Alice's POV
Our rented hotel room in Volterra wasn't what you'd expect from a secret mission involving high-stakes espionage and potential world-saving. For starters, it was cozy—warm, with lace curtains and furniture that looked like it came straight out of an Italian grandmother's sitting room. But the charm of the decor didn't make up for the tension in the air.
I sat cross-legged on the plush armchair, trying to focus on the papers scattered on the table in front of me. Jasper was pacing near the window, hands behind his back, radiating calm like it was a diffuser he'd set to "serenity now." Meanwhile, Edward leaned against the wall, glaring at the world like it had personally offended him.
"We could've stayed at the castle," Edward grumbled, crossing his arms.
I rolled my eyes. "Oh, sure, Edward. Let's let Aro wander through our minds like a kid at a candy store. That'll end well."
Jasper snorted softly. "She's got a point."
Edward huffed but didn't argue. He knew as well as I did that Aro was the last person who needed access to our recent memories—especially anything involving Robin. No one could know Robin's plans, least of all Aro, with his penchant for scheming and his disturbingly vast Rolodex of allies.
Our "cover" for being here was paper-thin, though it was clever enough to work for now. We were supposedly helping the Volturi research synthetic blood, contact lenses that wouldn't melt from vampire venom, and other mundane improvements to make the vampire lifestyle more human-friendly.
In reality, we were here for Marcus, the quietest and least creepy of the Volturi kings. He wanted us to help him locate his long-lost mate, who was, according to him, being kept by Aro in some secret dungeon far from Volterra. Why Aro would do that? Power, probably. Or just for fun. Either way, it was twisted, and I felt for Marcus.
Still, being so close to the Volturi meant constant vigilance. Robin had locked away memories of her abilities in all of us, just in case, but any new memories we made here were fair game if Aro got too close. That's why we were holed up in this floral-patterned fortress instead of the marble grandeur of the castle.
We were in the middle of a brainstorming session—trying to figure out how to extract Marcus's mate without tipping Aro off—when it happened.
I was sketching a rough layout of the Volturi's underground vaults when my vision hit me like a freight train.
One second, I was in the room, listening to Edward complain about something trivial. The next, I was plunged into a vivid scene: Robin, in all her chaotic glory, storming into the Volturi castle like she owned the place.
Her voice was sharp and commanding, but Aro... he was ready. Somehow, he knew about her compulsion skill. He'd surrounded himself with vampires who were deaf—yes, deaf—so her voice couldn't affect them. What followed was a bloody disaster. People on Robin's side were dying left and right, and the Volturi were grinning like they were at a gladiator match.
The vision ended, and I gasped, clutching the edge of the table like it was the only thing keeping me upright.
Edward was at my side instantly, his brow furrowed. "What did you see?"
"Robin," I managed, my voice shaky. "She's planning to confront Aro. And he knows. He's prepared."
Jasper's calming waves washed over me, and I took a deep breath, focusing on the here and now.
"How does he know about her compulsion?" Edward demanded, his voice sharp.
"I don't know," I admitted, rubbing my temples. "But he does. He's got a bunch of vampires with impaired hearing so they won't be affected. And it's bad, Edward. Really bad."
Edward's face was grim, and he was already starting to pace. "We need to stop her."
"No kidding," I muttered. I closed my eyes, trying to push further into the future. Robin might've been reckless, but she wasn't stupid. There had to be a way to fix this.
It took every ounce of concentration I had, but eventually, I found it: a point in time, years from now, where everything seemed to click into place. Robin wasn't rushing headlong into Aro's lair. She had allies—strong ones, special ones. One person stood out among them: a female vampire.
She was striking, with a calm yet commanding presence. But what really caught my attention? She was with Edward. Not just with him—she was his mate.
The vision shifted, showing Edward with her, his usually broody face lit up with an expression of pure joy. I couldn't help the giddy smile that spread across my face as the vision faded.
"Well, that's exciting," I said aloud, leaning back in my chair.
Edward was staring at me intently. Of course, he'd been reading my mind while I had the vision, so he'd seen everything I just saw.
"She's my mate," he said, his voice soft with wonder.
"Yes, Edward," I said, rolling my eyes fondly. "We all saw the dreamy looks. She's your mate."
He was practically glowing, a rare sight for someone who usually wore a permanent scowl.
Jasper smirked. "Does this mean we don't have to listen to your eternal self-loathing anymore?"
Edward shot him a glare, but it lacked heat. "She's already a vampire," he mused, ignoring Jasper's comment. "That's good. I won't have to turn her."
"Yeah, but don't get too comfortable," I warned. "It's still years away, and we've got a lot to do before then. Like, oh, I don't know, stopping Robin from getting half of us killed."
"Do you think she knows about this?" Edward asked, his tone thoughtful.
"I doubt it," I said. "Robin's plans tho ingenious most of the time, almost like she also has future visions like mine, she still has some blind spots. She probably hasn't seen this yet."
Edward nodded, his excitement bubbling just under the surface.
We spent the next hour going over what I'd seen and trying to figure out how to use it to our advantage. Jasper was surprisingly quiet, which meant he was probably still processing everything.
"So, Edward," I said, smirking. "How does it feel to know you're not doomed to spend eternity alone, wallowing in angst and bad poetry?"
He glared at me, though the faint smile on his lips betrayed him. "Very funny, Alice."
"Oh, I'm hilarious," I said, leaning back in my chair. "But seriously, this is good news. For all of us."
Edward nodded, a rare spark of hope in his eyes.
Just as we were wrapping up our discussion, I was hit with another vision.
This one wasn't as intense as the first, but it was still important: Robin, standing in a sunlit field, surrounded by a group of supernatural allies. They were strong, confident, and ready to take on whatever challenge lay ahead. Among them was Edward's mate, her hand resting on his arm as they stood together.
When the vision ended, I looked at Edward and grinned.
"Looks like the future's brighter than we thought," I said.
He smiled back, and for the first time in a long time, it felt like we were moving toward something good.
Now all we had to do was survive long enough to get there.
"Looks like we're going home boys!" I said.

Third Person POV
The Lux Club debacle was, thankfully, over. Robin had survived Rosalie's wrath (barely) and managed to charm her way out of trouble by singing a heartfelt, albeit slightly misguided, rendition of You Look Like You Love Me. Now, the group was packed into a sleek black car, leaving the city lights behind as they embarked on their journey to Alaska.
Robin was at the wheel, her sunglasses on even though it was night, because, as she claimed, "Cool people drive with shades, no exceptions." Beside her sat Rosalie, arms crossed, still looking mildly annoyed. In the backseat, Nasu and NJ were squeezed together, trading smirks like mischievous children.
"So," NJ began, breaking the silence. "Do you always have this much drama, or is it just a special occasion because I'm here?"
Robin snorted. "Special occasion, definitely. The universe loves to throw chaos at me when I'm trying to impress my mate." She shot a sheepish glance at Rosalie, who raised an unimpressed eyebrow.
"Impress me?" Rosalie asked, her tone icy. "By having a parade of ex-flings pop out of the woodwork? You have a funny idea of romance, Robin."
"Hey, that wasn't planned!" Robin protested. "You think I send out invites like, 'Hey, everyone I've ever sle-kissed, please gather at the club to ruin my night'? Come on, Rosie. Give me some credit."
Rosalie's eyes narrowed. "Don't call me Rosie."
Nasu, sensing danger, leaned forward from the backseat. "You know, technically, Robin didn't 'KISSED' all of them. She's got standards."
Robin shot him a look. "Not helping, traitor."
"Just saying," Nasu said with a smirk. "Also, Robin, you've got a little something on your face. Oh, wait, it's guilt."
NJ burst out laughing, and even Rosalie cracked a small, reluctant smile.
A few hours into the drive, they stopped at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. While Robin was filling up the tank, NJ wandered inside to grab snacks. Nasu, however, had other plans.
"Hey, Robin," Nasu called, leaning against the car. "I bet you can't chug a slushy faster than me."
Robin raised an eyebrow. "Are you serious right now? You're challenging me?"
"Yup," Nasu said, grinning. "Unless you're scared."
Robin smirked. "Fine. You're on."
Five minutes later, they were both standing in front of the gas station, each holding an oversized slushy cup. NJ stood off to the side, her arms full of chips and candy, while Rosalie watched from the car with a look that said, I can't believe I'm stuck with these idiots.
"Ready?" NJ said, acting as the referee. "On three. One... two... three!"
Both Robin and Nasu tipped their cups back, guzzling the icy drinks as fast as they could.
It took all of ten seconds for Robin to slam her cup down in victory, raising her arms triumphantly. "Ha! Told you I—"
She froze, clutching her head.
"Oh no," NJ said, eyes wide.
"Brain freeze," Robin groaned, doubling over.
Nasu, who was still halfway through his drink, started laughing so hard he nearly dropped the cup. "Looks like the champ couldn't handle the heat—or, uh, the cold."
"Shut up," Robin muttered, rubbing her temples.
Rosalie rolled down the car window. "Really? A slushy contest? Are we twelve now?"
"Hey, this was important!" Robin argued, straightening up. "I had to defend my honor."
"Your honor is questionable at best," Rosalie said dryly.
Back on the road, Robin's ego was bruised but not broken. She kept sneaking glances at Rosalie, who was pretending to be engrossed in a book.
"Rosie," Robin said after a while, her voice soft.
Rosalie didn't look up. "What?"
"I'm sorry," Robin said. "For everything. The exes, the chaos, the... well, me."
Rosalie finally turned to look at her. "You're always chaos, Robin. But that's part of why I love you. Just... maybe try to be less chaotic sometimes?"
Robin grinned. "Deal. But no promises."
From the backseat, Nasu whispered to NJ, "She's going to mess up within the hour, isn't she?"
"Definitely," NJ whispered back.
As dawn approached, the car pulled into a diner parking lot for a much-needed break. Inside, the group grabbed a booth near the window.
A waitress came over, all smiles. "What can I get for you folks?"
Robin grinned up at her. "Everything."
Rosalie groaned. "Robin, we're not here to buy the entire menu."
"Speak for yourself," Robin said, flipping through the menu. "I've got a high metabolism."
The waitress laughed, jotting down their order, and NJ leaned over to Rosalie. "Is she always like this?"
"Worse," Rosalie deadpanned.
The food arrived quickly, and the group dug in. Halfway through breakfast, Nasu decided to stir the pot again.
"So, NJ," he said, leaning back in his chair. "What's it like being Robin's newest project?"
"Excuse me?" Robin said, her mouth full of pancakes.
NJ shrugged, smirking. "It's entertaining. Kind of like watching a circus."
Rosalie chuckled. "That's accurate."
Robin pointed her fork at them. "Careful, or I'll start charging admission for the show."
By the time they hit the road again, the group was in high spirits. Robin had managed to smooth things over with Rosalie—for now—and everyone was too full and tired to argue.
As they drove, NJ started humming a tune, and before long, Nasu joined in. It wasn't long before the whole car was belting out an off-key rendition of Sweet Caroline. Even Rosalie joined in, though she tried to act like she wasn't enjoying herself.
For a moment, it felt like everything was perfect.
Of course, with Robin, perfection never lasted long.
As they passed a "Welcome to Canada" sign, Robin grinned. "Next stop, Alaska! Let's hope the bears are friendlier than the exes."
Rosalie groaned. "Robin, if a bear comes out of the woods looking for you, I'm letting it have you."
"Noted," Robin said, smirking.
From the backseat, NJ and Nasu burst out laughing, and the car sped onward, carrying its chaotic crew toward their next adventure.
