Aether Chronicles: Birth Of A Legend

Chapter 204: You… You’re Monsters!'

Count Alaric was leading the Blackwood Guards in the battle of Frostbite Ridge against the raiding Northerners. They were being pushed back thanks to the overwhelming numbers of the Stormborn soldiers.

He was just about to order a retreat, a first in his career. Just then, someone appeared on the horizon, blazing straight toward the enemy leader, who was a Tier Nine warrior. Moments later, cheers erupted from his soldiers as a name reached his ears.

''The Ghost of the South is here!'' the men shouted in relief.

Alaric smiled as he watched his youngest son killing dozens of enemies like it was nothing, prompting excitement to well up inside him. 'This boy is something special and is getting stronger every day!' he thought.

While his father watched him turn the tide of the battle, Raegar was ducking and diving out of the way of the counterattacks. He moved like a ghost, appearing in front of one man, cutting him into a thousand pieces.

In a heart-pounding instant, he skidded to a halt, his boots kicking up a swirl of grit and dust as he faced a cluster of Stormrune commanders. His piercing gaze locked onto them, a predatory glint in his eyes.

Without hesitation, he unleashed Lightningfire Blast, a surge of crackling Aether that tore through the air like a storm. The blazing arc of light and flame forced his enemies to scatter, diving for cover as the spell roared toward them.

The impact was cataclysmic; it caused the ground to shudder as the blast struck, erupting in a blinding explosion that sent a massive plume of dust and debris billowing into the sky, obscuring the battlefield in a chaotic haze.

Seizing the moment, his lips curled into a cunning smirk. The enemy was momentarily disoriented, and he began to weave his next spell, Titanfall. He channeled Aether as he summoned a metal rod.

With a flick of his wrist, he launched it skyward, the towering projectile vanishing into the heavens, unnoticed by his foes amidst the choking dust cloud. But the battle was far from over.

A sudden flash of movement caught his eye, and before he could react, a fierce woman clad in dark, flowing robes materialized in front of him, her blade slicing through the air, aiming for his throat.

Instinct kicked in, and Raegar's twin daggers flashed up in a blur, crossing to meet her strike, a resounding clang of steel on steel echoed out. Sparks flew, illuminating the tension in the air.

Just as the woman pressed her attack. A shimmering Dark Shield materialized in front of him, its inky surface absorbing the blow. From the shadows at his side, Drusilla emerged ready to help him fight the newcomer while grinning.

She had changed; she now had black hair and red eyes as she gazed at the woman trying to kill him. Her body blazed, and her hands glowed faintly as she started casting Dark Blasts at the assassin.

He grinned as the excitement overwhelmed him. ''Thanks for that, Dru. Cover my back and kill the other commanders.''

With a fierce nod, the Dark Fairy fought alongside him, and the two warriors united in a whirlwind of teamwork to confront the assassin. Blades clashed in a symphony of steel, each of his strikes countering the enemy's ferocity.

As this happened, shimmering shields deflected her cunning sneak attacks. ''Curse your luck, clinging to that Fairy wretched Southerner!'' the assassin snarled, venom dripping from her words.

Raegar let out a roaring laugh, dodging to the side. In a flash, Drusilla soared forward, her fist crashing into the woman's jaw with a thunderous right hook. He surged in, his left fist slamming into the foe, sending her reeling.

Together, the duo unleashed a relentless onslaught, their synchronized assault shaking the very ground as they battled to claim victory. The enemy's defenses crumbled, each move a seamless dance of destruction.

His blades sang through the air, an arc that met the assassin's desperate parries, while Drusilla's dark magic crackled, weaving shadow tendrils that lashed out. Booms thundered across the scorched earth, each impact shaking the ground as their combined strikes landed like meteors.

The assassin, eyes wide, staggered under the barrage. ''You… you're monsters!'' she hissed, her voice breaking as she swung wildly, her once-lethal skill reduced to frantic desperation.

Drusilla's lips curled into a wicked grin, her wings flaring as she unleashed a torrent of Dark energy, slamming the assassin back. He seized the moment, spinning low to sweep her legs with a brutal kick, sending her backing off.

The air crackled as Raegar faced the assassin, her knives glinting. Her strikes came like a viper's, swift and deadly, but he was a titan forged in countless battles since starting his journey.

He let out a roar that shook the heavens and swung his blades, the steel singing as it met her weapons, bone-rattling force when they connected. Sparks erupted, a cascade of fire in the twilight, as he battered her blades from her grasp, sending them spiraling into the dust.

The assassin's eyes widened, her snarl twisting into dread as Raegar loomed, his presence a storm of wrath. ''No mercy!'' he bellowed, his voice a thunderclap.

In a blur, his blade became a whirlwind, a radiant arc of destruction that carved through the air. The assassin's scream was swallowed by the chaos as his strike sundered her, slicing her into a thousand fleeting fragments that scattered like ash on the wind.

Without pause, his gaze locked onto the Stormrune Leader, a towering figure wreathed in crackling lightning, his warhammer pulsing. The ground quaked as he charged. ''Your attack ends here!'' he roared, leaping into the fray.

The leader swung his hammer, unleashing a bolt of searing energy, but he rolled beneath it, the earth scorching in his wake. He surged upward, his blade crashing against the man's defenses, each clash a deafening boom that echoed across the battlefield.

Drusilla's voice rang out from the sidelines, her dark magic appearing to shield Raegar from a barrage of storm bolts. Together, they pressed the attack, his daggers a tide against the Stormrune Leader's faltering guard.

Suddenly, the giant man roared, his voice a thunderous gale. ''You cannot defy the north!''

Yet his red eyes burned with defiance as he ducked beneath a hammer swing that cratered the earth, then sprang forward with explosive agility, his blade carving across the leader's armored chest.

The giant staggered, his aura flickering, but he spun and unleashed a barrage of strikes, each one faster, stronger, battering the enemy's defenses. Moments later, the air roared with booms, the ground quaking as he overwhelmed the towering foe.

Sensing the end, he leaped skyward, his blade glowing with an otherworldly shine as he channeled every ounce of his strength. ''This is where you die!'' he bellowed.

In a breathtaking crescendo, his strikes cleaved through the warhammer, shattering it into a thousand sparking fragments, and drove straight through the giant's heart. A final, cataclysmic boom erupted as the man collapsed, his body dissolving into fading embers.

Raegar landed amidst the smoldering wreckage, his chest heaving, blade still humming with victory's echo. Drusilla soared to his side, her eyes alight with pride as the battlefield fell silent, the storm's wrath extinguished.

''That was amazing, Rae!'' she exclaimed.

He was just about to speak when blood poured from a wound on his chest, causing the blonde to panic. Drusilla began casting her healing magic over him, putting a smile on his face.

''Thanls, Dru,'' he muttered.

Just then, someone running up to him in armor caught his attention, prompting him to turn around as he spotted his father walking toward them. Alaric came to a stop while staring at the Dark Fairy clinging onto his arm.

His eyebrow rose before speaking. ''Do you want to introduce us to my son?''

Raegar chuckled and revealed, smiling. ''Father, this is Drusilla. She's my bonded Fairy.''

As the words slipped from his mouth, Drusilla flashed a sly, knowing grin, her eyes sparkling with mischief. ''And his lover, too, once we have a chat with Yuki,'' she added.

The older man let out a hearty chuckle, his weathered face creasing with warmth. ''Oh, that silly girl,'' he said, shaking his head fondly. ''Yuki will take to you like a moth to a flame. She's a gem, that one, full of heart and fiercely devoted to my boy here.''

His tone carried a mix of pride and amusement, his eyes glinting with affection for both his son and the woman they spoke of. Drusilla's giggle danced through the air, light and infectious, before Alaric's expression softened further.

He leaned forward, his gaze settling on her with a blend of curiosity and paternal warmth. ''It's truly a pleasure to meet you, Miss Drusilla,'' he said cheerfully. ''I trust my son hasn't been dragging you into too much mischief, has he? He's got a knack for finding trouble, but I reckon you're more than capable of keeping him in line.''
