Avatar: God Of Bending

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Aang To The Rescue

Walking through the air temple, I navigated through the complex architecture, which I will say is unnecessary, but I digress. I then headed down a myriad of stairs and arrived at the lower portion of the air temple, where the hot spring was located; spotting a lack of air nomads, considering it was still relatively early in the morning, I stripped myself of my monk clothes, which, despite being not so stylish, was very comfortable and allowed for ease of movement, something me, and I'm sure the other air nomads, loved.

'Though, I don't know how I feel about being bald.' Mused Aang lightly as he peeked over the edge and looked at himself in the reflection of the water, eyeing his young face and bald head before narrowing his eyes, causing the water to ripple subtly.

Stepping into the hot spring, I fully submerged myself in the warm, soothing water before allowing myself to float atop it as I looked up at the morning sky, taking in the beautiful sight of the clouds and glancing at the occasional Sky Bison flying through the air, sometimes even in pairs or trios, which caused my mind to drift toward my wife and unborn child.

'I had asked for my wife and child to be reborn within my time period, but since I was reborn as Aang, what exactly counts as his time period? Will it be now? Before Sozin and the Fire Nation attacks? Or will it be in a hundred years? When he, or me, is found by Katara and Sokka?' Thought Aang with furrowed brows as he looked up at the sky, watching a family of Sky Bison fly through the air while the parents tried to teach their child, who ended up failing and nearly fell, thought the father caught her with his enormous tail.

These were rather vital questions; if they were reborn now, before the hundred-year war, then they would be in danger, though, given that they also got the same aptitude as me when it comes to bending, so long as they practice whatever bending they were born with somewhat, they should be able to survive.

'However, this is all under the assumption they were reborn as benders; if they weren't, it doesn't matter how talented they are; they won't last long against the forces of the Fire Nation.' Pondered Aang with a faint frown as he watched the little Sky Bison attempt to fly again; while she made slight progress, she ended up falling once more.

Seeing the young Sky Bison fall, I glanced at the parents, who were both diving right towards her, though they were just a bit too slow and out of reach; they wouldn't make it in time before their child hit the ground, and given her flustered state, she wasn't going to be able to stop herself either.

Frowning, I waved my arms, summoning the power of the air as I leaped out of the hot spring and glided through the air while nearing the falling Sky Bison, though unlike them, I couldn't fly, so I was merely falling with grace, unlike the child before me. Watching her fall through the fog beneath me, I dispersed the vortex around me, causing me to fall down while I once again waved my hands before slamming them against the air, using the air as propulsion to fling me like a dart.

Entering the thick, dense fog, I collapsed my hands together and closed my eyes, intently focused while plunging to my death before I summoned all the power of the wind and slammed my hands against the air parallel to me, surging forth a powerful gust of wind in all directions as I dispelled the fog in roughly a fifty-meter diameter around me, which allowed my to see the numerous sharp, jagged rocks at the base of the Air Temple.

'Well, I see why only those with Sky Bison can access the Southern Air Temple.' Thought Aang calmly while eyeing the uncountable number of sharp, jagged rocks that were ready to skewer anything that was unlucky enough to fall.

Ignoring the rapidly approaching deadly spikes below, I glanced at the Sky Bison in the distance before taking a big breath and exhaling with all my might, pushing me through the air as I swiftly approached the Sky Bison; once I got close, I grabbed on of her legs as I surged a mighty gust of wind to form a vortex below us. I could not fly by myself, so there was no way I could do so while carrying a couple of hundred-pound Sky Bison, but it helped in slowing our fall, even more so when the child tried to use the vortex to fly, which, in the end, gave us enough time for the Father to swoop right underneath the two of us before swiftly flying upwards.

Once the Father and the Mother emerged from above the thick fog, the mother grabbed her young using two of her six legs, almost as if she was hugging her; the Father quickly joined as well, while I grabbed onto his fur lest I fall off.

'I'm really going to have to wash myself after this.' Thought Aang softly as he sniffed the Sky Bison, only to shake his head lightly.

Once the three finished their little reunion, the Father flew towards the hot spring where I was originally and gently landed, prompting me to gracefully land beside him. Turning around, I was about to say something, but before I could, he gave a small roar before licking my entire body with his massive tongue, covering me in his saliva, which was followed by the mother doing the same thing and then finally the child, though despite her small stature compared to her parents, she was still able to lick my whole body.

"You're welcome." Replied Aang gently as he gave the Sky Bison a slight bow, causing them to roar gently before they flapped their large tails, creating a gust of wind with each flap.

Watching the two fly into the sky, I gently waved at them as I glanced at the child, who was resting atop her mother's back; once they left view, I lowered my hand and looked down at my saliva-covered body.

"I suppose it's good I need to take a bath." Muttered Aang lightly as he stepped into the hot spring while intensely scrubbing his body using a bar of soap.

Leaping up the numerous flights of stairs using a small vortex underneath my foot, I quickly headed back towards the training grounds. I had already disobeyed Monk Gyatso's words by training without his supervision, so I didn't need to upset him more by being late as well.

Leaping up the last flight of stairs with a mighty burst of wind, I soared through the air, gazing at the training ground where I was previously practicing, which was currently filled with roughly thirty or so children just like me sitting in seiza position. Landing on the ground, my sudden arrival garnered a lot of eyes, with most looking at me in fascination since I was the only child who could air bend with such a high mastery compared to my peers. Heck, let alone the basics, which my class is still learning, I was close to mastering the intermediate techniques of air-bending, which is usually only accomplished by air nomads in their mid-twenties.

'Now that I think about it a little, I'm almost four years old, and I first started air bending not too long after I learned how to walk, so within roughly three years, I've made progress that would take the majority of Air Nomads nearly two and half decades. That wish to be talented for sure wasn't wasted.' Thought Aang lightly as he glanced at his fellow air nomads in training before swiftly finding his spot, which was at the front in the exact middle.

Sitting in a seiza like everyone else, I silently waited for Monk Gyatso to arrive while the other children quietly talked among themselves; although I never purposefully tried to be, I was quite an outcast among the children. I spent most of my time refining, training, and practicing my air bending while the children liked to goof around, which is entirely understandable; they are children, after all, so it's only expected, though because of that, I've unknowingly distanced myself from them.

'Unfortunate, but that's fine; the more people I have in my life, the more they will take away from my time to master bending.' Mused Aang softly as he slightly opened his eyes, looking around, only to clasp his hands together, manipulating the air around the group of children, creating a gentle vortex.

"Aang." Said Monk Gyatso in a slightly stern voice as he slowly approached the group while looking at Aang, who instantly lowered his hands, causing the vortex to disperse swiftly.

'Haa, terrible timing.' Thought Aang lightly as he opened his eyes and looked at Gyatso, who narrowed his eyes before shaking his head and clearing his throat while standing at the front of the group of children, causing them to quiet down.

"It is time for us to begin training young Air Nomads, but before we do so since you enjoy practicing so much, Aang, could you give everyone a demonstration of air bending?" Remarked Gyatso with a faint smile as he gazed at the numerous young eyes, only to glance at Aang, who gently nodded, prompting him to take a few steps backward while Aang stood upright.
