Chapter 10: Power System
"Are you sure about this?" Sylas asked as he looked at the hand band in his hands.
"Yes, master I have already disconnected it from their server, and it now connected to me." Sera replied with a chuckled.
"If you say so." Sylas replied before wearing the band and it immediately activated.

"Hold on a minute." Sera said as her body flew from the command chair's armrest and landed on his band and connected herself to it.

Sylas read through the information displayed on hologram.
The information taught to him by his grandfather about Aetherians popped up in his mind.
The abilities of an Aetherian are divided into two essential parts: Aether and Psychic or more simply the energy and mind.
These two elements are inseparable, forming the foundation of all Aetherian power.
The Aether is the lifeblood of the environment, an invisible energy flowing through every corner of existence, much like oxygen.
Aether manifests in multiple forms across the universe.
In the vastness of space, it exists as raw, untamed energy, making spacefaring a hazardous endeavor.
On planets and asteroids, it takes the form of mineral deposits known as Aether Crystals—more stable yet still potent.
Meanwhile, refined Aether, a more controlled and docile variant, can be found on nearly every world, seamlessly integrated into the atmosphere.
An Aetherian uses this energy to fuel their abilities, channelling it into reality.
Without Aether, even the most gifted Aetherian would be powerless and their abilities would not work.
The Psychic aspect, however, is the unseen force behind the miracle.
It is the part that control the aether, dictating the precision, strength, and speed of an Aetherian's abilities.
The Aetherial nexus is the organ that acts as a bridge between the mind and aether. The organ that sets a normal human apart from an aetherian.
An Aetherian's ability can be quantify in four ways, the first is the Reach which defines the boundary of their influence, forming an invisible sphere with the Aetherian at its centre.
It is measured as a radius extending from their body, encompassing everything within. This radius represents how far their abilities can stretch—how far their mind can touch and control the Aether in the environment.
A novice might only influence a few meters, while a master's Reach could encompass entire battlefields, making their presence a force to be reckoned with.
The next is the Burden limit which is defined simply as the maximum weight of that an Aetherian can lift or manipulate within their Reach and it is quantified in kilograms.
Aetherians with high Burden Limits are like titans, that can lift entire buildings, pull spaceship from orbit effortlessly, while those with lower limits must tread carefully to avoid being overwhelmed.
Next, Aether control or hold is the finesse of an Aetherian's grasp on the energy itself. It is the strength and sharpness of their connection to Aether.
In combat, this becomes a defining factor. When two Aetherians with similar ranks and stats clash, their Aether Control determines the outcome—each trying to disrupt the other's abilities within their overlapping Reach.
For a weaker Aetherian facing someone with superior control, the battlefield becomes a nightmare. Their Aetherian abilities are smothered, suppressed, or outright disabled unless the stronger Aetherian allows them to act. Distance also plays a crucial role here; the closer the opponent, the more oppressive the stronger Aetherian's dominance becomes.
(A.N: Honestly I have been stuck for days trying to come up with a good way to explain this to you guys but couldn't but keep reading it should make more sense and if you have questions feel free to ask I am more than happy to explain)
The last but not the least is concentration, this dictates how effortlessly an Aetherian can wield their power.
For some, moving their Burden Limit requires absolute stillness, every ounce of focus devoted to the task. For others with higher Concentration, it might take just a hand gesture, a flick of their gaze, or even a mere thoughts.
One of the most important things that cannot be forgotten is Talent. No amount of effort can fully replace it. While hard work can bridge some gaps at the lower ranks, the higher an Aetherian climbs, the more evident the differences become.
Talent determines how quickly an Aetherian advances, how easily they break through to the next rank, and how much effort is required at every stage of their journey.
For some, talent manifests as extraordinary abilities like short range teleportation even at apprentice rank or unique traits like fire resistance.
For others, like Sylas, it grants higher stat limits, pushing the boundaries of what's possible. While a normal Aetherian at the peak of their rank might have a limit of 100, Sylas stands at 150—a staggering 50% higher. As the ranks increase, this gap only widens: 1,000 to 1,500, 10,000 to 15,000, and beyond.
