Ascension of the Mortal God

Chapter 11: Wrath Unleashed

Chapter 11: Wrath Unleashed

The battlefield trembled beneath the raw power unleashed between Kael and Selene Voidclaw. Their weapons clashed, sending shockwaves rippling through the air, forcing the lesser warriors of both factions to retreat to a safe distance. The city ruins surrounding them bore the scars of their struggle, rubble and dust clouding the sky as their battle reached its climax.

Kael gritted his teeth as he barely dodged Selene's razor-sharp claws, which tore through the space he had occupied a mere second ago. Her violet eyes glowed with an eerie intensity, her presence exuding an oppressive force that threatened to crush him. She was fast—faster than anyone he had ever faced before. If not for his heightened reflexes and sheer willpower, he would have been torn apart already.

"I expected more from you, so-called Chosen One," Selene sneered, flicking her wrist to dispel the energy sparks lingering from their last clash. "Was it all just talk?"

Kael wiped the blood trickling down from his temple and steadied his breathing. He couldn't afford to be reckless, not against an opponent like Selene. He had fought gods before, but none had possessed her cunning and sheer brutality.

"You'll see," he said, his voice laced with determination. He tightened his grip on his blade, feeling the energy surge within it. The power he had inherited was vast, but so was the weight of his goal. He wasn't fighting just for himself—he was fighting for every mortal who had been crushed beneath the tyranny of the gods.

Selene smirked. "Then stop holding back."

She vanished from sight.

Kael's instincts screamed at him, and he barely raised his sword in time to block a devastating slash aimed at his throat. The force sent him skidding back, his boots carving deep trails into the broken stone beneath. Selene pursued, her movements a blur as she struck relentlessly. Each attack was precise, calculated to wear him down. He was fast, but she was faster. He was strong, but her strength was unrelenting.

Their battle wove through the shattered remains of the city, toppling ancient pillars and crumbling once-grand structures. Lightning crackled in the sky as their energies collided, each strike illuminating the battlefield like a second sun.

Kael knew he couldn't keep this up. Selene was pushing him into a corner, forcing him on the defensive. He had to turn the tide—now.

As Selene lunged for his chest, Kael twisted his body and let her claws graze past him. In that split second, he channeled his energy and brought his sword down with all his might. The blade connected with her shoulder, sending a shockwave of power rippling through the air.

Selene grunted as she was hurled backward, her feet digging into the ground to slow her momentum. She glanced down at the wound, watching the golden energy crackling around it before it started sealing itself.

"Impressive," she admitted, rolling her shoulder. "But not enough."

Kael exhaled sharply. Even after taking a direct hit, she barely looked fazed. He had to dig deeper. He had to unleash everything.

He centered himself, focusing on the power within. The divine energy surged through his veins, and his aura flared, turning the very air around him into a tempest. His eyes glowed with untamed light, and the runes on his arms pulsed like molten fire.

Selene's lips curled into a grin. "Finally."

She charged.

Kael met her head-on.

The collision shattered the earth beneath them, sending tremors rippling outward. Their battle became a dance of destruction, each movement calculated yet wild, every strike capable of reducing mountains to dust. Kael pushed harder, matching Selene blow for blow, his strength escalating with every clash.

Then, he saw it—an opening.

Selene lunged, her claws aiming for his heart. Instead of dodging, Kael stepped forward, meeting her attack with his own. His sword glowed with unyielding power as he swung in a devastating arc, striking true.

Selene's eyes widened as the blade carved through her armor, energy exploding on impact. She staggered, the force sending her reeling back. Kael didn't let up—he pressed the attack, unleashing a relentless onslaught that drove her to her knees.

Panting, he stood over her, his sword poised for the final blow.

But Selene… laughed.

"You're stronger than I expected," she admitted, wiping the blood from her lips. "I haven't had a fight like this in centuries."

Kael hesitated. He could end it here, but something in her gaze told him the battle wasn't over yet. Selene wasn't just fighting for dominance—she was testing him.

And that realization sent a chill down his spine.

The real battle… was just beginning.
