Back to the 60s: The Struggle Career of a Charmed Wife

Chapter 1864: Leaving My Hometown 4

After packing the luggage and getting the household registration procedures for the children handled by Wang Zhenguo, Feng Qingxue went to see Lu Jiang's father.

She had some money after selling off review materials and took out a full thousand to give to the old man.

"Ajiang specifically told me to leave you plenty of money. Buy whatever you want without hesitation. If you run short on money, just contact us, and we'll send more over."

Lu Jiang's father smiled and said, "The money you gave me last time is still not spent, there's no need to give more."

Though treasure hunting on Taobao could be pricey, the items he bought weren't very expensive, and he couldn't always travel to the city frequently. Huaibei City wasn't like the Capital City or Shanghai, where antiques abound, so a few hundred yuan a year was more than enough.

Cheng Baoguo and Wang Cuilan were present, and they said, "Xiaoxue, you don't need to leave money. My and your third uncle's retirement pension is enough to cover our expenses."

Hearing this, Feng Qingxue quickly said, "How could I let my dad and Xibao spend your and Uncle's money? If others knew, they'd laugh at us. Save your and Uncle's pension for your own retirement."

She and Lu Jiang weren't that thick-skinned.

Wang Cuilan said nonchalantly, "What's the need for dividing who's whose in a family? Isn't it you all who will look after us in old age? I'm pleased to let you spend our pension! Besides, it's always been said that living in the Capital City isn't easy. Your whole family has to spend money on food, clothing, shelter, and transportation there. The kids are learning calligraphy and painting, and Fubao's musical talent shouldn't be wasted, nurturing them isn't cheap. Now you've bought a TV too; your salaries can't withstand such expenses!"

Feng Qingxue scratched her head and giggled, "We'll just have to be more frugal in the future."

The salaries for her and Lu Jiang were well above average, especially Lu Jiang, who earned over three hundred a month, but high consumption on her part, wanting to buy everything, couldn't be sustained, so if they couldn't increase their income, they had to cut back on spending.

After a round of discussions, Lu Jiang's father eventually accepted the money, but he only took two hundred.

"In the past two years, Xibao and I have bought a lot of things, packed into two large suitcases beneath your bed. Don't forget to take them away before you leave and store them safely."

Feng Qingxue understood and nodded with a smile, as this was Lu Jiang's father's way of reminding her to quietly store them in her space.

Cheng Baoguo and Wang Cuilan merely thought he was asking Feng Qingxue to stash them away, not giving it much thought.

By nightfall, when all was quiet and her daughter was sleeping soundly beside her, Feng Qingxue stealthily pulled the box out from under the bed, putting the items into the empty suitcase in her space.

They weren't invaluable items, but in decades, they would be of significant worth.

Feng Qingxue left the box beneath the bed, making it convenient for Lu Jiang's father and grandson to continue their endeavors in the future.

Next, she packed some unnoticed items into her space and stocked up on some grain in the cellar, then slept peacefully.

The children were all excited about the trip to Shanghai, acting like they forgot the sadness of departure, and early in the morning, they were urging Feng Qingxue to get up. Lu Erxiong even shouldered his army-green canvas bag, stuffed full, though what was in it remained a mystery.

As the tractor was still grinding, Lu Tianzhi and Guan Yu borrowed two mule carts to take Feng Qingxue and the children.

No matter how much they reduced, the luggage still piled up high; one carriage couldn't take them all at once.

Fortunately, mailing is very convenient now. As soon as they arrived in Huaibei City, they sent the parcels first. After lunch, the three brothers helped them purchase train tickets, and they boarded the express train that went straight to Shanghai.
