Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The Weight of Destiny
Vincent couldn't remember the last time he'd felt this lost. The power that surged through him—the hunger that gnawed at his insides—was becoming impossible to ignore. But it was more than just the physical transformation. It was as if his entire being was being torn apart, pulled in two different directions, each more powerful than the last.
The full moon, now high in the sky, cast an ethereal glow on the forest as Vincent stood at its edge. He could hear the distant rustle of leaves, the faint howls of wolves, and even the soft whisper of the wind as it brushed past his skin. Every sound was heightened, every movement magnified. His senses were on overdrive, the world around him alive with energy.
But something was wrong.
He was fighting it—fighting the pull to let go, to embrace whatever this… this power was. He had to control it, had to keep it buried. Emily didn't know about the dangers. She couldn't.
As his mind spun with uncertainty, his phone buzzed in his pocket.
It was a message from his parents.
"Come home, Vincent. We need to talk."
His heart raced. It was late, and they never reached out to him like this unless something was wrong.
He didn't hesitate. Vincent turned and sprinted back toward the house, the wind whipping past him as he ran faster than he'd ever run before. It was like his legs were propelled by something more—his vampire side already stretching to break free.
When he arrived at the house, both his parents were waiting in the living room. Andrew and Layla Tommy sat side by side, their faces grim, their eyes full of a sorrow Vincent had never seen before.
"Sit down, Kristof," Andrew said, his voice unusually soft, almost distant.
For the first time in his life, Vincent obeyed without question. He sat across from them, his heart racing in anticipation of what was to come.
Layla's voice was gentle but firm. "Vincent, we've kept things from you. Things that you need to know."
Andrew's gaze hardened, and he sighed. "You're not just a vampire or a werewolf, Vincent. You're a hybrid—one that is destined to lead both sides. That's why the dark forces are hunting you. Why we've kept you hidden all these years. And why you've felt… different."
Vincent's mind reeled. "But… I don't understand. What does that mean for me? And why do I feel like this? I can't control it."
Andrew leaned forward, his voice dark. "When a hybrid like you awakens, there's only one way for you to fully embrace both sides. You must die to awaken your vampire powers. Your body needs to shed its old self to fully become what you were born to be."
Vincent felt a chill run down his spine. "Die? You're telling me I have to die?"
Layla nodded, her eyes filled with sadness. "Yes, Vincent. But it's not as simple as just dying. You must mark your mate—Emily—by biting her. When you do, your werewolf side will awaken, and your full power will be unlocked. But… there's a danger."
Vincent's chest tightened. "What kind of danger?"
Andrew's eyes darkened. "If you bite her, Emily will either become a werewolf or a vampire—depending on which side you awaken first. If she becomes a werewolf, she will be your omega. If she becomes a vampire, she will have the same power you do."
Vincent's mind swirled with confusion. "But… what if she doesn't want that? What if she doesn't want to become part of this world?"
Layla looked away, her expression torn. "That's something only Emily can decide. But no matter what, she's tied to your fate. You must protect her at all costs. If the dark forces capture her before you mark her, they will kill her, and you will never reach your full potential."
Vincent felt the weight of his parents' words sink into his bones. His heart pounded in his chest. He'd never felt so much responsibility before. And yet, the pull of destiny was undeniable.
"So… I have to die. And then, when I bite Emily… she could become a werewolf or a vampire. And either way, she'll be bound to me?"
Andrew nodded. "Yes. And once you mark her, the dark forces will come for you both. They won't stop until they destroy you. You'll have to fight for everything you care about, Vincent. Your life, your love, your power. All of it."
Vincent stood up abruptly, his fists clenched. "I can't let them have Emily. I won't. I'll do whatever it takes to protect her. Even if it means facing the dark forces head-on."
His parents exchanged a look. They had known this day would come. But they also knew that the journey ahead would be anything but easy.
Layla stood and placed a hand on his shoulder. "You are the future, Vincent. You are the Alpha of both worlds. You have the strength to lead, but remember—your greatest challenge is the one that lies in your heart."
Vincent nodded, determination blazing in his eyes. "I won't fail. I'll protect Emily, and I'll fight whatever I have to."
But deep down, Vincent knew that his battle was just beginning. The dark forces were closing in, and time was running out.
