Am I The Only Male Tenant Here?

Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Mochizuki Haruka

"The hell do you think you're doing, huh?!"

I tightened my grip around the creep's bony wrist, twisting just enough to make him yelp.

"L-Let go of me! What do you think you're—"

Oh? Still trying to put up a front, even though he was a full head shorter than me and sweating like a pig at a yakiniku grill? Tch. Gross.

Smack!

My hand moved before my brain did. His cheek turned red instantly.

"You...you bastard! You think you can—"

Smack!

Another. This one shut him up. He staggered back with his tail between his legs.

"B-Bro, I'm sorry! I-I won't do it again, I swear!"

He looked like he was about to drop to his knees if I wasn't still gripping his wrist like a vice.

Of course, all the commotion drew the eyes of everyone around us. Whispered murmurs filled the train.

"What happened?"

"Did someone say harassment?"

"That guy in the uniform… did he do something?"

Phones started coming out, cameras clicking. Ugh. The last thing I needed was to go viral as that guy.

But before I could clear things up—

Ding!

The train doors opened. Perfect timing. Like the filthy little cockroach he was, the creep twisted out of my grip and bolted.

"Tch... Figures. Rats are always good at running."

Letting out a sigh, I glanced around at the people now staring at me. But I didn't care. My eyes drifted back to the girl standing silently beside me.

She was still trembling.

Her rosy lips were pressed tightly together. Her pale fingers clenched the hem of her skirt like it was a lifeline. Eyes glossy, unsure, lost.

She looked like she wanted to vanish.

I wanted to say something—anything—but the station announcement cut through the silence. It was my stop.

So I stepped off the train and into the crowd, hoping she'd be okay.

"Wait! P-Please wait!!"

The breathless voice came from behind just as I passed the gate. I turned instinctively.

There she was.

The girl from before, rushing after me with uneven steps, her chest rising and falling as she struggled to catch up.

"Hahh... Hahh... Thank goodness... I made it."

She bent over, hands on her knees, catching her breath—and unintentionally offering me a very clear view of her spectacular cleavage.

...Seriously. Huge.

"O-Oh, sorry!" I turned away and coughed.

She stood straight, brushing her hair behind her ear. Her long black hair shimmered in the setting sun. Her makeup was minimal, maybe just lip gloss and a touch of eyeliner. That effortless, natural kind of beauty.

The kind that makes your chest tighten for no good reason.

Her tight university uniform clung to her curves, and that figure... it was practically criminal.

But what really stood out wasn't just her looks. There was a quiet maturity in her presence—a certain composure. She wasn't like the bubbly campus types. There was something... womanly about her.

"Um... Th-thank you. Really. For what you did."

Her voice was soft, trembling just a bit.

"I-I didn't know what to do. I was so scared. If you hadn't stepped in... I don't even want to think about it."

She bowed deeply.

"And I'm sorry. I caused you trouble..."

Why do girls always apologize when someone else wrongs them?

"Don't worry about it. It wasn't a big deal."

She looked up, her lips curling into a smile. Her eyes shimmered with warmth.

"Still... thank you. So much."

We stood in silence after that, until I gave a small nod and turned to walk away.

Or tried to.

Ten steps later, I felt a presence behind me. I glanced back. Sure enough, she was following me, trailing about ten meters behind.

She stopped when our eyes met.

Was she... stalking me?

"U-Um! Actually, my place is in this direction too..."

She ran up beside me, her cheeks bright red.

"Ah, I see. Let's walk together, then."

"O-Okay..."

We strolled in awkward silence. Her hand nervously brushed her hair back again and again. Every few seconds, I caught her sneaking glances at me.

Do I have something on my face...?

"My name is Ginjo Sosuke," I said, trying to break the ice. "Just moved to Tokyo. I live up ahead in Kitabashichou."

"Ah…! I'm Haruka. Mochizuki Haruka."

She stumbled over her words and then let out a little embarrassed laugh.

"Haha... I mean... I also live around there."

She looked so nervous her voice was an octave higher than before with a bright red face.

Silence again.

Then, in a whisper so soft I almost missed it:

"Um... if you don't mind... could I maybe have your contact info...?"

I smiled.

"Of course."

We exchanged LINE IDs.

"I-I want to thank you properly later... if that's okay."

"It's okay. Really. Don't stress over it."

Two blocks later, she stopped.

"This is me, Ginjo-kun. I'll message you later, okay?"

"I'll be waiting."

She waved as I walked off, a bright, beautiful smile lighting up her face.

The sun was already dipping behind the buildings, casting a warm orange hue over the quiet street.

The breeze carried the scent of early summer, and somewhere a bird chirped softly.

And yet, something itched at the back of my brain...

That intersection she turned at... wasn't that area mostly izakayas and karaoke bars?

Did she really live there...?

I scratched my cheek.

"...Nah. Probably just unfamiliar with the area. I only moved in two days ago, after all."

But still—

Mochizuki Haruka, huh...?

Something about that girl felt like I hadn't seen the last of her.
