Chapter 594: A Problem with the energy ball
Of course, while Bai Meiyue's solution was the most practical, it was also sort of hard to see through. At first, the soldiers and guards, as well as the ability users, were quite happy upon seeing so much meat and little vegetables. In the safe base, they were only given dregs of fat or sometimes shredded frozen meat, and sometimes they didn't even get those dregs of fat.
With Yu Miaomiao taking care of the supplies, they would only be given soup that was left over in the pot after everyone was done eating. In the past, the soldiers thought that it was good enough, but after following Bai Meiyue, they realised that Yu Miaomiao was just acting as a cheapskate. If that woman could spend so much time creating a vaccine for Doomsday, she could spend some time creating a way to detox the meat of the mutated animals as well. But she didn't.
What did this show? It meant that Yu Miaomiao didn't care about their lives and deaths. As for the doomsday vaccines? Haha, if they couldn't even stay alive till then due to starving half to death, what use would those vaccines be for them?
Compared to her, Bai Meiyue was way more realistic and smart. As long as they could keep their lives, nothing else mattered more than that.
However, their joy didn't last long. After eating meat for weeks, they were about to barf; sure, it tasted good, but now they wanted something light. Like egg porridge and fried rice. However, compared to Mother Bai's speed of growing vegetables, the growing rate of these mutated animals was faster, which led to more braised pig and fried chicken being cooked.
The limit was crossed to the point that even Bai Jixuan, who was a meat lover, ended up throwing his hands up in the air.
"I want eggs with tomatoes—or maybe rice. Just rice. I can eat it with pickle," Bai Jixuan cried. He was going to end up going crazy if this went on. How was he supposed to survive this any longer? The dishes were just too heavy, making him fatter and greasier. If this went on, he would end up with a rather bad stomach.
Bai Meiyue glanced at her second brother and calmly said to him, "Didn't you say that you could eat Lei Qian's braised pork all your life, why did you suddenly change your tune all of a sudden?"
Even Lei Qian raised his head and looked at Bai Jixuan. He was quite hurt by the sudden exclamation made by Bai Jixuan as he was trying his best to make the meat as little greasy as possible, and he also added more vegetables by grinding them into puree. Since he couldn't get more vegetables to stir-fry, he went ahead and braised the potatoes with the braised pork. He thought that he had done a good job.
But the results were still unsatisfactory.
"I am not saying that it doesn't taste good," said Bai Jixuan sheepishly. "But we have been eating this for weeks, how long do we need to eat meat alone? I can't do this anymore." He indeed loved eating meat and could eat it for days, but stretching it for weeks was certainly too much.
Bai Meiyue glanced at the braised potatoes and pork and sighed. She, too, was getting a bit tired of eating meat. As a pregnant woman, she needed to eat a balanced diet; she had indeed been adding a few vegetables by exchanging them with the barter system, but seriously, was it not a waste of jade?
"Alright, we will butcher the animals, and I will freeze the meat. That way, we can have a break from it for a while."
Almost instantly, Bai Jixuan cheered up. Finally, he no longer had to eat meat!
Mother Bai, on the other hand, turned worried. She said to Bai Meiyue, "But we haven't grown vegetables yet, what are we going to eat?"
Thinking about the preserved and marinated meat and vegetables in her space, Bai Meiyue replied, "I have some pickled radishes and cabbage. We can use them for the time being; anyway, everyone must be quite done with meat. So eating some simple rice gruel and pickles will be fine for the next few days. There is also some seaweed that we got the last time, and tofu; we can prepare them together to soak rice for those who cannot eat dry food."
Mother Bai still looked worried, but after thinking it through, she knew that there was nothing else that they could do, so she nodded and agreed. Anyway, in these times, having something to eat was better than having nothing to eat at all.
With the plan set, they were about to finish eating when Doctor Cui, along with Doctor Zhou, came to look for them. The two of them were no longer the same thin and sallow-looking young men. After eating meat and vegetables along with shiny white rice, they had grown even plumper than Bai Meiyue, who was watching what she was eating. Unlike her, they ate whatever was served to them and thus had grown quite greasy because of the lack of exercise.
"Miss Bai," Doctor Cui greeted Bai Meiyue with a smile.
"Doctor Cui, is something the matter?" Bai Meiyue questioned when she saw the two men walking over to the dining table. It was quite early, and yet if the two of them came looking for her, it meant that there was something important that they wanted to discuss with her.
"There is indeed something wrong," replied Doctor Cui. He looked at the ribs in the bowl and licked his lips, knowing what a big foodie this man was. Lei Qian pushed the bowl over to him and said, "Go ahead. They are still warm."
Doctor Cui thanked the man and then started speaking to Bai Meiyue, "Did you not ask me to examine the energy ball of the two Meng siblings. I am done examining them but there is some problem—"
