Chapter 582: 209. Atlantic City will enter the era of Donnie

Coshek Kevin announced his resignation due to culpability! When everything became irreparable, Coshek Kevin's fate was sealed, and he could no longer stay at the IRS. Had it not been for some who did not wish him to reveal more secrets, it's likely that by this time Coshek Kevin would have been taken away by the Bureau of Investigation! The media, which had been closely following the issue, also changed their reporting direction at the first opportunity, focusing on Coshek Kevin's personal character and no longer mentioning the IRS. It would be impossible to claim that no one had spoken behind the scenes. As the scapegoat for this matter, Bixir Mendy was summoned to Congress and was severely reprimanded behind closed doors by the Speaker. Understanding his own situation, Bixir Mendy made no defense and silently endured the pain that shouldn't have been his to bear. Meanwhile, the role that Michael Ribeiro played in this event was also observed by many and likewise resulted in a summons from the Speaker. Unlike Bixir Mendy's stormy encounter, Michael Ribeiro was on the benefiting side of this situation. It was now rumoured within the IRS that Michael Ribeiro would replace their director this year and become the next chief of the IRS. These were all events occurring in Washington, but there was another scene altogether on Donnie's end. Rene Mel arrived at the Surf Hotel and met with Donnie. At this moment, facing Donnie, Rene Mel felt an overwhelming fear within. Even though he had long since sided with Donnie, the sight of Donnie effortlessly bringing down someone about to become the chief of the IRS still filled him with fear. This man is too powerful! "Mr. Block, we've received orders from our superiors to prepare to withdraw from Atlantic City!" Rene Mel was here to bid farewell to Donnie. "How's it going? Did the IRS have anything to say about your actions?" Donnie didn't care about what Rene Mel was thinking at the moment. He was quite happy now, having dealt with Coshek Kevin and with Michael Ribeiro about to take up the position of IRS chief. He would have greater influence within the IRS; everything was heading in a favorable direction, so he had every reason to be happy! Rene Mel expressed his gratitude, "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Block. The IRS did not object to our actions, and thankfully Archido... oh, Archido Bowen, the one who came with me to investigate you, Mr. Block, has found some people wanting to accuse you. He managed to recover a lot of losses for our group!" While speaking, Rene Mel handed over a list to Donnie, saying, "This is the list Archido has been investigating, it's just..." At this point, Rene Mel hesitated but spoke up, "Mr. Block, Archido was just following orders. I hope you won't take his actions to heart." Donnie laughed and said, "Don't worry, I understand that he was just following orders, and I won't stoop to the level of dealing with such small fry!" "If that's the case, then that's great!" Rene Mel visibly breathed a sigh of relief and then said, "Mr. Block, we will be leaving tomorrow. Is there anything else you need from me?" Donnie replied, "I should send you off, but you know our relationship, so let's skip the farewells. If you need anything in the future, I'll have someone contact you!" "Alright, then I'll take my leave now!" Rene Mel knew as long as he remained a day longer at the IRS, he wouldn't be able to break free from Donnie's control. Yet, for him, the situation was now acceptable; it was like having an extra job with an extra source of unreported income, which actually wasn't bad. After Rene Mel left, Archido Bowen walked out of the bedroom. "It seems your superior takes good care of you!" Donnie said with a smile. Archido Bowen replied, "It's because of what you've done for me that he looks after me!" Donnie nodded in satisfaction and said, "However, with him going back, he's likely to lie low for a while, so you should be prepared!" That Rene Mel had been dispatched to Atlantic City by Coshek Kevin indicated that he was a talent highly valued by Coshek Kevin. Now, with Coshek Kevin's downfall at the IRS, Rene Mel had lost his most significant backing at the IRS, which would inevitably impact his career there. As Archido Bowen was his direct subordinate, he naturally would be affected as well! Thus, to avoid such a situation, Donnie had prepared a gift for Archido Bowen: evidence of tax evasion by a family in Silver Spring, a city near Washington. That was one of the benefits of Donnie forming the Family Alliance in the United States. Each member had rivals in their own cities, and their income mostly came from illicit gains. Evading taxes was naturally one of their key means to wealth. Investigating these individuals, the members of the Family Alliance were much more efficient than the IRS staff. Grateful, Archido Bowen said, "Thank you, boss. However, I think there's no need to rush this. It might be better to lie low for a while, and once the impact of this situation has subsided, then I can present the information you've given me!" Donnie didn't express his own opinion but just said, "You handle it as you see fit!"
