Chapter 521: Chapter 471 Project Blue progress March

May 5, 1994, Monday.

Zaboru is now in his office at ZAGE's Tokyo headquarters, where the team is actively testing the prototype that will soon become the ZAGE 16-bit game console. He closely monitors the progress of four games being developed in the Tokyo branch, while another four are simultaneously in development at the Osaka branch. Zaboru has been working tirelessly, pouring his energy into every detail of the project. He hasn't slept in weeks, and now, as night falls, exhaustion is finally catching up with him. His eyes are heavy, and his body is worn from the relentless pace he's kept.

He slumped onto the couch in his personal office workshop, exhaling a long, weary breath. "Damn... I might be overdoing it," he muttered. Zaboru was pushing his body far beyond its limits. Even though his Enlightenment abilities enhanced his stamina, weeks of nonstop work without proper rest were taking a toll. Normally, he functioned at peak efficiency on just two hours of sleep a day. But now, even that seemed unattainable. He had to oversee every aspect of Project Blue—every console unit, every game in development. While his employees had already gone home for the night, Zaboru remained, eyes glued to screens and hands adjusting hardware, determined to ensure everything progressed without a hitch. All of this effort is to ensure that every game functions correctly and is fully playable. Due to Zaboru's intense ambition, ZAGE plans to launch eight titles alongside their new console—a massive undertaking. However, the ZAGE team is still inexperienced with 16-bit systems, which is why Zaboru feels the need to personally guide them through the process. Although many employees are willing to work overtime, Zaboru insists they don't. He prefers that they work at their peak performance on working days, knowing that unlike him, they don't possess cheat-like abilities to sustain such extreme workloads.

Not long after, Ayumi arrived at the ZAGE office, exhaling a deep sigh as she spotted Zaboru. "Zabo, you need to rest. I beg you…" she pleaded, clearly worried. She always told him to rest, but Zaboru always seemed to brush it off.

Zaboru chuckled weakly. "Fine, Ayumi, I'll rest."

Ayumi crossed her arms and huffed. "You're going to sleep here again, aren't you? Let me take you home. It's better if you rest in your own bed."

Zaboru was about to argue that it would just waste time, but Ayumi cut him off sharply. "No wasting time talk, Champion! You either come home and rest, or I'll make you."

Ayumi looked genuinely intimidating, and Zaboru sighed, defeated. "Fine, let's go."

Ayumi then called her driver, Junjou, and together they escorted Zaboru back to his home. There, at last, Zaboru finally got the rest he desperately needed—he slept a full six hours, something that hadn't happened in a long time.

The next day, Zaboru resumed his usual routine, continuing work on Project Blue. However, this time he was careful not to overexert himself. He made a conscious effort to incorporate rest into his schedule, taking short breaks throughout the day to maintain his focus and energy. For once, he allowed himself to pause and breathe, knowing that consistent rest was now part of his daily discipline.

Time continued to fly by. Now, it is already 19 March 1994, and the atmosphere at ZAGE is electric with anticipation. At this point, Project Blue is almost fully realized, sitting at an impressive 99% completion. Zaboru has already directed and finalized the filming for both the teaser trailers and the full-length advertisements for the upcoming console. The teaser spots are slated to air on Friday, 21 March, aiming to build early hype and draw attention. The full advertisements are scheduled for broadcast on Sunday, 23 March. These will lead into the grand reveal: the console itself is planned for release the following Sunday, 30 March 1994. Everything is progressing according to schedule, and excitement is steadily growing inside and outside the company.

ZAGE has not released any games this month. The Tokyo and Osaka teams are fully dedicated to finishing Project Blue, while the USA branch is concentrating its resources on developing Tekken Arcade.* Still there are plenty of 3rd party game devs that submit their games to ZEPS or ZGB this month which make the ZEPS and ZGB library not really dry .

This has led many to speculate that ZAGE is putting everything into this console launch. Gamers and the public alike are aware that ZAGE is entering the 16-bit arena to compete directly with Sonaya's existing 16-bit system. Some believe ZAGE's new console will outshine Sonaya's, with rumors that the hardware is more powerful. Others remain skeptical, questioning whether ZAGE truly understands how to innovate within the 16-bit framework. While the Titan Drive has delivered great visuals and solid gameplay, its biggest leap has been in graphics—which, while impressive, may not be enough on their own.

With the release of Project Blue fast approaching, Zaboru now sits in his office, reviewing the entire initiative on his own, a rare sense of satisfaction washes over him—he's genuinely pleased with how far the project has come.
