Ascension of Power

Chapter 8: Future Plans

When Mark woke up, he was really happy. His heart was still pounding from what he had experienced last night, and even as he brushed his teeth in the morning, he thought about his bright future with a stupid grin.

Just as Mark was thinking about all this, he suddenly came to his senses with a notification that came

Mark wasn't really surprised when he saw the window in front of him, because he had already learned the system while trying to learn information about this world every evening in his 3-year routine. When all people in this world awaken, they would have a system and they would develop through it.

That morning, Mark thought that he needed to plan his future thoroughly, so he sat down at his modest wooden table on the edge of his room and started to think.

In Mark's new world, elemental affinities would indeed determine a person's limit to a great extent. There were several reasons for this. The simplest of these was that elemental affinity made it easier to acquire any skill about that element, and even starting from "excellent" affinity, the system would reduce the use of mana in the skills used for that element and there were many other privileges like these.

However, the biggest reason why affinities were important was the difference in power between the elements. In this world, people could awaken other, more advanced and powerful elements by having certain affinities with certain elements. Elements were divided into three levels: starter elements, intermediate elements, and superior elements.

The elements Mark awakened were starter level and these elements were space, fire, and earth. Mark could combine the fire and earth elements to create the lava element and by combining the lava and space elements, he could obtain and use the superior level "solar element", but of course he could not use op elements such as solar from the very beginning.

A person could use starter level elements from Tier 1 onwards, intermediate elements from Tier 3, and superior level elements from Tier 5. This was one of the biggest, if not the only, reasons why, although there were dozens of Tier 4s in their country, there were literally too less Tier 5s to exceed the fingers of one hand.

As for the reason why people could not obtain superior elements, it was not because the number of types of these elements was low. According to records, there were hundreds of these elements. Yes, you heard right, you could reach hundreds of different superior elements with hundreds of different combinations. Mark had even read some of these combinations in books. Of course, these records were the records of the citizens of the magnificent empire that Alterran fought against in the Great War. There were not that many people in their own country who reached this level.

Now let's talk about that reason. The reason why superior elements are so less common is that they actually require very high affinity to standard elements. For example, when you reach Tier 3, in order to open any intermediate element, you need to have at least excellent level affinity in the elements required to open that element.

The situation is even worse in Superiors. To unlock a superior element, you must have a "perfect" level of affinity for both elements you use to unlock that element. By the way, to unlock a superior element, you did not necessarily need completely intermediate elements, just like in Mark's case, but you did need at least one intermediate element. On the positive side of the issue, if you use a perfect and excellent level element to open an intermediate-level element, the one with the higher proximity would generally be taken into consideration, and therefore, if there was a perfect level proximity, its proximity to that mid-level element would also be considered "perfect".

The issue of elements was actually a bit complicated. That's why Mark, instead of distracting himself with such complex issues, chose to focus on the Tier 1 wall that stood firm in front of him.
