After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World

Chapter 1281: More Attempts to Enter

Everyone knew by now that the old bombs were great… if they were still a village. The old bombs had limited effects on Level 15s, let alone anyone stronger than that.

It was one of the things focused on in the Research Center during the few weeks they had to prepare for Basset.

Interestingly, bombs that damaged high-level individuals weren't dependent on the scale of damage. They didn't want that either. What if they accidentally created a mini atomic bomb that damaged large areas?

This was co-developed by Eugene, Hoffen, and Althea using the skill she obtained from her Master.

After a certain level, it was aether or aether-related things that could cause true damage, which was why elementalists could handle decent weapons just with their elements.

Similarly… they figured that a bomb with more elements could be the way to cause damage to strong people.

They took a full week of focused study before they could create a prototype and, frankly, the three bombs they sent were such.

They were the only bombs they had of this level, so naturally, they wanted to maximize it. When they found out—using the tower's scope—that powerhouses were gathering at an area near the array, they naturally took advantage of it.

They used ingenious paper balls that their wind elementalists controlled. The bombs were small and light—containing more elements than material things—so it floated along with the ball.

They were lucky that the wind was favorable and they used it to their advantage.

Although the bombs still wouldn't be able to kill most people around level 30, it'd hurt them. At the very least, a few people around level 20 should've perished with such a direct drop.

That should hold them off for a bit longer.

...

Of course, after a while, while the majority of the areas were protected well, there were still several spots more vulnerable than others. While Teng and the others were trying to gain their bearing, there were a few targetted spots decided on by the frontliners.

The enemies took advantage of their numbers and levels to handle the projectiles heading toward them. The main contributors to this were the elementalists who created strong winds and earth walls to shield their 'masters'.

Although there were very few leaks, the Basset mob pushed hard, using their advantages as they could, until weak spots were formed.

For example, in a certain area was assigned to a certain white tiger, a team was hurriedly climbing up using all three methods of entry, stretching out the people guarding the place.

Some—mostly slaves—were focused on handling the battlement guards that remained in the area, while the rest were focused on just getting inside.

To win the war and keep their lives, the citizens getting within the walls was the priority. Whether or not they were being cowardly, they didn't care at all!

However, while a few dozen had managed to get through, the rest of them were greeted by a terrifying shadow that loomed over them.

ROARRR!

His massive form crashed into the ranks of the trespassers who reached the battlements. He kicked them all down, sending them plummeting to the ground below.

The momentum carried him down with them, and when he landed on the soil below, the earth shuddered under his feet.

"Grrr—"

He spun towards the nearest ladder, his muscular arms reaching up to seize it. With a powerful yank, he forcefully caused the structure to buckle almost immediately, sending the climbers tumbling down.

BANG!

Among the people kicked down was a level 30, who immediately lunged towards Baku—though not without ordering a few of the slaves to assist him.

"Slaves! Surround him!" He yelled, voice cracking. The surrounding slaves immediately rushed forward and attached themselves to Baku like leeches, holding on as if their lives depended on it.

And it did.

Roooar!

Baku roared and moved vigorously. A few had to let go, but they would be replaced with another batch, basically covering him.

ROOAAAR!

Baku grabbed the slaves and threw them to the others. He would pry them away and do so, over and over. He would also throw them at the level 30 bastard, especially when he was trying to attack.

Sometimes, the bodies would hit the bastard, but sometimes the man would stab them out of his way!

The man was also very callous about throwing some of the slaves to catch sentry arrows—which had never stopped shooting.

Baku frowned. He wasn't stabbing the slaves, yet their own master was.

He had been in Alterra for a long time and he had been a slave for as far as he could remember. He knew what it felt like; how powerless they were.

Since Alterra didn't explicitly ask him to kill slaves, then he wouldn't—not unless they truly threatened his life. They couldn't even scratch him at this time, how could he raise his claws to take their lives?

Fortunately, because Basset was intent on attacking all parts of the walls until a breach was created, the slaves that surrounded him weren't endless, either.

The level 30 bastard knew this, so he changed his orders.

"ELEMENTALISTS! FOCUS YOUR ATTACKS ON HIM!!" he bellowed, and two of the nearby Terrans turned from shielding the Basset Citizens, to focusing on a single enemy.

There were two Terrans there: one was a fire user, another was a wind user. Half-orcs had strong physiques but, like with everything else, elements could cause a bit of additional damage than normal attacks.

This was limited by the level gap, of course, but they would definitely cause a lot more damage than the non-elementalist slaves.

The two Terrans were both injured, but no more than the others. In fact, none of the shots to them were lethal. They knew it was their brethren's mercy and, frankly, it made their hearts suffer even more.

The two elementalists looked at the half-orc taking a brunt of their best attacks, feeling extremely complicated.

If it was in any other situation, they would've been admiring this creature.

Now…, they were doing their best to hurt it.
