Bai Meiyue was speechless with the antics of the two siblings. She sighed and turned to look at Lei Yan before saying to her, "I have a few fresh fish in stock; you can use them later on. For now, can you please help me? Or else my mother will end up dehydrated." She pointed to Mother Bai, who was beyond distressed. Even with Director Feng, Old Master Bai and Bai Zhan taking turns to calm down, they couldn't do anything.
Though Mother Bai was not a miser, she was indeed quite careful when she was using the supplies that Bai Meiyue and the rest had collected. To make things worse, Mother Bai was also a bit insecure about not being able to go out and hunt for supplies. There was no surprise that she was even more profoundly guilty over the loss of this pot of rice.
Lei Yan nodded. She turned to look at her brother before saying to him, "I am only doing this for Sister Yueyue and not you, blegh."
She poked her tongue at her brother before turning around. Lei Qian was speechless when he saw the actions of his sister. What was the meaning of this?
Though he wanted to stop Lei Yan and question her about what she meant by her words, he stopped when he saw Lei Yan concentrate. He pursed his lips and fell back before muttering under his breath, "You are acting like your brother never does anything for you."
He sounded like a sullen child, and Bai Meiyue simply shot him a look. She wondered where she had gone wrong. Or did her rebirth make some changes? Was he the same man who was feared by all the officials of the bases all over the world? Because this man certainly didn't give her the feeling of a ruthless tyrant.
What Bai Meiyue didn't know was that without her by his side, Lei Qian was indeed not as sunny and charming as he was at the moment. With the lies and schemes thrown at him under her name, he had long gone through various changes which changed his entire personality.
However, with Bai Meiyue by his side, he didn't go through the earth-shattering changes.
Lei Yan used her skills and lightened the weight of the rice grains that were mixed with the chicken poop, and Lei Qian quickly cleaned it all up. He then placed the pot right under the floating rice. Lei Yan waited until her brother was done and then dropped the rice in the pot without wasting another second.
"It's done." Lei Yan heaved a sigh of relief. Even though she was quite a skilled ability user thanks to her brother, who gave her all the pointers that he received from Bai Meiyue, she was still young and couldn't control her powers as well as the adults. This was the first time she had applied the gravitational force on something so small.
"Thank you." Bai Meiyue was quite grateful to Lei Yan. Even though she had enough grains to fill the pot, she knew that her mother would still feel guilty over the rice that was lost. With this, at least Mother Bai would stop feeling guilty.
Lei Yan smiled at Bai Meiyue and waved her hand. She said, "This is nothing. Compared to the times when you have saved my life, this is truly nothing."
Lei Qian turned and looked at his sister. He silently wondered if this young woman in front of him was the same young woman who had caused a fuss just a few seconds ago. He remarked, "Have I lost my memory, or have you lost yours? As far as I know, I, too, saved your life countless times. Why don't I get such grateful words?"
Lei Yan turned to look at him, and the smile on her lips had long vanished. She then said to him, "You have used all the favours that you owe me."
After she finished speaking, she turned on her feet and headed out of the kitchen.
Lei Qian watched his sister leave with his hands on his hips. He turned to look at Bai Meiyue, but the woman was also heading out of the kitchen with the pot of rice in her hands. He chased after her and took the pot from her hands before making his way to Mother Bai, who had stopped crying but still looked distressed.
He said to Mother Bai, "Look, we have cleared up the rice, Aunt Bai. You can stop crying now."
Bai Meiyue came to a stop next to Lei Qian and said to her mother, "Mom, I understand that what happened upset you, but you also need to hold your wits together. I am not scolding you," she added quickly, just in case her mother started thinking too much. She said, "I know that every little thing counts at the moment, but when things go out of control, you should control yourself, hold your emotions in and think things through. From the next time, instead of crying, try to think of ways to make things better, alright? Or a solution if you cannot make it better."
Mother Bai wiped the corners of her eyes and said, "I am sorry. I wasn't thinking straight. We just left the penthouse, and the greenhouse is not set. So we have no vegetables at hand. Whatever vegetables we had were used last night, and the frozen meat is for you. The seafood has also been used up." Mother Bai wrung her hands and said to Bai Meiyue, "I was worried that everyone would have to go hungry since all the rice had fallen on the ground and was ruined by the mutated chickens."
