Chapter 166 Departure!_1
Water splashed everywhere.
Su Bei turned around, his face brimming with tears at the sight of this anachronistic item.
How could he describe the excitement of seeing such a heavenly outfit in this particular moment?
It was like seeing Ultraman on Blue Star.
In front of the chilly pond, her silver hair glittered under the glow of the rising sun, the red orb casting a sheen over her shoulders.
Was this even real life?
Surprise filled Mo Li's eyes. Did the slightly tight clothes on her body truly possess such a powerful allure for her Master?
A hint of profundity crossed her gaze. Before Su Bei could respond—or more accurately, before he even considered responding—she wrapped her arms around him and gently began to wipe his back.
HISS—
Su Bei drew a sharp breath, experiencing a delicate tenderness he had never felt before.
"Disciple... what are you..."
Su Bei's scalp tingled. He arched his back, taking a long breath. Then, he looked through the clear water of the chilly pond at Mo Li's exquisite, pale, and transparently white feet.
"Disciple, why do your soles look a bit red? Are you hurt? Stretch them out; let your Master check..."
"..."
Xiao Ruoching yawned softly. Since she was to accompany Su Bei to the Sacred Land today, she had gone to bed early the night before.
With more Spiritual Energy filling her body, Xiao Ruoching felt that it wouldn't be long before she broke through to the Golden Core Realm.
She slipped off her nightgown and gazed at the pre-dawn light outside the window.
Since she was up so early, why not take a bath?
Although there was no one else on No-Sword Peak, after some hesitation, Xiao Ruoching still donned her clothes, tied her long hair into a ponytail, and stepped out of her room to enjoy the cool, refreshing morning breeze.
She heard the sounds around her—the chirping of birds, honking of geese, the rustle of falling snow, the swaying of tree branches, and, from nearby, soft murmurs: "Master, does it feel good?"
Everything was so wonderful!
Xiao Ruoching stretched and suddenly froze. Her mind went blank as she recalled the sounds she had just heard.
Master, does it feel good??
"Mo Li?"
"..."
In an instant, as if understanding something, Xiao Ruoching hurried to the chilly pond, not even bothering to put on her shoes.
Under the dim light, Xiao Ruoching watched the scene in the pond. Her Master and Junior Sister seemed to be enjoying each other's company harmoniously. A sudden surge of bittersweet feeling welled in her heart, leaving her speechless, mist clouding her eyes.
Yet, she felt a slight sense of relief.
She had thought Mo Li had beaten her to it and taken advantage of their Master.
That they were still clothed was a relief; she had scared herself for nothing.
Xiao Ruoching took a deep breath and called out to her distant Master, "Master, what are you doing!"
Mo Li glanced playfully at Xiao Ruoching, who stood in an awkward pose not far away. A mischievous smile touched her lips as she suddenly pressed her whole body against Su Bei's back.
Her silver hair soaked in the water, her eyes full of challenge.
Seeing this, Xiao Ruoching bit her lower lip, her eyes shimmering with embarrassed anger, and said, "Junior Sister, what are you doing?"
"Get off Master immediately! That's completely inappropriate!"
But Mo Li made no move. Hugging Su Bei's back and licking her crimson lips, her narrow eyes squinted as she said with a hint of a smirk, "Elder Sister, Junior Sister is cultivating. What dirty thoughts are you entertaining?"
As she spoke, a blush crept up her ears; Su Bei was holding her small foot.
Xiao Ruoching's chest heaved with anger. She pointed a finger at Mo Li and snapped, "You... you're still trying to argue!"
Su Bei blinked. Seeing Xiao Ruoching's aggrieved expression, he quickly said, "Disciple, we are indeed cultivating!"
Cultivating?
Xiao Ruoching looked at the scene with a puzzled expression, her cheeks reddening further as she said with growing frustration, "Master... you're also helping Junior Sister deceive me."
Her gaze drifted to the dark blue clothes on Mo Li, and she suddenly seemed to recall owning a similar garment herself.
Could they really be cultivating? she wondered with a trace of skepticism.
Her heart was increasingly convinced, yet her pride prevented her from admitting it. Looking down, she muttered, "I'm sorry. Perhaps I came at the wrong time."
Su Bei looked at Xiao Ruoching, the early morning sunlight casting a radiant glow on her face, and said seriously, "No, Disciple, you arrived at just the right time!"
The morning sun, carrying a hint of chill, poured down from the sky, enveloping the entire Sword Sect.
The Sword Sect was bustling early today.
The Sword Sect Disciples were all raring to go, rubbing their hands in anticipation of the imminent opening ceremony of the Twenty-One Provinces, each eager.
Han Baiyu Square was already swarming with people, a dense wave of heads moving like the tide.
Every pair of eyes was filled with fervent anticipation; the day had finally arrived. Compared to previous ceremonies, this one, with the addition of the Ascension Platform, felt more important to the disciples—almost as significant as the great contest among the disciples of the Twenty-One Provinces that would follow!
Discussions could be heard everywhere:
"Today we journey to the Sacred Land. I wonder which Sect will be the most dazzling in this year's opening ceremony!"
"Although I'm reluctant to admit it, it'll probably be Wudao Mouth or Wuhua Palace... They've always done quite well."
"Hasn't Elder Su been training those hundred disciples? Maybe this year's ceremony will be different?"
A disciple shook his head gently, his gaze contemplative as he looked towards the distant No-Sword Peak, and sighed, "Do you really think Elder Su can train them into anything remarkable? Don't you understand Elder Su's intentions? He's simply kind-hearted. Surely, no one actually believes that group will produce anything stunning."
Perhaps because of Su Bei's act of kindness, the disciple ultimately refrained from uttering the words "cripples and dregs."
The crowd fell silent. Although the disciple's words were harsh, they were incredibly objective.
The Sword Maiden and a group of disciples stood in a corner, listening. Their small hands tightly gripped their skirts, and they bit their lower lips without speaking.
They felt powerless to argue. In the Twenty-One Provinces, that was the reality. Meeting someone as gentle as Elder Su was already the luck of their lifetime.
Even though the Emperor of the Dongfeng Ancient Country had fostered closer integration between Immortals and mortals over the years, in the eyes of the Cultivators of the Twenty-One Provinces, strength was always the sole measure of one's status.
Mortals were merely ants with an extra mouth.
"That's still much better than the old tradition of stabbing the sky with a sword."
"At least it's a dance!"
A disciple scoffed.
Upon hearing this, the group of disciples started laughing, their gazes collectively shifting towards Sword Peak not far off.
"This time at the Ascension Platform, Elder Xi will probably represent the Sword Sect if nothing unexpected happens."
"Not just Elder Xi; Elder Mo and Elder Li should also participate. Their cultivation realms are all above the Late Stage of Refining Void!"
"This Ascension Platform is too restrictive, open only to those below the Dao Integration Realm. Elder Xi is said to have broken through to the Half-Step into Dao Integration Realm while meditating on Broken Sword Cliff. He should be able to secure the title of 'Number One Sect in the World' for the Sword Sect..."
"Not necessarily. I've heard that Elder Tong Xi of Wudao Mouth has specially emerged from seclusion for this competition."
"And there's Elder Lin Duo of Wuhua Palace, as well as Elder Bo Jieyi of Cang Jing Sect..."
The group of disciples fell silent.
These Elders, each one, had been immersed in the Half-Step into Dao Integration Realm for hundreds of years. It wasn't that they couldn't break through to the Dao Integration Realm; they simply wanted to push their cultivation to its absolute limit.
The Sword Sect's Great Elder was in the Mid Stage Dao Integration Realm. Besides him, the Second Elder had only just entered Half-Step into Dao Integration, the Third Elder was at Peak Refining Void, and the Fourth Elder was merely at the Late Stage of Refining Void.
Amid the discussions, a sudden whooshing sound split the air. Instantly, several figures descended onto the Elder's Platform.
Wenren Pingxin glanced around, counting the assembled Sword Sect Elders, her eyebrows knitting slightly as she murmured, "One, two... seven."
"Hmm? Su Bei isn't here?"
Where could he have gone on such an important occasion?
Just then, another streak of light flashed across the sky. A man carrying a sword, looking utterly calm and composed, slowly materialized on the Elder's Platform.
An exclamation immediately erupted from below, "It's Elder Su!!"
Light shone on Su Bei, reflecting off his still-damp hair.
Seeing Su Bei's appearance, Wenren Pingxin's expression was odd. However, since he wasn't late, she couldn't very well reprimand him. She turned back to face the Sword Sect Disciples.
Xi Qingyi glanced indifferently at Su Bei and snorted coldly before turning away, closing her eyes to circulate the Spiritual Energy within her body.
Su Bei greeted his fellow Sword Sect Elders with a beaming smile. Noticing Jun Wuxie patting the wine gourd at his waist with an expectant look, Su Bei approached him and took a jar of wine from his storage ring, handing it over.
"You old drunkard, make it last. This is the final jar!"
Fourth Elder Li Ziyu frowned as he looked at Su Bei, a flicker of darkness in his eyes.
Mo Xingjian rubbed his large hands together and licked his somewhat dry lips. He was still coveting Su Bei's First Grade Creation Pills. He knew Su Bei had a few left, but with so many people around, it wasn't appropriate to ask. He could only offer Su Bei a smile.
Su Bei inwardly heaved a sigh of relief; he had made it just in time. He'd been enjoying the spring with his two disciples—who had nearly come to blows over him—so much that he'd completely lost track of time.
Wenren Pingxin's gaze turned sharp as she looked over the Sword Sect Disciples. The buzzing from below ceased immediately, and everyone looked up at the Elder's Platform solemnly.
Su Bei, too, adopted a dignified stance, hands clasped behind his back, looking eminently respectable as he observed the disciples below.
"As you all know, today we set off for the Sacred Land! This opening ceremony is unlike any before, as the Saintess herself has established the Ascension Platform!"
"From this recruitment assembly, the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, and Ninth Elders will accompany me, the Acting Sect Leader. This is an unmissable opportunity for the Sword Sect to attract more disciples!"
"The remaining two Elders will stay to guard the Sect."
"The disciples whose names I call will accompany us to the opening ceremony: Niu Lan Mountain, Mo Youqian, Niu Dazhuang..."
Wenren Pingxin's voice rang in the ears of the disciples, all of whom listened with rapt attention.
Countless disciples looked up, their eyes fixed on the Elder's Platform, a fervent hope slowly building in their gazes as they wished for their names to be called.
"Very well! That concludes the list of those selected to attend!"
"All those whose names were called, prepare to depart!"
