Ch. 12
Chapter 12: Ten Directions of Chaos
At this moment, a verdant green venomous snake was coiled near Chen Beiwu's clavicle.
The snake was about three feet long, its entire body covered in fine scales that shimmered with a jade-green luster, as if forged from emerald.
Its head was flat and triangular, eyes like crystalline amber, and as its tongue flickered in and out, strands of spiritual energy from heaven and earth gathered around it.
[Species]: Verdant Scale Serpent (Commonly known as “Three-Step Collapse”)
[Attributes]: Wood, Poison
[Bloodline]: First-Tier Low Grade (Exotic Beast)
[Cultivation Years]: Over ten years
[Innate Ability]: Verdant Illusory Venom (Its fangs contain potent venom that can corrode the mana of cultivators below Late-Stage Qi Refining, inducing deadly hallucinations.)
Recognizing the identity of this venomous snake, Chen Beiwu held his breath, slowed his heartbeat to the lowest possible rhythm, and gathered an imperceptible wisp of mana at his fingertip.
Sensing the fluctuation of spiritual power, the verdant snake's vertical pupils contracted, its body instinctively tightened, raising its head slowly toward Chen Beiwu’s fingertip.
This was the pre-attack warning stance the Verdant Scale Serpent took when sensing danger.
Feeling the icy chill against his skin, Chen Beiwu grew increasingly calm and flicked his finger lightly.
“Bang!”
The distant grass burst apart with a crash, instantly drawing the serpent’s attention toward the spiritual disturbance.
Now’s the time!
Seizing the opportunity, Chen Beiwu instantly activated the protective talisman on him with his internal mana, while his right hand, empowered by mana, precisely shot toward the serpent’s vital point at lightning speed.
“Crack!”
Lifting the foul-smelling, rigid serpent, Chen Beiwu stood up swiftly.
‘Strange, wasn’t the Verdant Scale Serpent already extinct?’
Chen Beiwu examined his surroundings carefully, noticing the ancient trees with roots intertwining and trunks so thick ten people would struggle to encircle one—each of them was a thousand-year-old tree recorded in books.
The air was filled with the fragrance of unknown wildflowers.
‘Could it be that I’ve transmigrated again?’
Chen Beiwu stared blankly at the scene before him, carefully feeling the icy chill from his fingertips.
“Roar!”
Just then, a beast’s roar resounded from the distant mountains, echoing through the clouds. Its sheer volume shook the dew off the treetops.
‘Not good, that’s a Sonic Tremor from a Spirit Beast!’ Chen Beiwu’s expression changed drastically, immediately deciding to escape.
Ordinary Second-Tier Spirit Beasts couldn’t produce such a Sonic Tremor; usually, only Lesser Beasts with over fifty years of cultivation could emit it.
Although in ancient times Lesser Beasts were considered mere ants among the Beast Race, not even worthy of a ninth-rate role in novels or chronicles—
If placed within real-world cultivation hierarchies, a Second-Tier Lesser Beast would equate to a rogue cultivator at Foundation Establishment, far beyond what a Qi Refining cultivator like Chen Beiwu could handle.
“Buzz!”
As if responding to his thoughts, a wave of obscure information suddenly flooded Chen Beiwu’s mind.
[Divine Ability]: Ten Directions of Chaos. Using the Nine-Breath Energy Absorption Technique as a primer, one can channel the initial awakening power of the Chaotic Realm to freely traverse the Gates of Ten Directions of Chaos and leave behind unique spatial anchor points throughout the world.
“Roar!”
Sensing the approaching roar, Chen Beiwu pressed his right hand to his heart, using the Nine-Breath Energy Absorption Technique to draw upon the power of the Chaotic Realm and actively summon the Gate of Ten Directions of Chaos.
In the next instant, golden light enveloped Chen Beiwu’s body, then tore through space and vanished completely from this world, leaving not the slightest trace of his aura.
Shortly after Chen Beiwu disappeared, lightning exploded in the area as a giant beast burst forth.
Its head resembled that of a lion or tiger, standing two zhang tall, and its entire body was covered in dark purple scales.
Its eyes were like copper bells, and a single spiraled horn jutted from its forehead, wrapped in silver lightning patterns that crackled with violent thunderbolts.
Some of the lightning struck the ground, scorching black pits into it; others slammed into its exposed fangs, forming layers of purple-golden bone spurs exuding a fierce and savage aura.
This beast was the ruler of the mountain range—Cang Thunder Tiger, a Second-Tier Spirit Beast with two hundred and eighty-eight years of cultivation.
Cang Thunder Tiger sniffed slightly and gazed toward the trampled grass on the ground, its vertical pupils showing a hint of confusion.
...
When the dazzling golden light faded, Chen Beiwu found himself back in his home cultivation room.
The cold Verdant Scale Serpent in his right hand seemed to remind him that everything earlier had not been an illusion.
He had truly traversed to a mysterious world with the help of the Gate of Ten Directions of Chaos—and slain a Verdant Scale Serpent.
‘Phew, stay calm!’ Chen Beiwu exhaled deeply, suppressing his inner shock and excitement.
He had always enjoyed reading miscellaneous books like Ten Thousand Exotic Beasts, or he wouldn’t have been able to identify the Verdant Scale Serpent so quickly.
The Verdant Scale Serpent was an exotic beast from the Middle Ages, with extremely high environmental requirements—usually appearing only in regions thick with spiritual energy and medicinal herbs, making it impossible to raise artificially.
It had already gone extinct during the Immortal Alliance era and now only existed in written records.
Its snake blood could enhance a cultivator’s Companion Beast’s sensitivity to spiritual energy; its skin and scales could be used as medicine.
But most precious of all was its gallbladder, which could serve as a high-grade substitute for spirit stones, accelerating Qi Refining, and its value was immeasurable.
Based on this information and the incredibly dense spiritual energy of the other world, Chen Beiwu could roughly confirm one point—
The other side of the Gate of Ten Directions of Chaos might be a new world yet undiscovered by the Immortal Alliance, or perhaps a hidden paradise within its territory, teeming with cultivation resources.
‘To freely traverse space and time under the Immortal Alliance’s formations... I’ve clearly underestimated the power of Nine-Breath Chaos!’ As Chen Beiwu sighed with emotion, countless thoughts churned in his mind.
Perhaps the Seven-Colored Fortuitous Encounter triggered earlier by his divine ability had been pointing to tonight’s Gate of Ten Directions of Chaos.
If that were true, then the power of the seven-colored fate might be far greater than he had imagined.
The next morning, Chen Beiwu left for class as usual, under Iron Egg’s watchful eyes.
From the outside, one couldn’t tell that Chen Beiwu had stayed up the entire night.
“Strange, why are you so early today? Don’t you usually arrive right on time?” Xu Lingling was clearly surprised.
Chen Beiwu glanced at her but couldn’t be bothered to reply, instead sorting through information in his mind—something he often did in his past life as a model student from a small town.
Although he had only crossed over once, based on last night’s experimentation and reflection, he had pieced together some basic facts about the Gate of Ten Directions of Chaos.
First, time in the other world seemed to flow at roughly the same rate as in the Immortal Alliance. One minute there equaled about one minute here.
Second, activating the Gate required a delay of one to two breaths. If he were disturbed during this period, the teleportation would be interrupted.
Therefore, it was best to find a safe location before each transfer or complete the pre-casting early to finish the teleportation instantly at a critical moment.
Third, the spiritual energy density in the other world was ten times higher than that of a First-Tier Mid Grade cultivation room—equivalent to a Second-Tier Low Grade spirit vein, fully meeting his cultivation needs.
However, one point required special caution: the richer the spiritual energy, the more likely powerful Beast Creatures would emerge.
If he wanted to explore the other world, he had to prepare thoroughly—otherwise, he could die there and become food for the beasts.
