Chapter 439: I am Wronged (2)
Bai Meiyue winced under the tight embrace that Lei Qian had on her. She looked at the man who was trembling as if he was scared out of his freaking mind and said to him, "If you are too scared to have this child, I will understand. I never intended to hold you responsible in the first place."
"Did I say that I was scared of taking responsibility for this child?" Lei Qian was stupefied. He was crying because he was too angry and not because he was scared to take on the responsibility of raising a child. He thought about how he had gotten on top of her, teased her, and tried to seduce her.
Sometimes he would pull her down with him.
That was just the gist of it. He didn't even want to start thinking about the times when Bai Meiyue hopped around the entire place, bouncing and running. He recalled how she had carried heavy boxes in her hands and handled a bunch of zombies alone. When he thought about how he had left her to deal with those beasts alone, Lei Qian wanted to slap himself on the face.
Why did he not realise these signs?
There were a lot of things that Lei Qian wanted to say to her, but when he saw that Bai Meiyue was frowning with a look of annoyance on her face, he calmed down and lowered his voice before saying to her, "Yueyue, when did I say that I would not take responsibility? Brother is willing to take responsibility! It's my fault that you are in this condition, and I have always told you that brother is willing to take on the blame as long as you want to."
"If you hate me, then you can hit me. You can do whatever you want; leave me with a breath if that makes you happy." After a pause, he swiftly continued, "But why did you have to keep this information from me? Tell me. If Dacheng had not told me the truth tonight, you would have kept this as a secret from me for a while, right?"
When Bai Meiyue heard him question her, she frowned and said to him, "Look at you. How many times did I try to tell you? I even asked you this question tonight but you—"
However, Lei Qian was not listening; it was as if he had gone crazy. He continued blabbering while Bai Meiyue listened to him, "I am not saying this to force you, but I am not going to leave you alone now, Yueyue. In the past, I was giving you a choice by asking you whether you wanted to come with us or not, but not anymore. Now that we have a child, you have to come with my family. A child cannot be without a father. And I know that you don't trust me, but I will treat the child really well."
The more he spoke, the more Bai Meiyue thought he was falling off course. She frowned and couldn't help but say, "Are you sure? Didn't you say that a child will only add more to your burdens?"
"When did I say such a ridiculous thing?" Lei Qian asked, looking terribly upset. "When did I say that a child is going to add to my burdens? Since when did I start saying such nonsense?"
"You said it. You said to me that there is no way that you can take care of a child when you are entangled with Lei Wu, that cousin of yours. Now that you have to face the consequences of your actions, you want to shirk responsibility? You didn't want a weakness that Lei Wu could exploit, so you told me that you don't want a child."
Lei Qian was frowning so hard that it was a bit pitiful, but it was too unfortunate that the person in front of him was none other than Bai Meiyue. She didn't take any pity on him; she narrowed her eyes at him and said, "You did. You might not remember it but I do very well at that. That's why I was hesitating to tell the truth to you. What if you asked me to abandon my child? What would I have done then?"
"I never! I would never do it!" Lei Qian almost jumped to his feet when he heard Bai Meiyue's accusation. "I would never do such a thing. You might have remembered it wrong." The manner in which he spoke was as if he were the one who was wronged to death. If not for the fact that Bai Meiyue could not smell the scent of iron, she would have thought that the sky would start bleeding at any second with how wronged Lei Qian looked.
She raised her foot and kicked the man off the bed. She said to him, "You did. When I asked you if you wanted a child. You said no; you said that Lei Wu would use the child against you. So I kept it from you. What is the point of telling you when my child's safety will be endangered after getting entangled with you?"
She was about to lift her foot and smash it against his head once again, but then the man stopped her by catching her foot. He said to her clearly, "How can you think of these two things as the same? When I said those words, it meant that I didn't want to have a child, as I thought you were not carrying one. But if you had told me that you were already pregnant, do you think that I would have refused? Or would you have asked you to abort the child? I would have made sure that you and our child remained safe."
"That's what I would have done."
He then helped her to lay her foot back down on the bed and said to her, "Do you hate me so much that you would blame me for something that I didn't even mean?"
