(POV GENERAL)

On the outskirts of Gotham city in Chinatown a red phone emitted a bright light in the shape of a figure.

As the light disappeared the figure became more clear to be Josh in his Shift costume.

Without a second later Shift ran across the tops of buildings searching for anything he could find pertaining to the symbol of the robotic vulture he had defeated with the help of Artemis and SuperBoy.

Thanks to Batman's coordinated Shift knew of the activity within a certain part of Gotham and began to search for any clues.

Several hours pass and morning was soon upon us until an alarming sound resounded around Josh's ears.

Shift wanting to find clues had placed it on hold following the sound of the alarm bringing him to Ace Chemicals.

Smoke escaped from the top of the building while fire attempted its own escape out the many windows and air ducts from the building.

'Oh this will be fun.'

Is the only thought that could escape him. After finding a ledge to jump on, Shift jumped onto Ace Chemicals using the roof door to get inside the building.

Where there's fire, smoke follows. Polluting the air makes most who breathed it slowly pass out. But thanks to Shift's mask the smoke was filtered out of it only providing a set of oxygen to his lungs. Stopping the pollution from entering his lungs.

After a few minutes of searching through the blaze of fire something became very apparent.

There were no scientists, no workers, no one was in the building. This got weirder as time went on. Shift soon crossed a corner seeing a man with a large canister with two hoses attached from the can to the man's arms shooting out a wingspan of flame. 

Shift continued to watch, avoiding anything that might give him away as he heard something peculiar out of the mysterious person's mouth.

"Where is it if I don't find it the Doctor won't be pleased!"

Whoever the "Doctor" was seemed important so Shift continued to watch until the figure turned around revealing his chest plate with the same vampiric symbol that was found on the Vulture and the Polka-Dot man.

Once viewed, Shift wasted no time and wanted to react however a thought kept him at bay.

"What if he could lead me to this Doctor?"

This was the only leash that kept Shift from stopping this thing from burning down Ace Chemicals.

Thankfully that didn't last long as the figure continuously burned until a secret vault was revealed. Where after five minutes of forced flame the vault melted revealing his prize. 

Being a handheld cooler with a radioactive biohazard symbol on the front of it. The arsonist opened the lid of the cooler seeing his prize and happily cackled. 

"The Doctor will-"

But before the arsonist could finish the sounds of both the incoming Sirens and the crumbling of wood began to wain.

The Arsonist quickly closed the cooler and ran towards the exit. Unknowingly being followed by Shift. The Arsonist quickly zoomed through the debris of the fire easily zipping around until he reached a certain wall.

Theo Arsonist looked towards the debris at his feet and looked around testing his gut feeling of being followed. Shift picking up on the Arsonists insights covered himself utilizing the smoke and debris hiding his form as he quietly watched.

After seeing if he was followed and coming to a decision the Arsonist looked at the debris lifting it up revealing a man hole leading to the sewer. 

Once the debris was lifted off the Arsonist did something odd. He began to remove his suit, unzipping his equipment, revealing a horrid sight.

The Arsonist wasn't a man, it was a mutant of a rat with a man head stitched together with the string barely holding it together. 

The human-rat mutant then stripped bare revealing its bottom of rat appendages being its feet and rat tail while its top still contained rat fur however it had human arms.

Once fully unclothed the rat mutant jumped down the cover causing many questions to stir and a major interest in this "Doctor."

Shift after making sure the coast was clear dove after the Ratman and landed in a sewage puddle which echoed along the walls bouncing until they reached all ears within distance.

Shift currently with his fist down on the ground looking for track mumbling whispered to himself in contempt "well so much for stealth."

Shift stayed still and by using his left hand touched a hidden button on his helmet activating a visor. Once unlocked the visor Shift stood straight with some sewage in his hand scanning it for any way of tracking.

Thankfully the visor after an in depth scan of the sewage found a strand of fur which contained numerous amounts of synthetic compounds. Which is easily trackable with a live sample which was in Shift's grasp.

After completely scanning the fur a trial was formed in the shape of an orange mist from Shifts Visor leading down the hall Eastward. Once the path was made Shift ran following it like a cat to his mouse. Causing a slight snicker at his joke.

'God my sense of humor needs improvement.'

After a span of twenty minutes of following the trail and staying out of sight from any eyes or other senses. Which was difficult as shift himself could smell the difference. 

 Once to terms with his new smell Shift proceeded forward encroaching on a huge sewer grate which seemed to be a disguised gate. Once Shift arrived and hidden behind the wall covering his position and pressed the button on his mask he used earlier deactivating the visor. Returning his mask to normal. 

Looked out from the side analyzing what laid ahead, surprised at the sight. A small entrance at the top of it. Shift could effortlessly enter if not for the guards who seemed to be inhuman.

The numbers weren't important but there was one for each side of the gate. On the left side was a creature that was human if not for the abundance of heads sewed to each other creating a bouquet of flowers with each eye fogged out. Showing white iris that seemed like a clouded lens counting ten in all.

The one on the right of the gate's entrance was another form of Human/Animal mutant. The creature was a tie between both a woman and a penguin. The reason how Shift could tell was that the face of this penguin had. Yes a penguin head but the beak and face was replaced with a womens. Whos eyes just like its companion had whited out eyes. 

Everything else was similar to the body of a Penguin except for the stitchings all along its body keeping it together by a literal thread.

Shift laid bare to this peculiar sight, disgusted about what they were seeing and coming to the terms that these poor people weren't humans anymore. 

Shift placed his left hand over his sword preparing for what was to come and watched, waited, and then struck. Running towards the left sentry the multi headed creature. With a swift strike of the sword Shift was able to hit the creature but not fatally only able to scratch one of its many cheeks.

Both creatures after the multi headed one dodged the attack went into a position for combat with the penguin at the front while the multi headed one stayed in the back seemingly to provide support.

Once their positions were met the Penguin looked to Shift She raised her wings and bowed her head seemingly to charge. The Penguin then after slamming its right flipper down the Penguin charged forward aiming for Shift. 

Shift was easily able to dodge such a forward attack however something unexpected happened the Penguin opened its mouth releasing an eight foot tentacle. The tentacle fired like a tongue shooting at shift easily wrapping itself around the confused Hero.

Once wrapped the other creature began to move bending down and running like a zombie with its arms dragging through the air until within reach where its arms were raised and it scratched itself. Where from the new wound upon its face created a yellow smoke through the.

The toxin easily smoked the whole room concealing everyone if not for Shift's mask he'd be breathing in the toxin and blinded; however thanks to his mask none of those ailments came to pass. 

Once engulfed in the toxin Shift intensively went for the Omnitrix but the tentacle prevented such action. Once the Tentacle felt the squirming of its prey the tentacle swung Shift into the wall keeping its grip and making a dent in the concrete wall.

After the collision Shift felt a pop in his right shoulder which was what had hit the wall first and grunted in pain trying to keep his focus on the battle. Which thanks to that was able to escape the tentacle slimy grip thanks to the dislocation of his right shoulder.

Once freed Shift dropped his sword from the pain and slammed his arm against the wall under the cover of the smoke popping it back. Once popped, Shift felt a cold rush over him intuitively telling him to duck.

Which in doing so revealed a stabbing attack from the tentacle into the wall. Once dodged, Shift grabbed his Katanna and charged towards the Penguin, easily cutting off its right wing. As the wing was cut no form of pain was heard or shown through Shift's mask. Scarring Shift more on what exactly these things were.

"The…Doc..tor" wisps of voices were heard speaking together however the voices were different, composed of male and female voices making a horrid symphony of sounds. This infuriated Shift as the voices continued to utter the same accursed message. Deciding now that these voices deserved peace of mind and body.

Shift breathed a calming breath sheathed his sword and without hesitation Shift hit his Omnitrix instigating the green flash of light within the yellow some. Where a high pitched voice was then heard throughout the smoke.

"Ball Weevil!"
