Abnormal Type-Moon

Chapter 153: [153] The Three Candidates

Roy pondered thoughtfully as he carefully examined the profiles of the three candidates.

As a reporter for the news department, Yabuki's information carried some weight. The data displayed on the window was quite detailed, not only including battle videos of the three but also listing their personality traits, tactical styles, and so on.

"Among these three, honestly, I'd most recommend Her Highness the Princess. She's cold on the surface but actually has a decent personality. Plus, she's currently in a rush to find a partner for the Phoenix Festa, and since she still owes you a favor, I think if you ask her, you'll probably hit it off right away!"

"As for the other two, Nestor Fandorin plans to participate in the Gryps Festa, and as for Toono Mozuhi... well, she's actually the best match for you personality-wise, but she's a complete opportunist. Without sufficient benefits, she won't be interested. You'll have to show her your strength and prove that joining will really pay off for her before she'll agree."

I see.

Roy glanced at Toono Mozuhi's battle video.

This black-haired, straight-haired girl's tactics were very simple: basically, she kept her distance by any means, then unleashed hundreds or even thousands of light arrows in a saturated barrage from her bow-shaped armament, overwhelming and defeating her opponent. In long-range combat, she was one of the most troublesome types.

As for Nestor Fandorin, he was competent in both melee and ranged combat—solid all-around but not as flashy at range as Toono Mozuhi, and only average in close quarters. A polite way to put it: no glaring weaknesses.

"You picked me for this list because you think I'm purely melee, right?"

"Isn't that so?"

Yabuki paused for a moment and gave Roy a deep look.

His gaze lost some of its usual playfulness and gained a serious edge, somehow feeling sharper.

"No, of course not."

Roy pulled a slight smirk, flawless and confident.

"So, out of these three, who do you plan to pick as your partner?"

Yabuki chuckled and quickly changed the subject, relaxing again as his serious aura vanished.

"Hmm..."

Roy fell into thought.

Honestly, among these three, he preferred Julis and Toono Mozuhi; Nestor Fandorin was too mediocre.

Compared to Julis, Toono Mozuhi's fighting style suited his taste better, and as Yabuki said, their compatibility was very high.

Still, whether Julis or Toono Mozuhi, he wasn't exactly enthusiastic—just the best option among a bunch of "short guys looking for a tall partner."

"Are you sure Kirin Toudou isn't joining the Phoenix Festa?"

"…You really set your sights on that cute, busty junior?"

Yabuki looked at Roy with a face full of disbelief, like he was staring at some kind of pervert.

"Honestly, are you into her? Don't be shy—no guy hates a type like Kirin Toudou!"

"I'm seriously discussing this with you."

"All right, all right."

Meeting Roy's gentle gaze, Yabuki Eishirou suddenly felt a vague pressure and hastily raised his hands in surrender.

"She probably won't participate. Her uncle wouldn't allow it. Don't ask me why, because I don't know myself—I haven't succeeded in interviewing Kirin even once yet. Her uncle has blocked all the reporters."

Yabuki shrugged helplessly, clearly at a loss.

Seeing this, Roy didn't ask further.

"So, who do you favor?"

"I'll keep it open for now."

Roy turned and continued tidying the bed.

"If I can't find a suitable partner at the last minute, then I'll go with Toono Mozuhi."

"Ohhh!"

Yabuki's face broke into a sly, fox-like smile upon hearing this.

He had already said that Toono Mozuhi was a complete opportunist, yet Roy still looked so confident—like he truly believed he could convince her to join. It seemed he was very confident in his own abilities!

This specially admitted student, brought in by the president against everyone's objections, really was no ordinary person.

According to the data accumulated over the years by the news department, although previous special admissions had been excellent, their average ranking in the "Star Ranking List" only placed them around the middle. Roy's confidence in persuading Toono Mozuhi meant he at least believed he could rank among the "First Page Twelve"—the absolute top tier.

Looks like this year's Phoenix Festa would be something to watch!

"By the way, how much time is left before the alternate team registration closes?"

"Oh, let me see... eleven days left."

Eleven days. That was fairly enough time.

Roy thought to himself.

***

Unknowingly, a week had already passed since Roy arrived at Seidoukan Academy.

During this week, Roy's daily life was peaceful. Thanks to a very detailed campus guide from Yabuki, he had a rough understanding of the academy's various systems and the functions of its different departments.

Though he was searching for a suitable teammate, Roy couldn't find anyone better than Toono Mozuhi. Not a single person comparable to Julis. Clearly, Yabuki's judgment was quite accurate.

After school one day, Roy packed up and stood, intending to leave the classroom.

"Yo, off to another date with the princess, huh?"

Yabuki approached with a mischievous grin.

The boys and girls in the class overheard and suddenly perked up. The classroom fell so silent you could hear a needle drop.

"How many times do I have to say it? It's not a date."

Roy sighed and looked at Yabuki with a caring, almost pitying gaze.

"You can say that here all you want, but if you say that to Julis, and she burns you, I'm not responsible."

After saying this, Roy ignored Yabuki's reaction and left the classroom.

"Damn it, Roy is going to hog Princess Julis all by himself again!"

The boys in the class showed their outrage.

"What do you mean, boys? It's clearly Julis who's hogging Roy!"

The girls shot the boys angry glares.

"Girls, wake up! Julis is a real princess after all!"

"Hmph, she's just a puppet kingdom's princess, what's so great about that?"

The classroom's argument grew louder and louder.

Yabuki Eishirou, the troublemaker, chuckled happily as he walked away.

Seidoukan Academy had three enormous multi-purpose arenas.

Usually, these served as large assembly halls during opening ceremonies or award ceremonies, or for battles involving top-ranking students.

But most of the time, they were used as training grounds.

Roy arrived at one of the arenas and pressed the wall-mounted phone to connect inside.

"Who is it?"

A voice-only spatial window appeared in front of him, a cold girl's voice coming through.

"It's me."

After Roy replied, within two seconds, the arena's massive doors creaked open.

Inside was a huge space.

The surrounding stands were very spacious—large enough to seat tens of thousands of spectators at once. In the center stood a competition field as large as a soccer stadium, vast beyond imagination.
