Chapter 1917: A New Year (Part 1)
A few days after making grand ambitions, Feng Qingxue returned to work after taking leave.
On her first day back, just as she was getting into the rhythm of work, the military hospital scheduled three surgeries for her: a minor one the next day, and two major ones three days and five days later.
Having been on break for so long, Feng Qingxue felt a bit uneasy and decided to put aside all distractions and devote herself wholeheartedly to her work.
Every day she left early and returned late, and even worked overtime, leaving her no time to pay attention to her children when they went to visit Adrian on Sundays.
Fortunately, Lu Jiang and Ye Zhengjun each assigned an orderly to accompany the children, so there was no need to worry about safety. Sometimes, when Ye Zhengjun refused to act his age, he would personally take the children out, and it was quite a spectacle.
Compared to Lu Jiang, the former superior living in Jade Spring Mountain, who had not yet returned to work, was quite leisurely.
Ye Zhengjun and Lu Jiang strongly supported the former superior's return to duty. Naturally, Wang Xinsheng would not oppose his nephew, and Zhou Fengchun was also a supporter. While Lu Shuai and General Xu were observing, they leaned in their direction, but being outnumbered, the higher-ups consistently disagreed; it was the second rejection. Instead, amid the recent disruption of power struggles and gains, there was considerable chaos.
Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue, aware of history, did not expect that despite their efforts, some aspects of history quietly changed, while other developments steadfastly progressed in accordance with historical trajectories.
In this atmosphere, the new year abruptly arrived.
Although last year's events were overwhelming, this year's New Year's Day was not festive enough, but people are forgetful; the deceased have passed, and the living should live as they must, with holidays still observed.
Feng Qingxue was not in a good mood; she had to work overtime as there was a major surgery that day.
In the morning, Lu Jiang dropped her off at the hospital and entered her office, "I'll bring you something nice to eat at noon."
"No, you should stay home and look after the kids. I don't know when this surgery will end; your meal might get cold before I even have a chance to eat it." Feng Qingxue tucked her shiny black braid under her cap, took off her military coat, put on a white coat, and turned to her husband, "If you have nothing to do, take the kids to the city for a walk, visit Sister Xuenian, and see how Acheng and Wenxiu are doing; check if they need any help, and bring along some review materials to encourage them to study hard."
Looking at the busy hospital, with many patients and few doctors, and the nurses working tirelessly, and with the current uncertain situation, she expected to be busy for quite a while, and there was nothing that could be done about it.
Lu Jiang pondered slightly, "Will they take the college entrance exams?"
Feng Qingxue shrugged, "We've given them the opportunity; how they choose is up to them. The Guan Family was a Scholar Gentry back in the day, and I see that Guan Cheng is determined to restore their family's status, so he will surely advance in his studies. I calculated that our children are within the age range for the exam, though I'm not sure if Xiaoyun will be able to come back."
Lu Jiang laughed, "Xiaoyun is studying abroad at a music academy, and she won't have completed the necessary degree; it's unlikely she'll return to attend university domestically, so you shouldn't worry about that. Tianjun also won't be taking the college entrance exams."
After Feng Qingxue emphasized the importance of knowledge, Jiang Xiaoyue conveyed it to her husband, who later enrolled in a military academy course based on his merits.
"Got it, got it, I was just talking; can't I even gossip a little?" Feng Qingxue nudged him out, "It's almost time to start working, head home; I need to do my rounds."
