As an ordinary genius

Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Secret Power

Ethan stood in the middle of his garage lab, staring at the organized chaos of tools and half-finished projects. The garage lab was his cover, the visible face of his tinkering hobby. It had to stay untouched—just messy enough to convince anyone curious that this was all there was to his work.

"I'll keep this as it is," he muttered, surveying the room. "If anyone gets too nosy, they'll think this is all I've got."

The real work was happening underground in his secret lab. Ethan had spent the last few nights sketching a wiring plan for the lab. It wasn't just about powering the lab—it was about making sure no one suspected its existence.

"I can't risk connecting it to the house's electricity," he thought. "Too much power usage would raise questions."

Instead, he planned to power the lab with a diesel generator. It would be noisy, but the soundproofing he had installed would ensure that no one outside could hear it.

Ethan spent the next day crafting custom wires in his garage lab. He carefully stripped the insulation from copper wires, testing their conductivity.

"This needs to be flawless," he murmured, running his fingers along the wires. "One mistake, and the whole system could fail."

As he worked, his phone buzzed on the counter. He glanced at the screen—it was a text from a colleague.

Colleague: "Hey, haven't seen you at work. Everything okay?"

Ethan: "Yeah, just taking some time to reorganize things at home. I'll be back next week."

Satisfied with his response, Ethan returned to his task, meticulously soldering connections and testing each wire with a multimeter.

Once the wires were ready, Ethan carried them down to the secret lab. The soundproofing made the space feel isolated from the world above, which was exactly what he needed.

He began by installing conduits along the walls and ceiling, threading the wires through them. The process was tedious, but Ethan enjoyed the precision it required.

"Let's see..." he said, connecting the wires to a breaker box he had installed earlier. "This should handle the load."

The diesel generator sat in a corner of the lab, surrounded by acoustic panels to minimize its noise. Ethan connected the generator to the breaker box, then tested the system.

The lights flickered on, casting a soft glow across the room. Ethan smiled. "Perfect."

Next, Ethan wired the rest of the house, carefully hiding the connections that led to the underground lab. He installed outlets, switches, and fixtures, ensuring everything looked normal.

He also created a backup power system for the house, separate from the lab, so that any outages wouldn't raise suspicion.

By the time he was done, the house looked untouched, but Ethan knew it was now wired to his specifications.

Ethan fired up the generator and monitored the power flow to the lab. The hum of the generator was barely audible, even from within the lab.

He tested each outlet, switch, and fixture, making sure everything worked as intended. "Everything checks out," he said, nodding to himself.

As the sun set, Ethan sat in his garage lab, pretending to tinker with an old project. He wanted to maintain the appearance of normalcy, just in case any neighbors were watching.

He glanced at the underground lab's entrance, hidden beneath a stack of shelves. The real work was about to begin, but for now, he allowed himself a moment to rest.

"This is just the beginning," he thought, a small smile playing on his lips.
