Chapter 128: Chapter 252 - Hide and Seek
Jay-Jay's POV
"Damn it!" I complained, trying to pull my hand away. "...Your nails hurt!"
"You walk like a tortoise—so slow!" Honey said, annoyed.
She kept dragging me along. And in high heels, no less. If I were in the mood right now, I'd hit her. We just finished dealing with Ulupong's drama, and I'm still feeling heavy.
We arrived outside the school, where her car was parked. Kuya Angelo is going to think I skipped class. How am I supposed to explain that I got swept away by a bee?
"Get in!" She ordered, stopping in front of her car.
Wawawiwow. A Ferrari.
As soon as she let go of my wrist, I grabbed it, wincing. Her grip was way too tight—I could feel the pain down to my bones! That girl is seriously mad at me.
"Why did you have to bring me along? You should've brought Felix instead," I grumbled.
She was still dragging me, and I hadn't even answered her question about Felix. Honestly, I had no idea where that good man was.
"Are you dumb or what? Obviously, it's because you're his stepsister," she snapped.
Wow. Insulted.
One of my hands fluttered in the air, while the other mimicked her exaggerated hand gestures, as if I had long claws ready to scratch someone.
"Obviously, you're the dumb one," I shot back, flipping my hand in the air. "...Felix is at home with him, so you could've dragged him along instead."
"Ew. Don't copy me," she said, raising an eyebrow. "I can't bring Felix."
I dropped my hand to my waist and smacked my forehead with the other. This guy is so stubborn. He and Freya are a perfect match.
"Why not?"
"Because we have a past."
I raised an eyebrow. "You two dated?"
"No!" She answered quickly. "I flirted with him, but we never got together. It was... one of those things."
I nodded as if I believed her, but honestly, I didn't. She couldn't even look me in the eye, and she seemed tense—completely different from earlier.
I smelled something... It smelled like—
"Eww... Did you just fart?" I asked, covering my nose.
She shot me a glare. "Hell no!"
I looked around. No dogs. No trash. No animal waste. I turned back to Honey and noticed the sweat forming on her forehead.
A mischievous grin spread across my face. "You're the one who farted, aren't you?"
"N-no! Stop it!"
I smirked even more. "Alright, then. If you didn't fart, touch your ear." I reached out and placed my hand on her ear. "...They say if your ears are cold, you farted."
She immediately jerked her ear away from me and smacked my hand, making me wince.
"What the fuck?! Just get in the car! You're pissing me off."
I stuck my tongue out at her but climbed into her fancy car anyway. Sheeeeet! Just sitting in this feels like power. I need a car like this one day.
She got in and started the engine, gripping the steering wheel so tightly it looked like she was about to take off.
"What's with this traffic? London isn't this bad," she muttered in frustration.
I immediately turned to look at her. Did she just say London? Wait... Does that mean...?
"You're from London?" I asked.
She glanced at me briefly before focusing back on the road.
"Yeah. I am," she answered, sounding bored.
"M-meaning... are you and K-Kiefer... together?" I asked hesitantly.
I wanted to take back what I said. I really didn't want to know. I had a different hunch about her answer. But a big part of me still wanted to hear what she had to say.
"Y-yes," she answered, and my chest immediately felt heavy.
You're a bitch!
I'm telling you! That animal has no shame. That's why I can tolerate that gago. That's why! You are Judas! You are Herod's brother! You're crazy! Pisti!
"…but please don't tell him that I admitted it to you! He will kill me!" she added, making me freeze.
I looked at her, though I could already imagine him pulling her long hair and hitting her face against the steering wheel.
"W-what the…?"
"Yes, I'm with him in London, but it's because of my job," she explained while glancing at me occasionally. "He's my boss."
I blinked at her words. Keifer is her boss? He's just an employee? And here I thought there was something miraculous going on between them.
"Wait! Stop! Explain properly!" I demanded in frustration.
"Ugh! I can't believe I have to do this!" she complained, but she still pulled over to the side of the road.
"Explain properly! From the beginning!" I ordered again.
She hesitated before finally speaking. "Look, Keifer is my boss. I know you already know that my uncle is his lawyer. He needed someone he could trust, and I was one of them."
"What's your job? Sexytary? Is that it?!" I asked bluntly.
"You could say that… but maybe not. As far as I remember, Keigan is his assistant."
Keigan? Keigan has a connection to this? He's still young, around Ci-N's age, but he's smart. He thinks like an old man.
"Okay. Let's pretend you're just an assistant," I said dismissively. "But why are you in London?"
Acting like a king and queen? Is that it?
Once again, she looked at me like I was asking the dumbest question in the world.
"Duh! Haven't you heard about the transfer of all the Watsons' money to him?"
I scratched the back of my neck. "I-it was rumored…"
"And you're still asking dumb questions." she scoffed. "We're talking about billions, maybe even trillions, of money here. What do you think we're doing in London? Of course, we're working on it! Helping him transfer and manage all the paperwork." she explained irritably. "...Seriously?"
I'm sorry! I get it now!
I shrank in my seat, feeling stupid for not understanding the situation sooner.
"Well, if you have a job, why are you here?"
She looked at me like I had the smallest brain in the world.
"You really don't know what's going on with Keifer?"
I shook my head, confused. She stared at me for a while before finally starting the car again.
"Later," she answered vaguely.
I chose to stay quiet. Maybe she'd explain when she felt like it. For now, I still wasn't sure if I even wanted to know.
But why was she talking about Keifer when my question was about him? Her answer was vague. And what did my crazy brother do to her? Someone must have done something stupid.
"Where are we going, Percy?" she asked calmly.
"Let's try him and Felix's house."
I gave her directions. It didn't take long before she turned right into the subdivision where their house was. I immediately spotted Felix's house—I had been there several times.
I was about to point it out, but it wasn't necessary. Her eyes were already fixed on it with a sharp glare. She didn't even ask me which house we were going to; she just stopped in front of it on her own. There's definitely something going on.
I got out of the car, and she did too. At first, I didn't move, wanting to see if she would knock or face the people inside. But when she didn't, I took the initiative and rang the doorbell twice.
A few seconds later, the gate opened, revealing Felix's mother. She looked at us seriously, still holding a potholder and wearing an apron.
"J-Jay-jay? H-how are you? Do you need something?" she stammered.
I noticed that she seemed restless, turning inside a few times. I wasn't sure why she was acting like that, but I had a strange feeling. Still, I smiled at her.
"Good day. I'm with someone looking for Percy," I said, pointing at Pulot. "...She is Hali-este Honey Bee."
I almost said Monster.
Aunt smiled at her. "How are you? Nice to meet you. I'm Percy's mother."
Honey approached her. She was still smiling as she kissed both her cheeks before continuing to enter the gate.
Wow!
She stopped and looked around before facing us. "Nice to meet you too. Shall I call you Mom, Mama, or Mommy?"
January? The audacity of this girl is on another level—solid!
I winced at her attitude. Felix's mother looked bewildered.
"Huh?" was all she managed to say.
Honey smiled again while brushing her long hair. "I am your future daughter-in-law."
I was shocked by her boldness. I just blinked. This girl is something else. It's almost overwhelming.
The question is, who is she really after? Percy or Felix? There seems to be something between them.
Auntie tried to smile at her. "Is that so?"
"Yes. Where is Percy?"
I noticed her grip tightening on the potholder. She couldn't even meet Honey's eyes. Something was clearly off, or rather, something was being hidden.
"H-he's not here."
Honey quickly raised an eyebrow, seemingly sensing that something was off with aunt.
"I know—?"
"Mom! You're cooking!" a child suddenly shouted from the house.
Aunt panicked and rushed inside to check on the food. Curious, I followed her to see who had spoken.
I smiled when I saw her—her striking blue eyes unmistakable.
"Dalia!"
"Hello, do you still remember me?" I asked, crouching slightly to match her height.
She pushed back her long hair, revealing her face. She smiled at me and nodded.
"Sister Jay-jay," she answered before hugging me.
I hugged her back and kissed her cheek. It had only been a few months since we last met, but she had already grown so much. Kids really do grow up fast these days.
I heard Honey cough slightly behind me. I quickly let go of Dalia and turned to face her.
I had almost forgotten about her. I was too caught up in missing Felix's little sister. Even though she gave me the creeps sometimes, I was still fond of her.
"Dalia, this is Felix and Percy's youngest sister," I introduced her.
Honey slightly bowed and smiled at Dalia. "Hello, Dalia. You have beautiful eyes."
Dalia's eyes widened as she suddenly pointed at Honey's face and shouted, "Impact!"
I was so startled that I immediately covered her mouth. When I looked at Honey, her glare was so intense it could melt us on the spot.
"Excuse me?!" she snapped, clearly irritated.
"D-don't mind that! S-she doesn't know what it means," I lied with a nervous smile.
Just believe it, pakshit!
"Whatever. Where is your brother Percy?" Honey asked Dalia.
I slowly removed my hand from her mouth. She looked at Honey but didn't say a word. That made me even more anxious. Did I hurt her without realizing it?
I turned to Dalia and smiled. "Is something wrong?"
She leaned toward my ear and whispered, "Kuya said she's a Puri thief. I'm not supposed to talk to her."
What?! Those blue eyes really are something else! Did he really teach this to the kid? The whole situation was just bizarre. Before I could say anything, she ran inside, following her mother. I stood up and faced Honey, shaking my head slightly.
"Percy doesn't seem to be here," I said.
She was obviously not convinced by what I said. She suddenly entered the house, shouting my brother Tukmol's name.
"Reprimand him already! So annoying!"
"Where the hell are you, Percy?!" Honey shouted.
Dalia and her mother came out of the kitchen. The child clung to the hem of her mother's dress, staring at the woman screaming.
Honey even rushed upstairs. Aunt was surprised and immediately followed her, leaving Dalia behind. After a while, she approached me and held my hand. I thought she was afraid, but instead, she slowly pulled me towards the back of their house.
This was where Percy and I used to meet whenever he was hiding from friends and family. We stopped in front of the bathroom, and I pulled her aside.
I had a feeling I already knew.
I opened the bathroom door and looked up at the ceiling. The cover didn't fit the hole properly.
"Percy," I called softly but loud enough for him to hear.
It didn't take long before it opened slightly, revealing my crazy brother's blue eyes peeking through.
"Hi, Jay. Is she still there?" he whispered.
I nodded. "What did you do? Why is she chasing you?"
"I didn't show up for our date last night."
I glanced inside the house for a moment before turning back to him.
"What date? Are you two together now?"
He quickly shook his head. "No way! That girl? She's ugly."
I just shook my head, laughing. That phrase really came from him. Typical Percy. Still the same.
"Don't you remember what happened to you last time?" I teased.
His expression instantly changed into one of pure disgust. "She trampled all over my dignity, and you think I'd go through that again? No way!"
His last words were a little too loud, echoing in the bathroom. I immediately looked towards the house, but thankfully, no one seemed to have noticed.
Trampled… wow, that's deep.
"You better not teach Dalia words like that," I scolded.
"She doesn't even know what it means," he replied.
I sighed. He really was crazy. His blue eyes might as well turn red.
"Alright, I'll distract them so you can sneak out," I instructed. "You owe me for this."
"Thanks, sis," he said cheekily, winking.
I closed the bathroom door and took Dalia's hand to lead her back inside. I could hear aunt and Honey talking.
"Sister Jay-jay," Dalia called. "What does 'dignity' mean?"
Oh boy… this is exactly what I was talking about.
I scratched my head. "It's something your brother Percy has, but you wouldn't know it by looking at him."
She nodded, satisfied with my answer, though I knew she didn't really understand. She was too young for that explanation anyway.
When we got inside, Honey looked completely stressed out. She kept running her fingers through her hair while someone was calling her phone.
Aunt glanced at me, as if she wanted to ask something. She probably had a good idea where her crazy son was hiding. I just smiled and subtly gave her a thumbs-up.
She took a deep breath, her worry seemingly fading. She turned back to Honey, who looked frustrated with her phone.
Honey let out a deep sigh, followed by an exaggerated groan. Dalia flinched and hid behind me.
Then, Honey turned to us with a forced smile. She looked like a lunatic on the verge of a breakdown.
Or maybe she was already there.
"When Percy comes back, tell him to answer my calls. I'm leaving," she said before heading toward the door.
"Wait!" I called after her.
Was she seriously planning to leave me here? She was the one who brought me! There was definitely something wrong with this woman.
I quickly said goodbye to Dalia and her mom, promising to visit again. I also apologized for the mess this girl had caused.
Then, I ran outside to catch up with Honey. Luckily, she was just about to get into her car.
"Hey! Hey! What the hell! Do you plan on killing me first before leaving?" I snapped at her.
"Whatever! Just get in!" she yelled back.
Wow. Look at her. Percy's not the only one who got trampled. She did, too. And it's all her fault—if she hadn't been so clingy, Percy wouldn't be hiding right now.
I got into her car and slammed the door shut. She didn't even react, so I just let it go. She was rich anyway. She could buy a hundred more cars if she wanted to.
It was obvious she was still upset about what happened between her and Percy. I wanted to ask her what she had meant about Keifer earlier.
But how should I start?
