Chapter 37: Entering the Town_1
Outside the camp, heading towards Chaihe Town.
Three men and a dog advanced towards Chaihe Town at a brisk pace.
"Li Dalong, tell us about the situation in Chaihe Town."
Li Dalong mulled it over for a moment, then called out to Wen Yu. He squatted down, picked up a small stone, and began to sketch on the ground.
"Look here. This is the main street of Chaihe Town. Below the street is a river, and across the river is Jiangxi."
"That side hasn't undergone shantytown redevelopment; it's all low-lying houses. It's also near the mountains, so there are many mutant beasts. Moreover, it's said that deep within the mountains, there's a king of the mutant beasts—a giant eagle with a wingspan of over ten meters. Who knows where it came from..."
"The Jiangdong region, Chaihe Town's main district, is also where the zombies are holed up."
"These zombies are organized and disciplined. The only main road into Chaihe Town is this one, and it's guarded by a large number of zombies daily. There are other entrances, but they are all close to the mountains, where the threat from mutant beasts is high."
After Li Dalong finished his crude sketch, he silently watched Wen Yu, who was lost in thought.
"How many zombies are at the entrance of the town?" Wen Yu asked cautiously.
"No less than a hundred, and their levels aren't low. Thirty percent of them are Level 1 zombies."
"Hmm, then let's just go straight in through the town entrance."
Li Dalong hesitated. "Wouldn't that be too risky?"
Wen Yu looked straight at Li Dalong and Sun Ruixing and said without hesitation, "It would indeed be dangerous for you. So, if you think it's too dangerous, you can pull out. When the fighting starts, I'll assess the situation to decide whether to press on. Don't entertain thoughts like, 'Wen Yu will bail me out if I'm in danger.' Once the fighting begins, I won't have time to look out for anyone."
Li Dalong hesitated again. After a long pause, he finally made up his mind.
"Can I trail behind you and pick up some scraps? Like, gather some supplies?"
Wen Yu chuckled. "No problem at all. I won't be collecting any supplies from the stores or houses. If you want them, they're all yours."
"Thank you, thank you."
What was Li Dalong's purpose in coming? Nothing more than finding some food. For someone struggling to find enough to eat, focusing on killing zombies for points was too much to ask.
"By the way, Big Brother Sun, what's your plan?"
Sun Ruixing had already made his decision and stated directly, "I'll advance depending on the situation."
"Alright, just be careful."
"By the way, Li Dalong, where is this Corpse King?"
"It's said to be in Chai River Town Hospital, right here!" Li Dalong then heavily marked a spot on the simple map he had just drawn.
"Alright, understood. Let's move."
The closer they got to Chaihe Town, the clearer the hissing snarls of the zombies became.
"We're almost there, just ahead," Li Dalong whispered.
"Cyclops, go!"
Cyclops was undoubtedly Wen Yu's vanguard—in fact, it seemed to be the only 'soldier' Wen Yu currently possessed.
Cyclops let out a couple of strange cries and charged forward.
This was Wen Yu's 'tactic.' He had lived two lives, but his experiences in both had been those of a nobody—an undeniable fact. Consequently, he had no real tactics to speak of, nor could he devise any sophisticated ones. Fortunately, Wen Yu was incredibly strong. In the face of formidable strength, brute force was the best tactic.
As the sounds of battle ahead grew more intense, Wen Yu drew the steel saber from his back and said to the other two, "You can advance too. Any points you can grab are yours. Once inside the town, you're on your own."
Without waiting for their reactions, Wen Yu immediately entered a combat stance and surged forward.
There were indeed many zombies. Over a hundred of them were crammed into an area of just a few dozen meters, creating a densely packed sight.
When Wen Yu reached the battlefield, he saw Cyclops already wreaking havoc.
While there were many Level 1 zombies, they posed no threat to the current Cyclops. Wen Yu even noticed that Cyclops's hide had barely any wounds.
He swung his saber. Its immense power tore through the body of the zombie closest to him and simultaneously decapitated a second. The splattering filth and blood only seemed to ignite Wen Yu's fighting spirit.
This was the battlefield most familiar to him from his past life—surrounded by hordes of zombies, his blood pumping with adrenaline.
The difference was, in this life, he would be the master of his own fate, and perhaps, the fates of others.
By the time Sun Ruixing and Li Dalong reached the battlefield, the zombie horde had mostly been routed. Only a dozen or so scattered zombies remained, each missing limbs as Cyclops toyed with them.
"Go see if any are still alive. You two can finish them off. Stay away from Cyclops to avoid friendly fire," Wen Yu said.
With a casual greeting, Wen Yu headed straight for the Exchange Stone Pillar.
If one had points, they should be used to enhance one's strength; this was absolutely essential.
As the zombies' strength increased, the points they provided also grew more abundant. This group of zombies provided Wen Yu with just over a thousand points.
He immediately exchanged them for two Level 2 attributeless magic crystals, bringing his physical fitness to 15.5 points.
Seeing Cyclops dispatch the last few zombies, Wen Yu nodded to the two men—who were finishing off stragglers nearby—and walked into Chaihe Town.
His target: the Chai River Town Hospital!
The Chai River Town Hospital was the only hospital in Chaihe Town.
As Chaihe Town's economy had steadily developed, the once old and dilapidated building had been renovated and looked increasingly presentable. Though only three stories tall, it covered a considerable area.
At this moment, in the large hall on the third floor, an operating table, evidently moved there by someone, held the corpse of a giant mutant pig.
Its white, portly body, though lacking sharp claws and appearing clumsy, possessed sharp tusks—a clear reminder that this creature was no longer mere food.
A zombie rushed in. If not for its exposed facial bones and greyish-white eyes, its agile movements were almost indistinguishable from a human's.
"ROAR! ROAR!"
Although Level 2 zombies possessed rudimentary intelligence, the corrosion of Demonic Qi had robbed most of them of the ability to speak.
Hearing the Level 2 zombie's cry, a massive head emerged from the mutant pig's corpse.
This was the Corpse King of Chaihe Town.
It stood three meters tall with greyish-blue skin, its overall form like an enlarged version of a human.
However, this Corpse King's right hand was disproportionately large!!
