Chapter 125: Aozaki Aoko Case File [123]
Mash Kyrielight herself is a genetically engineered test-tube baby created by the Chaldea organization under the orders of the Animusphere family for their Grand Order project.
The identity of her genetic parents is untraceable (possibly originating from the Lancelot family), and her genes were heavily edited to make her a suitable candidate for the Artificial Rayshift Project. She was essentially an experimental subject created for this purpose.
In the original timeline, Mash was born around the year 2000 and was sixteen years old when she first appeared in Chaldea.
As Mash's attending physician, Dr. Romani Archaman determined through research that her maximum lifespan would be eighteen years. This meant that after turning eighteen, she would experience rapid cellular aging, organ failure, and eventual death.
This outcome was caused by Marisbury Animusphere's attempts to forcibly adjust Mash's genes to make her compatible with Artificial Rayshift, prioritizing enhancing her magic circuits in the process.
Ultimately, neither the Astromancy Department nor the Animusphere family were skilled in human engineering or alchemy related to artificial humans. Mash's creation was merely an attempt to validate the feasibility of the Rayshift theory.
Chaldea's Rayshift technology, at its roots, is based on the derivative theory of the Third Magic, used in the development of the Heroic Spirit Summoning System. Its essence is a degraded application of soul materialization to some extent.
Since Mash could Rayshift by converting her physical body into spiritual particles and transferring to Singularities like the one where Aozaki Aoko resides (though this is still uncertain), Touko similarly could use magic to modify Mash's body, fixing her lifespan issues.
For Touko, this process wasn't particularly complicated, but it did take two to three days, as she needed to create a new body for Mash that had perfect compatibility with Rayshift.
Though it was called a new body, after fusing with her Servant's Saint Graph, Mash's constitution shifted from a human-compatible with Rayshift to a demi-servant (half-human).
As such, Touko didn't even need to extract Mash's soul and transfer it to the new body. She simply had to re-spiritualize Mash, who was already a semi-spiritual entity and integrate her into the new body.
Dr. Romani, as Mash's attending physician, took a keen interest in Touko's treatment plan. He meticulously reviewed every detail of the procedure, provided Touko with comprehensive data on Mash's body, and even discussed the plan thoroughly with Leonardo Da Vinci. In the end, he approved Touko's proposal.
For Mash, the chance to become an ordinary human filled her with great joy. Perhaps for the first time, this strong-willed girl began to look forward to the future.
One of her long-held dreams was to travel around the world with her senpai, Ritsuka Fujimaru, after resolving the Human Order Incineration. However, even if Mash reached the maximum designed lifespan of thirty years for a test-tube baby, it would still be far too short for a human.
Now, this dream felt so close within reach that Mash Kyrielight became filled with enthusiasm, eagerly cooperating with Touko's various examinations.
After the treatment, Mash's new state made her closer to pseudo-servants like Lord El-Melloi II and Reines than her original demi-servant form.
If one were to compare, Aoko would say Mash was more akin to Lord El-Melloi II than Reines.
This was because Galahad, the Servant who left his Saint Graph within Mash, had prioritized saving her life. He did not embed his will within the Saint Graph, leaving only his power to protect her.
In fact, Artoria immediately recognized the identity of the Saint Graph within Mash and the origin of her shield when she first saw the young girl. However, upon realizing that Mash knew nothing about the Saint Graph or Noble Phantasm within her, Artoria chose not to reveal the truth. This was likely a trial left by Galahad for Mash.
This situation was somewhat similar to Zhuge Liang, who, after fusing with Lord El-Melloi II, showed little interest in Chaldea's mess and returned to the Throne of Heroes.
Touko took great care in addressing Mash's physical issues, knowing that Marisbury would inevitably create someone like Mash in this timeline as well. Thus, it was better to have Touko gain experience and refine her techniques on this finished product, ensuring that the Mash of this timeline could enjoy a healthy and happy childhood.
...
On the third day of the Fourth Holy Grail War, after having breakfast in the morning, Aoko headed out alone to the Fuyuki Church.
Having previously killed Zouken Matou (death unconfirmed) and Berserker, Aoko had undoubtedly fulfilled the bounty issued by the Fuyuki Church. Thus, a Command Seal as a reward was rightfully hers.
As a Magician coming in person, even if Kotomine Risei and Tohsaka Tokiomi were planning some backdoor deals behind the scenes, they wouldn't dare refuse Aoko's request. So, the priest obediently transferred one part of the Command Seals on his arm to Aoko.
With this, Aoko now possessed two Command Seals. She planned to give one to Touko after returning to Ryuudou Temple, ensuring that Touko wouldn't lose to an enemy due to a lack of Command Seals in case of an emergency.
Feeling a bit hungry after leaving Fuyuki Church, Aoko decided to head to the shopping district in Miyama Town to find a decent restaurant for lunch. Since she had already prepared food back at Ryuudou Temple, she wasn't worried about Touko and the others going hungry.
Fujimaru Ritsuka and Lord El-Melloi II had left early in the morning under Da Vinci and Dr. Romani's instructions, heading out mysteriously for unknown purposes.
After wandering around the streets, Aoko eventually chose a restaurant.
The restaurant's windows were tightly closed even in broad daylight, and the comings and goings of customers were completely concealed. Strangely, some people would glance at the restaurant and immediately want to run away.
This is the infamous Koushuuensaikan Taizan.
Unfazed, Aoko pushed open the door and entered. After scanning the interior, she found the decoration to be surprisingly ordinary—exactly what one would expect from a typical Japanese restaurant.
However, beyond the ordinary decor, neither the mysterious chef who coated every ingredient in chili nor the stoic priest in the corner devouring bright-red mapo tofu seemed remotely normal.
Ps: I want to try mapo tofu.
