren was making and from what he had observed. Eren was easily angered and would rush straight forward blindly without thinking of what he was doing.
Usually, Naruto would be the only one to train with Annie every time they had to train in hand-to-hand combat. It had been like that for over a year now, and no one else was brave enough to throw hands with Annie; many people even questioned Naruto why he spent so much time with Annie, saying she was as cold as ice. Many avoided her for that reason, but Naruto was never afraid of her; sure, she could get quite brutal in her training. He had been on the receiving end of her fists and kicks quite a few times, but the same went for Annie; Naruto quite often was the one who threw fists instead of her. Mikasa had not been happy, in particular, that he was training with Annie, saying he could train with her if he wanted, but the blonde didn't feel like explaining to his sister why he wanted to train with Annie.
Naruto knew Annie could be quite cold sometimes, but he had seen how soft she could sometimes be; while she had a taught skin, Naruto believed her heart was warm and soft.
Today, when Mister Corpse-looking Shadis had ordered them to train in Hand to Hand combat, Naruto had been looking forward to fighting with Annie again, but Jean had wanted Naruto to train him first; the latter had agreed with him since Jean wanted to join the Military Police,
Naruto didn't understand why Jean wanted to go to the Military Police; Jean didn't strike Naruto as lazy or as someone who could ignore certain things that the Military Police tend to do. He really wished that the day would never come when he saw Jean amongst them, not amongst the military police.
Naruto's protective instincts surged as he watched Mikasa's futile attempts to assist Eren, only to be met with his harsh rebuke. This will not do, he thought, closing his notebook and striding purposefully toward Eren, who was still berating Mikasa. The blonde's anger was palpable; they were brothers, and yet, he couldn't help but wonder where Eren's unbridled fury stemmed from.
"That's enough, Eren," Naruto's voice cut through the tension like a blade. He approached Eren, his eyes filled with a mix of concern and frustration. The commotion had drawn the attention of their fellow cadets, who watched the scene.
"No one asked her to help me. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself!" Eren's voice rose, his frustration seeping through. Mikasa, about to interject, was silenced by Naruto's swift intervention.
"No one is questioning your abilities, Eren. But that doesn't excuse your behavior. Mikasa was only trying to help, and that's all there is to it. Now, apologize to her." Naruto's words carried a mix of authority and exasperation; his love for Eren was undeniable, but his brother's actions often tested his patience.
But Eren didn't apologize; instead, he strode past them, his silence a deafening provocation. Naruto's anger flared, his muscles tensing in readiness to confront Eren, but Mikasa's firm grip on his arm halted his advance.
"No need to chase him, Naruto. It's okay." Mikasa said with a hushed tone, sounding defeated.
"No, it's not okay. I will beat him up if I have to—" "No." Mikasa's sharp retort cut through his resolve, catching him off guard.
"I know Eren is difficult sometimes, but as you said yourself, we have to believe in him, "Mikasa's voice wavered with a hint of hope, her eyes betraying her worry. "I believe he just needs to cool off, and will realize his mistake on his own." Naruto could sense the underlying unease in her words despite her attempt at optimism.
Naruto sighed resignedly before crossing his arms and looking at her grey-purple eyes. He didn't like this; he knew Eren was sometimes angry, and whenever their old home was brought up, he would get riled up and start making claims that he would defeat all the Titans. Naruto wasn't sure how realistic that was. After all, even with his abilities, he could only grow so many trees before getting exhausted and needing to rest. Naruto didn't want to tell Eren that, but if the entire rest of the world was truly filled with nothing but Titans, then Naruto knew it was impossible for them to kill all of them; after all, how could one kill millions of Titans within a lifetime?
"Very well, Mikasa. But you will tell me if he starts acting like a prick again, and then I will tell Mom, and she will chew him up," Naruto said, his concern for Mikasa evident in his voice and a sudden sadistic smile playing on his lips.
Mikasa rolled her eyes, knowing that Lady Carla would yell at Eren for hours if they told her that he fought with Jean every single night and would claim for everyone to hear that he would kill all the Titans. "I will. Thank you, little brother." That said, she walked away, leaving Naruto alone in the middle of the training grounds.
Naruto couldn't help but feel that Mikasa liked calling him little brother; he wasn't sure why.
Naruto, engrossed in his thoughts, was jolted back to reality when he felt a tapping on his forehead. Startled, he turned in bewilderment, only to find Annie knocking on his forehead with her index finger. As though his mind was a door, "Are you there? Is anyone home?" Her words dripped with playful taunting.
"Ohh, is that a joke I heard from you, Annie?" A wide grin stretched across his face. Annie couldn't resist rolling her eyes. As she averted her gaze from Naruto, desperately attempting to conceal her burgeoning smile, he couldn't help but catch a glimpse of that telltale flicker of mirth dancing upon her lips.
"You know you're getting better at it, Annie. In no time, you will be as popular as Reiner." Naruto teased while pointing at Reiner, who was busy talking with Krista; Naruto's amusement grew as he observed Ymir standing at Krista's side, sending intense glares Reiner's way for simply existing in close proximity to Krista. A chuckle escaped Naruto's lips.
"Like Reiner," Annie's voice dripped with disdain as she spat out her words. "I will never change; I'm as I am." Her eyes flickered mischievously as she gestured towards Reiner with her thumb. "If you want a Reiner, then he's right there. I'm sure he wouldn't mind getting to know you better," she divulged.
"Hey, just a joke. I would have never wanted you to change," Naruto quickly exclaimed, his hands raised. Annie's eyebrow arched before she closed the distance between them. Naruto felt a delightful warmth emanating from his chest as his heart raced. Her eyes were a shade of crystal blue. Despite the underlying steel in her countenance, there was an enigmatic tenderness.
"Never. Why?" Annie questioned, looking directly at his blue eyes.
"Because you're good as you are now. Sure, getting to know you is like breaking a boulder with my forehead," Naruto continued, earning an eye roll from Annie.
"But that makes you 'You' cold like winter on the outside, but warm like the sun on the inside." Naruto finished, feeling embarrassed to say such words; he knew he wasn't good with words, especially when talking to girls.
As Naruto locked eyes with Annie, he couldn't help but be captivated by her beauty. "God, she's beautiful," Naruto thought. Looking back at Annie, he saw her eyes had widened in shock. A surge of panic washed over him. His throat felt dry, and a nervous knot tightened in his stomach as he silently fretted.
"D-did you hear that?" At that moment, he wished the ground would open and swallow him whole, and that desire grew as Annie had yet to answer his question and simply looked deep into her thoughts.
"Hear what?"
Naruto couldn't help but mentally sigh in relief, thanking the gods that he hadn't actually said that out loud and made a fool of himself.
"Nothing; it must have been the wind," Naruto answered 'wisely' with an incredibly stupid-looking grin that Annie thought made her smile slightly in amusement.
Soon, Naruto and Annie started the friendly hand-to-hand combat fight; as usual, quite a few cadets gathered to watch them fight, and with every fight they had, the small audience started betting on who would win.
As the friendly fight unfolded, Naruto's keen eye caught something peculiar: Annie's punches seemed to lack their usual force. Each blow still stung, but there was a noticeable difference, as if Annie was intentionally holding back. This unexpected change in Annie's approach left Naruto perplexed; after all, Annie was never one to pull her punches.
Eren, along with Armin and Mikasa, watched the fight with a mix of admiration and envy. He couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy at Naruto's ability to hold his ground against Annie, a feat he had failed to achieve on numerous occasions.
Naruto easily dodged an attack before throwing himself at Annie, his arms around her right arm and throat in a tight chokehold, but not too tight, so she could still breathe. Annie struggled against his grip, but Naruto kept his grip on her, not allowing even the smallest window for her to escape.
The small audience held their breath, watching closely, expecting Naruto to win; Ymir was the loudest among them. "Don't stop, Cat Boy, kick Her ASS!" Ymir shouted, earning a look of disapproval from Krista.
Bertholdt couldn't help but get increasingly worried. He expected Annie to escape his chokehold by now, but it seemed Naruto wasn't allowing her; he felt cold sweat rolling down his face. Seeing that Annie wasn't escaping his chokehold, he stepped forward.
"Annie, come on. You're stronger than this. Are you giving up?" Naruto whispered to her as his grip on her started easing, just enough for her to escape from him. Just as Annie was about to escape, a shout was heard in the air.
"Let Go Of Her. You Devil!"
"Huhh!"
His gaze shot upward just in time to catch a kick hurtling toward him. Acting swiftly, Naruto instinctively shielded his face with his arms. He winced in pain from the strong kick, which ultimately propelled him backward, away from Annie.
Naruto felt his anger rising. He quickly stood up, ignoring the pain in his arms, ready to face whoever hit him, only to see that it was Bertholdt! Naruto was baffled. Bertholdt was never someone to show anger towards anyone, and it wasn't just Naruto who was baffled; everyone else was as well.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Mikasa, her voice trembling with anger, was the first to react, glaring at the tall boy like she wanted to murder him. Berholdt flinched from her glare, and as Mikasa tried to step forward, her hands turned into fists; Armin quickly got hold of her arm, stopping her; even Eren grabbed her, knowing it would end badly if Mikasa decided that Berholt needed to pay for kicking Naruto, he too was angry, but he knew how dangerous Mikasa could be when she was angry.
"Mikasa, stop. The impulsive one is supposed to be Eren."
"Hey!" He quickly protested as he tried to hold back Mikasa, who glared at Bertholt.
"Calm down, Mikasa. He didn't mean it." Reiner quickly defended the tall boy, getting in between Mikasa and Berholtd. She was still sending daggers at him for attacking Naruto when his back was turned.
Bertholdt ignored them. Instead, he walked up to Annie, who was still lying on the ground; she looked unhurt. He quickly extended his hand towards her, wanting to help her stand up, only for Annie to accept his hand. The moment she stood up, she used her other hand to punch Bertholdt in the face, sending him into the dirt.
"Who told you to intervene, Bertholdt?" Annie's voice dripped with venom as she glared down at him, her fury palpable. Naruto couldn't fathom the source of her rage; it wasn't just anger; it was a seething, intense fury. While the kick hurt, it wasn't really a big deal; it was not like any of his bones were broken.
"Enough, Annie," Reiner spoke towards Annie while trying to help Bertholdt stand up. The latter had blood trailing down from his nose, but his face looked similar to that of someone who just lost everything; he looked defeated in a way.
Annie glared at Reiner; this time, her glare was tenfold. For a moment, everyone expected Annie to punch Reiner in the face, and from the way she made her hands fists, a voice spoke behind Annie.
"Annie," Naruto's voice was firm yet gentle as he positioned himself behind her . He dared to place his hand on her shoulder, a gesture that could have sparked her anger. But instead, a wave of calm seemed to wash over her, her tense muscles gradually relaxing. Without a word, she shrugged off Naruto's hand and walked away.
Naruto watched her walk away, wondering if he could do something to help when he heard footsteps approaching. He turned just in time to see Krista running towards him, while Ymir shook her head and looked displeased that Krista was paying so much attention to Naruto. Mikasa, Armin, and Eren followed the two.
"Naruto, are you alright?" Krista quickly asked as soon as she hugged him; Naruto quickly hugged her back, never tired of hugging her.
"I'm alright, sunshine," Naruto said teasingly as Krista pulled away from the hug; she quickly blushed slightly in embarrassment; Ymir glared down at Naruto, looking pissed that Krista was blushing because of something Naruto said, especially with the triumphant smirk on Naruto's face.
"Naruto, you okay. Does it hurt?" Mikasa asked, touching his arm where Berholdt had kicked him.
"...I'm fine," Naruto said, a little bothered by all the questions, and he quickly noticed Eren chuckling at his reaction.
"What is so funny?"
"You finally know what is like." That's all Eren said with a smug smirk.
Naruto rolled his eyes, ready to say something back at him when the giant girl named Ymir decided to step forward.
"Enough of this, now, Naruto, what do you have to say for yourself," Ymir quickly scolded him, looming over Naruto like a giant, causing Naruto to look up to the point his neck got a little uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry, mom. I will be a good boy from now on," Naruto said teasingly, his smirk growing even more when Krista giggled and Ymir growled.
"What did you say boy?" Ymir demanded, leaning her head downwards towards Naruto.
"I said I can't hear you from down here,"
"Speak up, boy. I can't hear you down there,"
Krista quickly got in between them, giving them a scolding look.
.
.
Naruto was sitting with Mikasa, Armin, Ymir, and Krista as they usually did, eating dinner in the common room while Eren and Jean had once again started a fight. Naruto found their fights funny and entertaining, but by this point, he was sick of them. They had become so frequent that people placed bets, and apparently, this was the 300th fight, so everyone wanted to see just how it would end.
Naruto just wanted to write in peace. He didn't understand why Eren and Jean seemed to have made it their life mission to fight each other the moment they looked at one another the wrong way. It wasn't just them fighting; many cadets had stood up and were cheering for either Eren or Jean to win, adding to the already annoying loud noise.
Naruto glanced briefly at Mikasa; she was watching Eren fight with concern.
Naruto's attention turned to Bertholdt. He hadn't touched his food; his plate of stew was full, and his bread was untouched. Reiner was sitting beside Bertholdt, quite often whispering something to him. Naruto couldn't hear what it was, but he figured they were encouraging words. Naruto's eyes flickered at Annie's seat, and once again, she wasn't there.
Naruto quickly escaped his thoughts when Eren threw Jean to their table, which caused one of the plates to fly straight at Krista's face, splattering the stew all over her face and clothes, not to mention the slight cut on her forehead that quickly started bleeding.
"Krista!!" Ymir quickly cried out in concern, looking at the blonde girl from up close, using a napkin to cover the cut on her forehead, before quickly glaring at both Jean and Eren, who hadn't seemed to have noticed what they had done.
Naruto felt his anger rise up; without thinking, he stood up from his seat and marched towards Jean, who was ready to continue his fight with Eren and not apologize to Krista for being stupid. Both of them Were Morons.
.
.
"Oi."
A punch in Jean's stomach caused him to gasp loudly. He fell on the floor, holding his stomach while trying to catch his breath. Naruto quickly turned his attention to his big brother, who took a step backward, opening his mouth to say some excuse. Naruto quickly grasped his tunic, raising him up in the air before slamming him against the table.
Eren's gaze, filled with seething anger, met Naruto's. Meanwhile, Jean, still sprawled on the floor, struggled to regain his breath, using a nearby table for support as he slowly rose to his feet.
Before Eren could utter a word of inquiry, Naruto's voice thundered, cutting through the tension. 'That's enough, Eren. Enough from both of you. Look at what you've done to Krista,' he bellowed, his anger palpable. All eyes turned to Krista, her forehead marred by a small but significant cut.
Eren and Jean looked guilty, but Naruto wasn't done; he was tired of his brother fighting Jean for simply having a different mindset. "Enough of your stupid fights. Eren, you tell me you want to go to the survey corps, yet you lose control of such small things; how do you think you will survive out there like this?" Naruto spoke, and his words quickly got Eren angry. He stood up and got to Naruto's level. Despite Naruto being the little brother, he wasn't afraid of Eren.
"What did you say?" Eren demanded, his face getting slightly red from anger.
"You heard me; Jean has the right to have a mind of his own on what part of the military he wants to join; everyone has a mind of their own. Yet, that is enough for you to get angry." Naruto quickly pointed out that despite his words, Naruto didn't allow himself to get angrier; he didn't allow himself to shout at Eren; his voice was still calm and collected.
"Tell me, Eren, the mortality rate in the Survey Corps is 60% to 70% on every expedition. Tell me, what will you do if you see one of your friends die, because trust me you will?"
"I will kill the Titan that did It!" Eren quickly answered, almost head-butting Naruto.
"You ain't killing shit, Eren. If you lose control out there, you will be Dead. Do you understand me? All is gone. Your life and your dreams. You tell everyone here how you will kill all the Titans and avenge what happened in Shiganshina." Naruto spoke before his voice dropped to a whisper, only for Eren to hear.
"How can you be so selfish? What do you think it will happen to us? Me, our mother, Mikasa, and Armin. What of us, Eren? How do you think I would feel if I got the news that you got yourself killed? Because believe it or not, neither I nor Mikasa can always be there to protect you. Tell me, how can you be so Selfish?" Naruto finished before pulling himself away from Eren. The latter's eyes were as wide as plates, tears quickly filling his green eyes, rolling down his cheek, and falling onto the wooden floor below.
Naruto felt guilty for causing that to happen, but he wouldn't apologize; his brother needed to learn to control his anger. His eyes fell down on the pair of glasses hanging from the hem of his shirt, and his hands grasped them to remind himself.
'Father, if only you were here,' Naruto thought as Eren walked away without saying a word. He watched him leave, but he didn't follow. He hoped this little incident would help him see things more clearly.
He turned and left; he needed to clear his mind.
Forest
"Annie!" Naruto's voice echoed through the dense forest, carrying a mix of concern and curiosity. The rhythmic thuds of punches hitting a nearby tree reverberated in his ears, pulling him deeper into the woodland.
Walking further into the forest, Naruto could see Annie's figure. Her fist connected with the tree's bark with each forceful blow. Naruto's eyes widened in concern, knowing a punch like that could fracture her hand or worse.
"Annie!" Naruto called out once again, this time louder, as he ran towards her, causing Annie to stop just as she was about to punch the tree again; she quickly turned to face Naruto, who finally reached the clearing in the forest she was standing on.
"Annie, what are you doing-" "How long you have been standing there?" Annie turned abruptly toward Naruto, her eyes narrowed dangerously, and her voice took on an icy tone, interrupting whatever Naruto had wanted to say.
With a nonchalant air and a slight shrug, Naruto responded, "I saw you and called you," Annie's gaze intensified, her eyes studying him intently as if attempting to discern any trace of deceit. After a moment of uncertainty, she finally exhaled a long sigh of relief, her shoulders relaxing and slumping downwards. This sudden change in Annie's demeanor perplexed Naruto.
"Annie, are you alright?" Naruto asked, concerned, still remembering the way she lashed out at Bertholdt and Reiner. While Annie was cold towards everyone, she wasn't someone to lash out and get angry; in fact, Naruto couldn't remember her ever showing genuine anger towards anyone except Reiner and Bert.
"I'm fine!" Annie said dismissively with a shake of her hand before looking away from Naruto, who didn't seem convinced.
Naruto could tell something was bothering Annie, but her silence was a clear sign that whatever it was, she didn't feel comfortable sharing with him. While he really wished she would be comfortable around him, he wouldn't try to force her to open up. Instead, Naruto decided to take a different approach.
"D-do you need a hug?" Was Naruto's 'smart' approach? This immediately affected Annie, who whirled around to face him and looked at him completely bewildered; it seemed Annie had expected many things, but not this one.
"Why would I need a Hug?"
"Hey, everyone needs a Hug every once in a while." Naruto quickly defended himself. Annie rolled her eyes at his antics. Sometimes, Naruto could be really foolish, but she couldn't keep herself from smiling in amusement.
"I don't need a hug,"
"How about a fight?" Naruto asked right away while taking a fighting stance in front of Annie, causing Annie to smile before rushing towards Naruto with a raised fist.
Tomorrow
"You're not leaving until this place is spotless!" Shadis thundered, his face a fiery red with anger before he slammed the door shut with a force that rattled the walls.
Naruto smirked once the door was closed. He looked at the marble floor around him. His siblings weren't happy with his punishment, but the blonde was more than pleased. Right now, he was alone, and no one would enter this place until Naruto cleaned the bathroom.
"Let's give this a shot!" Naruto exclaimed, his excitement palpable. A tree vein sprouted from his palm, unfurling like a delicate tendril in the soil. It stretched, branching out into smaller veins and sprouting leaves.
The blonde watched in awe as a miniature oak tree took shape, its base rooted on the marble floor. It was a sight to behold, but he knew he couldn't keep it here. How on earth was he going to explain this to the Instructor?
With unwavering focus, Naruto directed his attention to the small oak tree, the vein still connected to his palm. Slowly, the tree sank back into his palm as if it had never been there.
Naruto closed his eyes, remembering what his father had told him; he needed to imagine what he wanted to create. Another vein grew out of his palm, but this one became no tree.
After a minute of intense focus, he willed them into existence. Finally, delicate wooden sculptures of his loved ones and friends materialized in his hands. Each sculpture was a miniature masterpiece, standing as tall as his index finger and boasting a girth of five inches.
Closing his eyes once more, Naruto envisioned something new. This time, a wooden spear, one meter long, materialized in his hands. He couldn't wait to see what else he could create.
NOTE: The reason why Mikasa addresses Naruto as 'Little brother' most of the time is that, in this story, she knew her mother was pregnant before she died; that's why Grisha was even visiting them in the first place that day. Mikasa knew she would have become a bigger sister, so in her mind, she likes to see Naruto as that little brother that she lost that day. She knows he is not the same, but that's why she thinks of Naruto as only a little brother, unlike with Eren.
