At The Beginning Of The Novel, The Villain Forced The Protagonist’s Step-Mom To Bear His Children

Chapter 73:

Chapter 73: The Personal Bodyguard Appears! The Heroine is Half-Willing, Half-Hesitant! A Sleepless Night:

Out of gratitude for Xu Hao and the growing affection in her heart, Wang Xueying didn’t refuse.

[Ding! Wang Xueying is shocked, her emotional points +777]

[Ding! Wang Xueying is frightened, her emotional points +888]

[Ding! Wang Xueying’s heart is pounding, her emotional points +999]

In the room—

The decoration was simple and elegant, with a scholarly atmosphere rather than a girly, pink design.

Xu Hao glanced at Wang Xueying and checked the system’s emotional points. It was time to improve himself.

When he looked, he was surprised to see his emotion points had accumulated to 200,000. These were the results of many days of effort.

A small part of these points came from Xiao Wanling during their lessons, proving his method was effective. His step-by-step teaching approach was paying off. However, the emotional points seemed to be decreasing lately.

Was it no longer exclusive?

It seemed like it was time to move to the next step.

He focused again.

With 200,000 emotional points, it was time for a high-quality lottery. But first, he decided to try a simple ten-draw.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have received a reward—8 free attribute points]

Eight attribute points—decent enough and a good sign.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have learned a new skill: Firearms (Master Level)]

Suddenly, a flood of memories filled his mind—firearms knowledge deeply imprinted. As he thought of it, the Desert Eagle he had drawn earlier appeared in his hand.

He played with the gun for a moment. It felt natural in his grip, unlike before when he could barely hold it properly.

Now, he could call himself a sharpshooter.

Still, Xu Hao felt a bit disappointed. As his strength increased, firearms became less useful. He might as well develop alternative techniques, which would also earn him more emotional points.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have drawn four Ming Jin-level dead soldiers]

Xu Hao’s eyes widened. This was great—four dead soldiers drawn at once.

Finally, he could protect all the women in his life. Though these dead soldiers might not provide complete protection, their strength would be enough to handle minor threats or harassment. They could alert him whenever they encountered the protagonist.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have earned a Grandmaster Skill Improvement Card]

A rare and valuable reward.

Now, with grandmaster-level skills in both music and firearms, Xu Hao didn’t feel the need to perfect them further. He decided to wait until he acquired more useful skills.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have drawn two more dead soldiers, mid-stage Ming Jin]

“Is the system malfunctioning?” he wondered. “Since when has it become so generous?”

Well, the more people he had, the better.

Xu Hao had big plans—he wanted to build the world’s most powerful intelligence network, something like the Qin Network he had seen in his past life. By combining intelligence and assassination, he would rule the dark side of the world.

But his current intelligence network was far too weak. He couldn’t even gather complete information on the protagonist. What kind of villain couldn’t track his enemy?

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have drawn one dead soldier, late-stage Ming Jin]

Xu Hao’s eyes lit up. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Could the strength of the dead soldiers be tied to his own power? When he was in the early stage of Ming Jin, he only drew a mid-stage dead soldier. Now that he was in the middle stage, he had drawn a late-stage one.

Perhaps his strength was influencing the rewards.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have drawn an item: a small whip (no marks when used)]

Xu Hao stared at the whip, feeling confused. Was this a joke?

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have received 3 free attribute points]

The rewards were becoming smaller.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have received 9 free attribute points]

That was better.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have learned the skill: Eighteen Martial Arts (Grandmaster Level)]

Another rush of information flooded Xu Hao’s mind. The eighteen martial arts were actually the mastery of ancient weapons: swords, spears, halberds, axes, hooks, forks, and more. All their knowledge and techniques were etched into his memory.

Xu Hao smiled. This was far more useful than a gun. In battles between masters, firearms were often ineffective, but a good weapon could make a real difference.

“It seems I still need to find the right weapon,” he thought.

Taking a deep breath, Xu Hao turned his attention to his remaining 100,000 emotion points.

“System, premium lottery,” he commanded.

[Ding! Congratulations to the host, you have drawn a character: Personal Bodyguard (mid-stage Anjin)]

Xu Hao was stunned. A mid-stage Anjin bodyguard—now that was impressive. This was the benefit of a quality lottery.

With an Anjin expert by his side, Xu Hao could relax a bit and act less cautiously.

Before, he had considered continuing to guide the protagonist Zheng Feifan, but now, with a bodyguard, there was no need. Even if Zheng Feifan knew Xu Hao was the one responsible for his father’s death, he couldn’t do anything about it in this law-governed society.

Xu Hao could control Zheng Feifan at any time. He wasn’t one of those brainless villains who refused to involve the police and insisted on confronting the protagonist directly.

Still, Xu Hao knew not to become overconfident. This world was complex, and he wasn’t the only powerful figure around. Other protagonists might be out there, so he needed to stay cautious and develop steadily.

With the draws complete, Xu Hao checked his rewards—20 free attribute points.

He decided to use them to enhance his physique and strength, leaving his spirit untouched for now.

He allocated ten points to each. Immediately, a familiar warmth filled his body, and all his fatigue from training vanished without a trace.

With a single thought, Xu Hao checked his character panel.

“If I recall correctly, the protagonist, Chen Mo, has a talent score of 89. My master-level close combat skills now rival his, and with my teleportation ability and backup plans, there’s no way I can lose. It’s time to handle him.

Xu Hao’s eyes gleamed as he noticed Wang Xueying stirring, seemingly waking up. The afternoon had slipped by.

Waking up from her nap, Wang Xueying’s mother came out of her bedroom. She found Xu Hao sitting on the sofa, calmly drinking tea, with Wang Xueying by his side, looking like a devoted wife. There was only a pot of tea on the coffee table, not even a fruit plate. The mother frowned.

“Didn’t I buy a lot of fruit? Why didn’t you bring it out? You lack awareness,” she chided. “I told you to entertain Director Xu properly. Is this how you treat him?”

Wang Xueying looked confused. She hadn’t entertained Xu Hao? She had already… given herself to him. She wasn’t even sure how it happened. When they were together, she had slowly lost herself, surrendering to Xu Hao’s tenderness, driven by gratitude and the emotional stirrings in her heart. Before she knew it, everything had already happened. Now, she was filled with regret and frustration.

Xu Hao’s age didn’t matter; though he seemed to be in his thirties, he was as strong as a bull. But he was a family man, and as a teacher, her involvement in this could cause real trouble if discovered. Xu Hao’s long-standing reputation would be at risk, and her own career could be damaged. However, what’s done is done, and it was too late for regrets. She decided to think of it as a fleeting encounter, a memory to move past.

“Director Xu,” she said softly after collecting herself, “what we did was wrong. Can we just treat it as an accident? After today, let’s return to being friends…”

“Alright,” Xu Hao replied without hesitation, sensing she was emotionally unstable. He knew women rarely meant what they said in moments like these. Once it happens the first time, there’s always a second, a third… and more.

Wang Xueying’s mother started heading toward the kitchen to fetch some fruit, but Xu Hao stopped her.

“No need, it’s getting late. I had a wonderful conversation with Xueying today,” Xu Hao said, glancing at the darkening sky.

As he turned back, he gave Wang Xueying a teasing wink. She quickly lowered her head, fidgeting nervously with the hem of her clothes, her face flushed with embarrassment. Xu Hao smiled inwardly. They hadn’t just talked…

Her mother wasn’t ready to let him leave. “It’s nearly dinnertime. It would be rude to let you go now. Why don’t you stay for dinner?” she insisted.

However, she suddenly remembered that all the fresh ingredients she bought in the morning had already been used up for lunch. There was nothing left but leftovers. How could she serve that to a guest? She slapped her forehead in frustration.

“Oh, what am I thinking? We don’t have fresh food at home. Why don’t we go out to eat?”

Wang Xueying, now even more embarrassed, quickly agreed. After all, Xu Hao had helped her mother, and she couldn’t just let him leave like that.

“Director Xu, my mother’s right. It’s late, we should have a meal together before you go.”

Her mother chimed in, “Xueying, go out with Mr. Xu and pick a nice restaurant. Don’t be stingy.”

Xu Hao didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. After all, he had used some favors to get the hospital director involved, bringing in experts and professors for treatment. A meal seemed like a small price to pay. Wang Xueying, however, felt a surge of anxiety.

“Aren’t you coming with us?” she asked her mother.

With the tension between her and Xu Hao, she wasn’t sure if she could keep her emotions under control. Spending more time alone with him might lead to another impulsive moment, and Xu Hao’s status didn’t allow for this kind of relationship. She had to maintain her distance and forget what had happened.

Her mother, oblivious to her inner turmoil, replied, “No, the doctor told me to rest for now. Besides, you two young people will enjoy yourselves more without me tagging along.”

Wang Xueying felt a wave of nervousness wash over her. How was she supposed to properly thank Xu Hao for all he’d done? Unconsciously, she turned to glance at him and saw him looking at her with a knowing expression. Her face turned beet red as her heart raced.

On the other hand, Xu Hao was deep in thought. He had planned to meet the bodyguard he had recently summoned, but the mother kept pushing her daughter toward him. If he didn’t respond to the situation, it would feel wrong. Though the afternoon had been enjoyable, Xu Hao wouldn’t mind getting to know this beautiful teacher more intimately. Maybe, over time, she’d fall for him, offering herself willingly. She was a strict role model at school, but in front of him, she was completely different. The contrast fascinated him.

After saying their goodbyes to Wang Xueying’s mother, they left for a romantic Western restaurant where Xu Hao had already booked a private VIP room. The room’s cozy ambiance immediately caught Wang Xueying off guard. She hadn’t expected this level of thoughtfulness from Xu Hao.

“Since today is special for us, how about a drink to celebrate?” Xu Hao suggested, uncorking a bottle of red wine.

Wang Xueying blushed at his words. It sounded almost like they were celebrating their wedding night. In a way, it was true—today was her first time with him.

She stared at the deep red wine in her glass, feeling a bit nervous. Was Xu Hao hoping for more to happen while they drank? She dismissed the thought quickly. After all, they had already spent the entire afternoon together. Just a little wine wouldn’t hurt…

The two exchanged glasses, enjoying their candlelit dinner. Whenever Wang Xueying finished her glass, Xu Hao refilled it, and though she felt embarrassed, she continued to drink.

Xu Hao knew not to let her get too drunk. He wasn’t interested in taking advantage of her—he wanted her to enjoy the night, relaxed and happy.

When dinner was over, Wang Xueying looked outside, noticing it was getting late. She decided it was time to head home. As she stood up, however, she felt Xu Hao’s hand gently but firmly wrap around her waist, preventing her from leaving.

“Director Xu, didn’t you promise we’d treat today as if it never happened?” she asked nervously.

Xu Hao’s lips curled into a playful smile. “You said today. The day isn’t over yet, is it?”

Wang Xueying paused, realizing he was right. She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, Xu Hao leaned in, leaving her speechless.
