Chapter 38:
Chapter 38: I’ll Help You Get Him:
After Li Ruochen spoke, he quickly realized something was off and hurriedly added, “Everyone, please get up. I forgive you.”
“Thank you for your forgiveness, young lady. May you live a long life, achieve promotions and raises, and have a son soon!” the mustached leader exclaimed with exaggerated enthusiasm.
Behind him, over fifty subordinates echoed in unison, “We wish the young lady a long life, a promotion, a raise in salary, and a son soon!” Their collective voice reverberated through the area.
Li Ruochen’s face flushed with embarrassment. She didn’t even have a boyfriend—how could she have a baby? With whom?
Lin You, seeing Xiao Hu and the others apologizing, took Li Ruochen’s hand and turned to leave. As he walked away, he addressed Tang Sen. “Thank you, Mr. Tang. I owe you one. In the future, if there’s something I can do for you, I will.”
He added coldly, “But remember, this is a one-time favor. Don’t push your luck.” Without waiting for a reply, he walked off without looking back.
Tang Sen stood there, his heart pounding. If this high schooler truly belonged to that level of power, then his promise was invaluable. It was like gaining an invisible shield, a lifeline.
Just as Lin You was about to step out of the signal-shielding vehicle’s range, he glanced at the glass display window of a wonton shop in the distance. His [Super Perception], which had yet to cool down, picked up a gaze filled with hatred, emanating from behind the glass a hundred meters away. He immediately recognized the person—it was someone he knew all too well.
In fact, Lin Tianyang had arrived earlier, even before Lin You. It wasn’t because he anticipated any commotion; he had simply been celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday nearby. This street, filled with luxury boutiques, was the perfect place for his plans. He had already spent over a million on gifts, hoping to win over his girlfriend’s heart that evening. Then, the explosion happened.
By coincidence, he ran into Lin Shiyan and Lin Shengnan. At first, he had wanted to approach Lin Shiyan, but the moment he saw Lin Shengnan, he changed his mind. His rational fourth sister had always unnerved him, as though she could see right through him.
He had then witnessed the mustached man leading his gang to attack his two sisters mercilessly. Watching Lin Shiyan being humiliated stirred something in him. He had wanted to step forward and intervene, but fear held him back. This was a group even his father, Lin Yuan, was wary of—he knew he’d only be throwing himself into the fire.
Then, Lin You appeared.
Lin Tianyang was both shocked and awed by Lin You’s fearless charge into the fray. For a moment, he thought Lin You was doomed. But the situation flipped when a more formidable group arrived, forcing even the Dingcheng Group to bow before Lin You.
Could this really be the same Lin You?
The Lin You who had been bullied, framed, and oppressed countless times, never daring to speak up or fight back?
He recalled Lin You’s confident demeanor when he had left home two days earlier—the unwavering gaze, the cryptic words.
Lin Tianyang felt a chill.
He now understood: Lin You knew everything. He had abandoned his family’s wealth and status, severing ties with the Lin family. A man with nothing left to lose was truly unstoppable.
But Lin Tianyang also realized that Lin You wasn’t entirely detached. He still cared—for his ailing master, for his younger siblings, and for the girl by his side, who might one day become his ally.
With a newfound resolve, Lin Tianyang thought to himself, I’ll weave my web carefully. Lin You, you’ll always be my stepping stone. From the moment you were born, your fate was sealed.
Feeling Lin You’s gaze, Li Ruochen turned to look in the same direction. She squinted but saw nothing. “What are you looking at?” she asked.
“Just a dog,” Lin You replied coldly.
Lin Tianyang, sensing Lin You’s icy glare, shivered involuntarily. The oppressive feeling was suffocating.
Lin You then called out, “Fatty, let’s go!” He left, taking Fatty, Li Ruochen, and his remaining companions with him, leaving behind a baffled group—Mustache, Tang Sen, Lin Shiyan, and Lin Shengnan.
As Lin You walked away, Lin Shiyan shouted desperately, “Lin You! What are we supposed to do if you leave?”
“It’s none of my business,” Lin You replied without even glancing back.
Lin Shengnan watched her brother’s retreating figure with a complicated expression.
The mustached leader turned to Tang Sen and asked cautiously, “Who is this young man?”
Tang Sen chuckled lightly. “Someone you can’t comprehend, can’t describe, and most importantly, can’t offend.”
“So… what do I do now?” Mustache asked, clearly panicking.
Tang Sen patted Mustache on the face. “That depends on your luck,” he said before walking over to Lin Shengnan, who was bruised and battered. With a meaningful smile, he asked, “Young lady, who was that man just now?”
Lin Shengnan steadied her breathing. “He’s my brother. Why?”
Tang Sen glanced at Lin Shiyan in the distance. “And her?”
“My second sister. I suggest you don’t entertain any ideas about her,” Lin Shengnan replied coolly.
Tang Sen smirked. “A woman with terminal cancer? Not my type. And someone with level-three mental retardation? Even less appealing.” With that, he turned and left, leading his men away in a convoy of roaring Hummers.
Mustache, on the other hand, felt his heart sink. The memory of his men beating Lin You relentlessly for over ten minutes haunted him. Could such an apology truly settle the matter?
Desperate, he ran after Lin You and pleaded, “Master Lin, I know I was impulsive today. I’ll do anything to make amends!”
“What now?” Lin You said impatiently. “You’ve apologized, and we’ve settled things. What else do you want? Haven’t you hit me enough? If you want to hit me again, go ahead!”
Mustache was nearly in tears. “Master Lin, I wouldn’t dare! If you stood on my head and peed, I wouldn’t flinch. If I did, I’d stop being human.”
“Are you short of money?” Mustache offered eagerly. “I’ll give you a million to calm your nerves.”
Lin You sneered. “What, trying to set me up? If I take your money, it’ll be extortion. Do you want me thrown in jail?”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant!” Mustache stammered. “How about this? Let me do something for you. Do you have any enemies? I’ll take care of them for you.”
Lin You finally understood Mustache’s desperation. After a moment of thought, he pointed toward the distant wonton shop. “Soon, a young man about my age, roughly 1.8 meters tall, with thin lips, wearing designer clothes, and accompanied by a beautiful girl, will come running from there.”
Lin You continued, “He’ll definitely shout something like, ‘Sister, I’m here to save you!’ When he does, stop him. Don’t let him get near those two women. Give him a good beating—make it about as rough as what I endured.”
