Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Artemis

"Well, questions aside, I need to find a city or town. Actually, camping might not be a bad option either," I muttered to myself before moving on to assess my clothes.

I looked down, finally taking in what I was wearing. A flowing white robe with gold accents draped over my body—sleeveless and loose, yet somehow a perfect fit. Golden embroidery traced elegant patterns across the fabric, almost divine in design. It felt expensive, like something a god would wear, but at the same time, it was too lightweight to feel practical.

Hanging around my neck was a long, green scarf-like wrap that trailed down my back. It had a strange weight to it, almost symbolic, like it wasn't just cloth but something greater. Considering Enkidu's chains, I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't just for show.

Golden bands and bracelets decorated my arms and legs, adding a regal touch. They weren't heavy, but they definitely stood out. And, of course, I was barefoot—fitting for the original Enkidu.

If nothing else, I looked graceful, untouchable, and otherworldly. A mix between a warrior and something closer to an ancient god's priest. Honestly, it was a bit too lacking for my taste, but I couldn't deny that I looked incredible. Handsome, beautiful—whatever you wanted to call it.

I mean, I was literally Enkidu. And straight or not, anyone could admit he was good-looking. Then again, calling Enkidu a "he" felt weird, considering he was technically an "it", a divine construct rather than a person. But whatever.

Grabbing the scarf-wrap, I tied my hair into a high ponytail. It was light rather than bulky, making it perfect for keeping my hair in place—for now.

I moved my attention from my clothes to my next goal.

I took a step forward, beginning the long walk—

"STOP!"

Fwoosh~!

'Or not.'

An arrow buried itself in the ground, right where my foot was about to land. The shaft was sleek, the fletching pristine—high-quality, no doubt. But I wasn't exactly an expert on arrows, so I couldn't say much beyond that.

What I could say, however, was that it radiated something—an energy I could feel rather than see. Warm, yet abhorrently disgusting.

I didn't have time to dwell on it as a stunningly beautiful woman emerged from the surrounding forest. Long, flowing blue hair cascaded down her back, framing sharp emerald-green eyes that seemed to pierce through everything they landed on.

She wore a simple yet elegant white and pale blue tunic, adorned with subtle golden accents. Nothing about her appearance was overly extravagant—just a presence that was calm, strong, and undeniably purposeful.

And yet, much like the arrow, I felt disgusted.

"Can I help you, woman?" I asked, annoyed. I couldn't even hide my disgust—it felt innate, like I was born to hate whatever energy radiated from both the arrow and the woman.

She scoffed. "Help me? No, you evil being!"

"Evil?" I matched her scoff, not understanding her words. Although I wasn't completely stupid—I figured she was talking about my Cursed Energy. But how did that constitute me being evil?

"You must be kidding! With that cold and vile power radiating from you, there is no other reasoning than you being scum."

"Woman. I don't have to explain myself to you, but allow me to correct your misunderstanding. Evil is subjective, and to falsely accuse me based on your sense of it? That's truly scummy."

She stared at me, eyes scanning me up and down. Then, after a long moment, she waved her hand, nodding slightly.

After her little gesture, another group emerged from the forest, following the same path she had taken earlier.

"What the hell?" I cursed internally, but my Cursed Energy let me feel something—a connection with negative emotions. I could sense it radiating off them, but none of them felt too dangerous. Except for this blue-haired woman. There was something about her that made me want to puke.

"Rethusa." The blue-haired woman spoke, and another girl ran up to her.

The newcomer had medium-length reddish-brown hair and matching reddish-brown eyes. Her attire consisted of a dark and light green outfit, complemented by a brown sash, a belt, small holders strapped to both arms, and long black gloves.

"Yes, Artemis-sama?"

'Artemis? That's her name? Like the goddess of hunting, purity, and the moon?'

Something clicked.

"Maybe that's it…" I muttered under my breath, drawing Artemis's full attention once more.

"What is it?" she asked.

"I believe I just figured out why I disgust you." I said offhandedly.

"What!? How dare—" Rethusa stepped forward aggressively, but Artemis stopped her.

"Do tell." Her voice was calm but firm. "I am interested, because I feel the same disgust toward you and it's far stronger than normal."

I smirked. "Ha. You're tied to some divinity, aren't you?"

She nodded. "I am a goddess, after all."

"Then it makes sense. Your divine energy is drastically different from my Cursed Energy."

"Cursed Energy? I've never heard of such a thing. I know of curses, but this energy you speak of is non-existent."

"Yeah, believe what you want." I rolled my eyes. I was a living embodiment of Cursed Energy, but whatever. You couldn't convince someone who refused to believe something, even if the proof was standing right in front of them.

'Divine energy must be positive-attributed energy, similar to Reversed Cursed Energy. If I can figure that out, maybe this disgusting feeling will go away.'

I looked at Artemis and her little crew before asking: "So, what now?"

"I can at least tell you aren't completely evil. You have some sense, so I'll spare you—for now. But don't think for a second that you're leaving my sight, you disgusting bast—"

"Correct yourself, woman. The name is Enkidu."

"Tch." Artemis scoffed. "Fine. Then, Enkidu, are you fine with surveillance?"

"No. However, you definitely live in the best city, right? So, I'll gladly take a free escort."

"YOU SO—"

Rethusa again, temper flaring.

'Interesting. It seemed this woman had a quick temper when it came to Artemis.'

A good thing to note.
