Chapter 358: Promise_2
In the car, Manson, who was driving, asked cautiously,
"I wouldn't make this guarantee if I wasn't confident."
"Alright..."
Although he still had doubts, seeing that David had no intention of going into detail, Manson tactfully did not press further with questions.
In a mid-tier community called 'Moore' in the West District of Tallahassee,
Manson's vehicle entered and stopped at a European-style house.
David then got out of the car and went to the front door to ring the doorbell.
The door was quickly opened.
A young woman, about 20 years old, appeared at the door, but upon seeing that the visitor was David, she was just as shocked as Senator Raglen's wife had been earlier.
"We're here to see Senator Alchebi, is he home?"
Florida has two senators. David had already dealt with one, and now it was time for the last one.
Once both senators were handled, dealing with the Congressman from the state would be much simpler.
The young woman didn't answer; instead, she turned stiffly to look towards the living room behind her and called out, "Dad, Inspector David from the Internal Revenue Service is here to see you."
"Let him in!"
"Please, come in!"
David and his companions did not stand on ceremony; they stepped into the house.
Inside the living room, a man with somewhat thick eyebrows was sitting on the sofa with a woman.
Upon the arrival of David and his companions, the woman managed to remain composed, stood up, and asked, "Chief Inspector Director David, would you like anything to drink?"
"Just a glass of water will do, thank you."
"Alright."
The woman went off to the side.
"Director David, it's truly fortunate that you are safe."
Senator Archerbi also stood up, shook hands with David and his companions in greeting, and then asked, "I'm wondering, Chief Inspector David, what brings you to me?"
"Senator Archerbi, the purpose of my visit today is to discuss a matter with you."
This senator, funded by the Kennedy Family in his campaign, had, like Raglen, sought a new path after witnessing the death of David and the impending disaster facing the Kennedy Family; however, he didn't turn to Freemasonry but rather sided with the Ansa Group.
"What matter?"
David first activated 'Golden Finger' to scrutinize the man, and then, without further hesitation, said, "The thing is, I plan to..."
David repeated almost verbatim to Senator Archerbi what he had told Raglen before.
After hearing that David's reason for seeking him out was not because he had sided with the Ansa Group but to promote such legislation, Archerbi's heart was immediately thrown into a storm.
After some time passed, he calmed down and looked at David, "Chief Inspector David, I must say your idea is very bold, but such boldness might be your undoing!"
"I'm not afraid. Are you afraid, Senator Archerbi?"
"Of course I'm afraid. Such legislation is no joke. If it starts to gain traction, Heaven knows how many people would want me dead. I'm not interested."
Archerbi did not hide his thoughts. He openly expressed his concerns and emphatically waved it off.
"Don't be so hasty to refuse, Senator Archerbi. Take a look at this first!"
David then took out some documents and placed them in front of him.
After some hesitation, Archerbi finally took them and started to read, but soon, he displayed the same shock that Raglen had before.
"What does this mean?"
"The midterm elections are about to begin, and this is a little gift from me to you, Senator Archerbi, in hopes that you can successfully win re-election!"
"I must admit, your gift is indeed appealing to me, but I'm afraid that the price I'll have to pay afterward could be much greater!"

Although he knew that the dirt on his competitors provided by David was useful, he was no fool. Taking it would definitively mean having to do a favor for David in return.
"Senator Archerbi, I think Senator Raglen would not agree with you on that!"
"What, you've spoken to Raglen?"
Archerbi's eyes bulged wide open, his face a picture of disbelief.
"Yes, I've just come from his house."
Archerbi's face darkened, because from the tone of David's voice he had discerned that the offer given to Raglen was probably the same, and it seemed that Raglen had accepted!
"Senator Archerbi, I know you've been working hard to promote a 'Relief Fund Bill' in Florida. If you stand by my side and get this bill passed for me, I guarantee that your bill will also definitely be approved. Then, you will fulfill the great expectations the folks back home have laid upon you and you'll also gain immense prestige!" David said, looking at Archerbi.
Archerbi locked eyes with David as well, and it wasn't until a full minute had passed that he said, "If I refuse, would you provide my competitors with my dirt?"
"Senator Archerbi, I come today with sincerity to discuss this matter with you. If you agree, I assure you that you won't be harmed or put at a disadvantage. But if you refuse, then I don't think you need to hold on to the senator's seat any longer. It's better to let someone more capable take over." David's words were a clear mix of the carrot and the stick.
At this moment, however, Archerbi's fists clenched tightly. If David could get his competitors' dirt, not believing he could get his own was fooling himself.
Moreover, were it any normal time, it wouldn't be as critical, but now, in the key moment of the midterm elections, even a minor negative news story could be devastating.
After much thought, Archerbi ultimately did not dare to express further refusal, instead, he pivoted, saying, "While you've provided these materials to me, if those Angsa people find out I've sided with you, they might intervene, and I might not be able to count on a sure win for re-election."
For a congressman, political resources and campaign financing are most crucial.
If he dared to stand with David, with the strength of those Angsa folks, there would surely be numerous ways for them to interfere with his campaign.
"I've already told Senator Raglen, as long as he agrees to assist me, I'm utterly confident that he can get re-elected. He can even become the next Leigh if he wishes. Now, I extend the same offer to you, Senator Archerbi!"
Hearing David's confident words, Archerbi was stunned once more.
To become the next Leigh?
That was a bold statement.
Had it come from anyone else, he naturally wouldn't have believed it.
But coming from David, it certainly warranted consideration.
After all, Chief Inspector David had a remarkable reputation for taking down others, even managing to obtain his opponents' dirt.
If he wanted to run for office in the future,
as long as Chief Inspector David could continue to acquire dirt on his rivals, theoretically his seat as a senator could indeed be secure.
But…
The Internal Revenue Service is, after all, a national institution. If they were to support his campaign, they would need more than just clandestine maneuvers; campaign finance was essential.
But it was clear that the Tax Bureau could not provide that money openly.
So, what did Chief Inspector David plan to do about that?
Thinking this, Archerbi couldn't help but ask, "Chief Inspector David, about the campaign finances, how do you plan to resolve that?"
"Quite simple, I will act as the peacemaker, and you'll mend your relationship with the Kennedy Family!"
"Alright then, I only have one last question. Just having me and Raglen isn't enough for your bill. If you can get more congressmen on board and actually get it drafted and passed through the House of Congress vote, then when it comes to the Senate, there really wouldn't be anything wrong with casting my vote for you!"
