Chapter 420: Chapter 420: Daily Affairs

The big boss was actually aware that the guy in front of him had recently been entangled with a notorious character who, despite a shady reputation, had quite a bit of money. When Gavin came crying to him for help that afternoon, he also learned that the reason why William Bracken had sent a hitman to take Gavin out was because the latter was facing a federal investigation. Gavin knew that William Bracken had deep ties with someone named Vincent Adler, which triggered Senator Bracken's decision to eliminate Gavin.

From the perspective of this particular boss, while Gavin might be a bit stupid and greedy, he also had incredible luck. Somehow, in what seemed like a doomed situation, Gavin managed to find a glimmer of hope. This guy had actually been abandoned by him and the other big bosses, given that the evidence presented by the FBI and the Department of Justice was solid, and Congress had already approved a federal investigation into Gavin.

Who would have thought that this guy could make such a comeback? Just this afternoon, they had decided to give up on him, and by the evening, he was standing in front of them with evidence that could take down the opposition party's star candidate, William Bracken. The boss was conflicted—this was the best opportunity to destroy the carefully groomed star candidate of the opposing party. If the recording he had just heard were to be released, not only would William Bracken lose all hope of running for president, but he would also be forced to step down due to the scandal. This wasn't just a simple matter; it would directly impact the entire political landscape of the country.

Therefore, Gavin, who had delivered such a significant contribution, could no longer be abandoned as previously planned. Especially since the crucial witness was still in Gavin's hands, protecting him became imperative.

Compared to trying to protect Gavin during or after the upcoming investigation by the FBI and the Department of Justice, it was clearly more cost-effective to keep Gavin safe now and use the evidence and witness he had to take down the opposition's star candidate. Moreover, Gavin's dealings with Vincent were mainly for money, without any other illegal activities. So, with the support of their party, even if Gavin lost his position as a congressman, he could still be well compensated. After all, the evidence he held was a powerful bomb that could destroy William Bracken, the opposition's most promising presidential candidate, thereby significantly boosting their own candidate's chances.

After much contemplation, the boss finally made up his mind to protect Gavin. After kindly persuading Gavin to leave, he went straight to his study to inform his party's top figures about the explosive news, so they could discuss how to best utilize it to eliminate their opponent, William Bracken.

Gavin, having received a personal guarantee from his party's big boss that he would be protected and compensated even if he were eventually found guilty by the FBI, the DOJ, and the Supreme Court, left the boss's residence with a smile. Returning to his heavily guarded home, he made sure his men were closely watching Nick Cunan, who was now absolutely critical to keep alive, and finally let out a long sigh of relief once he was back in his study.

But soon, a fierce expression appeared on his face. "William Bracken, you bastard, let's see how much longer you can remain arrogant..."

Early the next morning, Castle got up to make breakfast for the two women in his life, whom he wouldn't dare to provoke. He made tofu pudding and fried dough sticks, something completely different from a typical American breakfast, which earned high praise from both his daughter and girlfriend. However, as a fan of savory flavors, Castle was somewhat bothered by the fact that both his daughter and girlfriend liked their tofu pudding sweet. Although he silently grumbled that sweet tofu pudding lovers were heretics, he dared not voice his complaints under his girlfriend's stern gaze. All he could do was force a smile as he watched the two beauties enjoy their breakfast.

After Alexis left for school, Castle sat down seriously in front of Beckett and said, "Give me one more day to gather the latest intelligence on the situation, and then I think we'll have a good opportunity to arrest Vulcan Simmons. It should be tomorrow or the day after when we can take action. Also, those four dirty cops in the NYPD—you can talk to Internal Affairs today. Based on the information I've gathered, William Bracken probably doesn't have the time or energy to look out for those four right now. So, once I confirm certain details today, we can begin."

Beckett elegantly wiped her mouth after finishing the last bite of tofu pudding with honey and said, "I trust you. I'll head to the precinct now. To deal with those guys properly, I'll need to talk to the District Attorney's office later as well. Keep me updated when you get more information."

After seeing Beckett off, Castle cleaned up the table and then set out to pick up Mozzie from Brooklyn to head to Long Island. When he called Mozzie, Castle hadn't noticed anything unusual, but once Mozzie got into the car, Castle, always sensitive, immediately noticed something was off about him.

"What's up? Where's Neal? Did that guy really head to the West Coast to find Kate and then fly off to the Bahamas without even saying goodbye to me?"

Castle joked with Mozzie while driving.

Mozzie gave Castle, who was always cheerful and seemed carefree, a complicated look. He couldn't understand how this guy managed to maintain such a positive attitude, especially when he was currently plotting against both a sitting senator and a congressman. Mozzie himself had felt heavy-hearted when he first learned that Neal's enemy was another New York State congressman. He even found it somewhat ridiculous—did his group have some sort of curse against senators? Castle hadn't even dealt with his situation yet, and now there was another one?

"Rick, Neal has run into a very complicated situation. He's gone to Rhode Island now. He told me not to mention it to you because you're already dealing with a senator, and he doesn't want to distract you."

Mozzie's tone was strange, but Castle picked up on the subtle clue in his words.

"Mozzie, are you trying to tell me that Neal has found another enemy?"

Castle had a suspicion about what Neal was up to. Because of his involvement, Neal was no longer the same person from the TV show "White Collar," who was constantly playing cat-and-mouse with Peter Burke. With Vincent's appearance, Neal had already received a pardon and was now a free man. So, had Neal learned about his own past and the fact that his father had been framed?

Castle decided not to press Mozzie for more details. Since Mozzie said Neal would explain everything after returning from Rhode Island, there was no need to push for answers now. Besides, Castle and Mozzie had more pressing matters to deal with, like preparing for the upcoming negotiations with Northrop Grumman. They needed to use the drone designs and the semi-intelligent flight control system as leverage to secure a small portion of Cat Factory's shares. Mozzie, with his legal expertise, would be Castle's most important ally in this, while Castle would serve as the technical advisor.

This task was just as important as Castle and Beckett's secret plan against Senator William Bracken. If Castle could secure a small share in Northrop Grumman through his drone design, it would be like grabbing onto a very thick leg of support. Castle had even decided that as long as they agreed, he would accept a small share.

Another thing to consider was that this drone was based on the design from the Marvel universe's Stark Industries military model. It was not the same as the small, makeshift drones that Castle had tinkered with. So, Castle had already planned that if Northrop Grumman agreed to his terms and offered him a small share, he would work with their engineers to quickly produce a prototype.

Castle had a lot of confidence in the drone, which resembled the Quinjet used by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel universe. After all, the embedded small turboprop engine used in this drone was something that didn't exist in this world. Moreover, with the engine being embedded and the wings being short and bent downward, the drone's radar cross-section was already small. Add a bit of stealth coating, and the drone would immediately qualify as a radar-invisible UAV. This would be Northrop Grumman's best way to defeat their competitor, General Atomics, in the bid for the next-generation UAV for the U.S. military.

It was General Atomics' appreciation of this drone's capabilities that led their engineers to notice it flying around New York undetected by radar during a test flight, prompting them to send people to kidnap the chubby controller...
