As an Ordinary person (Why do I keep attracting Psychopaths?)

Chapter 9: Chapter 8: Nami Fire

"Brat, come here for a second"

Hearing the rough voice of the old lady, Yuna get up from her seat and pats Grida head telling him to wait for her.

Entering the back door of the Apothecary store, Yuna approach the apothecary and asked "What is it?"

The Apothecary took out a thick book and placed it on the table "Read this and learn them in two weeks"

Looking at the book, Yuna have some faint idea on what was going on.

The book covers reads:

• Basic Plants encyclopaedia

She quickly backs away and said in horror "No way! I'm not learning shit"

The apothecary hearing Yuna incompetent exclamation give her a fierce glare "I gave you a chance to learn apothecary and you want to refuse?! How can there be such an incompetent person"

Being an apothecary is like being a chemist nerd in her previous world and Yuna who don't like chemistry vehemently refuse to learn apothecary where she has to learn by heart all the components, methods, ingredients and various steps to make a potion.

Isn't it enough to just slowly exploring her interesting ability? Why should she let herself suffer and face learning pressure once again?

She don't want to live under pressure cooker again!

"Who want to learn, not me"

Yuna turn around to get out but the door slam shut on her face and with a clicked, it was locked.

'Damn! The old coots is a mage'

Yuna turn around stiffly.

She should have been more careful because this kind of apothecaries and other scholars tends to be mages.

Yuna look at the mana that surrounds the old lady.

"Children should have an aspiration to learn more things"

The apothecary said.

"Don't want to, you can't force me" Yuna persisted

"Tch….I'll let you read the elementals book"

"...….fine"

Yuna shamefully succumb to temptation.

"I am you're apothecary master" The apothecary state.

Her real intention, she could already imagine the envious gaze of her peers when she shows off her disciple who can achieve perfect purity.

Yuna was floored at the apothecary shamelessness "...You are taking advantage of me"

She is not a naïve kid and already knows her preciousness is being able to achieve perfect purity in potion making.

"Call me master"

Yuna does not want to call her master at all, she don't want to acknowledge an old lady as her master when she has a dream of having a beautiful and strong male or female as her master.

Yes, Yuna is a visual creature and there is nothing shameful about that.

Not getting a response, the old lady took out a book which read

• Elementals

As soon as the book was taken out, Yuna with an expression that says she has nothing to live for called out "Sensei"

"Oh…..taking the style of the Yamato kingdom, I'm not against their language"

The apothecary nods her head in satisfaction

"Take the book and study well, the books contains all the low level herbs discover so far"

Yuna heart trembles at the thought of having to learn the thousand pages in a weeks.

The force of temptation as well as the long after thought of her being able to make her own potion to take care of herself and those close to her and not needing to spend a dime makes her want to learn it even though she dread learning.

Yuna also know that it was an opportunity, a chance that she will never get again. Something like a golden finger.

'If only this good thing won't happen'

Yuna lament. If she does not encounter, she could stay ignorant and be in bliss.

When she buy potion in the future, she can pretentiously say 'I don't have the luck of a protagonist to learn apothecary from a master so I can only buy'

But now….

Yuna look at the thick book and her lips twitch.

With a complex mood, Yuna leave the room. When night arrives, she lit up the lamp and open the book that contains various information about the low level herbs.

"So the apothecary took you in as her disciple?"

Grandpa Orion asked his granddaughter in wonder.

"Yeah"

"That's good, if you can learn apothecaries, it will give you more advantage when you apply to enter the academies at the capital"

Grandpa Orion voices his expectation.

"…..En"

Yuna read the thick book with a heavy heart.

"Okay… I know you can do it, I'll go lay in bed and also read some book as a form of accompanying your study" Grandpa Orion said encouragingly, patting Yuna back and went inside his room

After that, a light snoring sound came.

Yuna who was left with a thick book to study: "...."

'Grandpa, where is your sense of loyalty?'

...

Week passed and Yuna could not even memorize one-tenth of the book.

Giving up and preparing herself to be scolded, Yuna just simply put away the book and decide to read the elemental book instead.

As soon as Yuna read the first sentences, her eyes lit up.

The book talks about the God who used the primordial elements to create the world.

The passage on the book reads:

• …The Primordial elements are Water, Earth, Fire, Wood and Air. The five primordial elements are the foundation and what constituent the creation of the world

The passage of the book were not long and some are merely a simple word but the sentence and word in of itself is thought provoking and seems to talk about the truth of everything in the most simplest form.

The book also talk about how energy started to fill in the world in the later stages, energy called Mana.

Ten thousand years ago, elementalist flourish, each and every person seem to have the ability to tune in with at the very least one or two element, being able to harness formidable power but eons passed and the golden era of elementalist started to declined.

Elementalist slowly yet steadily becomes scarce.

"Every history book always has to state the cause of decline of that thing or those things is unknown"

Yuna tutted when she reads the line that says:

• The decline in appearance of elementalist became a mystery to this day

The book mentioned the ushering golden era of new energy, mana user called the mages who can replicate elementalist to some extent. They can manipulate and conjure replicated element through mana by using spell casting, runes and other methods.

After reading the book, Yuna seems to gains a better understanding of elements.

• Elements in of itself are without form and it is the wielder who gave form and meaning to it

It was a very simple sentence but a person understanding and comprehension of the passage will differ from one person to another.

One epiphany will differ from the other.

Yuna look down her hand that emits fire. The fire was taking different form, sometimes a bird, other time a butterfly, even times an arrow and other such shape.

"I want a fire that takes the form of living thing instead of weapons"

Yuna cease the fire from making any form of weapons or non-living thing. Varied form of animals and beast started to form from the fire that was emitted.

'Elements in of itself are without form and it is the wielder who gave form….'

Reciting the line, Yuna gave the fire a form of living things.

The fire takes the form of a butterfly, the butterfly combust and emerge a large number of butterfly from the combustion carrying the same heat intensity as the original butterfly that combust.

'...…..and meaning to it'

Therefore the butterfly have the meaning of multiplication, it multiplies the more it combust.

"Giving a special meaning to a formed fire drains more energy than I expected"

Yuna mumbles, exhaustion tinge her voice.

Maybe because her body is still young or maybe because she isn't yet proficient, Yuna was only able to give meaning to one formed fire.

"No hurry, I can slowly create another formed and give meaning to it"

It was already a qualitative leap in having an epiphany and being able to carry out the said epiphany successfully.

Yuna look down at the fire butterfly happily. Her first formed fire and it seems to have quite a meaningful significance to it.

"I will call it Nami Fire"

The book mentions

• Formed element become more pronounced when given a name and being called out

Maybe it was Yuna misconception but she feels that Nami fire seems quite spiritual as it flapped around her fingers. Her misconception or not, since it takes on a living form, Yuna decide to treat it as a spiritual thing.

Even a cold sword can have spiritual awareness.

"Spiritual or not, right now, I need to improve my element holding capacity"

The elemental book mentions about forging a plate but it was in a short concise sentence

• By harnessing the power of nature, smelt and forge the plate by using the five elements.

Just that short simple one line sentence and no further explanation was given on how to enhance and forge a plate.

Yuna the next day approach the apothecary to get clarification who in turn knock her head hard for not learning finish the herbal books but she still gave her an answer about forging the plate which was "Even I don't know, go interpret it however you want yourself"

Which is as good as not explaining… Yuna could only rubs her forehead that turns red from the hard knock, her lips curling up in disdain.

Yuna could only put the plan of forging the plate on hold.

After reading finished the elemental book, Yuna could only honestly reads the Herbal books and diligently learn them. Anyway, she has accepted being an apothecary so she will responsibly thrive to learn it.
