Chapter 6: Chapter 6 The mutant eagle
Abby, like everyone else, ran as fast as she could toward the nearest building. That's when Abby heard the sound of a girl crying, so she immediately stopped in her tracks.
Abby turned to see a girl of about six standing helpless on the side of the street, her arms bleeding from broken glass and her face covered in tears. The people running in the street were so intent on running for their lives that none of them had time to notice the poor girl standing alone by the side of the road.
Suddenly a great gust of wind swept viciously across the two sides of the street. The mutant eagle was hurtling at great speed toward the crowd, and with his two claws outstretched he aimed at the girl who was standing on the curb.
"No!" Abby screamed and ran in the direction of the girl.
Meanwhile the sharp, huge talons of the mutant eagle were drawing nearer and nearer to the girl. So Abby rushed at the girl as fast as she could, and then shielded the girl under her.
A great cloud hung over Abby's head, and the wind from the wings of the mutant eagle was so strong that her body swayed from side to side, and the wind whistled in her ears as she clasped the girl in her arms.
At that point, Abby felt a hot stream running down her back. Immediately afterward, she heard a shrill cry from the mutant eagle. The great cloud that had been pressing down on Abby's head was slowly lifting. When Abby looked up, she saw the tail feathers of the mutant eagle in flames.
The mutant eagle was flying rapidly overhead, as if frightened. The awakened man in metal armor is closely following the mutant eagle, and the awakened man is carrying a black longsword behind his back. In the sunlight the long, black sword glowed with a cold silver light.
The mutant eagle hisses as it flees, with Awakened pursuing it. As the distance between them grew, a flash of lightning struck the right wing of the mutant eagle. Almost at the same instant the awakened man drew his black sword from behind him and plunged it into the center of the mutant eagle's abdomen.
The shrieks of the mutant hawks resounded through the city. In the next second, the body of the mutant eagle fell rapidly to the ground. The awakened man flies at great speed toward the mutant eagle, his feet on a silver flying machine.
Before the mutant eagle's body hits the ground, Awakened supports the mutant eagle's body with his hands and slowly lands in a clearing.
Abby watched what was going on before her. She could not have imagined that Awakened would be able to kill the huge mutant eagle in such a short time. She looked at the back of the awakened man. She seemed to have seen the man there before.
"It's him." Abby remembered him as the awakened man who had saved her that day in the wilderness.
At that moment Abby's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the girl's cries. As she bent her head to comfort the girl, the system panel automatically opened.
[Mission: Heal at least three injured people.]
"But I've never tried to heal a wound." The thought that she had almost lost control of her healing skills at the hospital made Abby hesitate a little. She feared the same thing might happen to the injured.
"But if I don't try, how can I become a qualified healer in the future?" Abby encouraged herself. Then she lowered her head and gently said to the girl who was crying, " The wound hurts, doesn't it? Let me help you?"
The girl nodded her head, the tears having long since dimmed her eyes. So Abby led the girl to safety. She first looked at the wound on the girl's arm and then whispered to the girl, "Close your eyes."
The girl sobbed, and closed her eyes obediently.
Abby laid her hand lightly on the spot where the wound had been on the girl's arm, and drew a deep breath. She gathered her thoughts, ignored the loud noises around her, and kept her inner peace.
Then a warm current flowed from Abby's body into the palms of her hands. A pale green glow of energy wrapped around the girl's wounded arm like a ribbon, and in a matter of seconds the girl's arm stopped bleeding.
A long cut on the girl's arm, which had originally been cut by the glass, was slowly healing. Newly-grown muscle tissue was covering the wound. Presently the girl's wound returned to its old form.
Abby slowly took that energy back into her body and then said to the girl, "Now, you can open your eyes."
The girl opened her eyes and showed surprise when she saw that her arm was back to normal.
"Do you still feel pain now?" Abby asked.
The girl shook her head. She whispered, "But I want Mommy."
"Do you remember your mommy's phone number?" Abby stroked the girl's head"I'll call your mommy to come get you and take you home."
"My mom's phone number is——" Before the girl could finish her sentence, a short-haired woman came running over in a panic.
"Oh, God. Susan, I finally found you." The woman's eyes were red as she clung to the girl named Susan.
"Mommy, she saved me." The girl pointed to Abby and said, "She healed my wounds."
"Are you hurt?" " asked the woman, nervously.
"Your daughter's arm was just cut by glass, but she's fine now." Abby explained.
"She healed my wound with magic." The girl said,
"Magic?" The woman gave a look of incredulity, and after a moment she responded.
"You saved my daughter with your powers, didn't you?" The woman asked, "Are you awakened?"
Abby nodded. She says to the woman, "I think you should take your daughter home first, ma'am. After all, the streets aren't too safe right now."
"Thank you." The woman's eyes filled with gratitude. Then she hugged her daughter and left.
Soon, Abby finds an unconscious cab driver on the side of the road. The front end of the cabby's car was smashed and the driver's head was slumped over the wheel. It was supposed to have been a crash in the chaos that had just taken place that had injured the cabby.
So Abby healed that cabby's injury in the same way. The last casualty was an old scavenger lady who had sprained her foot, and when Abby healed the old lady's foot, she even held Abby's hand and cried for a while.
After the mission is completed, the system panel automatically opens and displays a line: Congratulations on completing the mission, with a bonus of 100 points.
"100 points?" Abby was secretly happy, "What can 100 points be exchanged for?"
Then from the street came the sound of the horn of a rescue car. So Abby at once looked in the direction of the sound. She saw two red rescue cars coming in the direction where the mutant eagles had just now landed. There were also a fair number of reporters rushing to the scene, holding up their cameras to snap frantic pictures of the dead mutant eagle. The awakened man who killed the mutant eagle is speaking to a man in a military uniform.
"Maybe I should say thank you to him." Abby muttered, " After all, he just saved me again."
Abby is about to walk over to The Awakened when she sees The Awakened get into an armored vehicle with an officer. Abby watched the armored vehicle as it moved slowly away. She gave a little sigh of disappointment.
So Abby turned away, and she walked to the bus stop. A bus was passing, and Abby did not hesitate to get on it.
Abby was sitting on the seat of the bus, Her head rested gently against the window, and the image of the awakened one flashed into her mind.
Abby's heart was racing, and she did not know why.
