Chapter 28: Chapter 28: The Ride to Azra’s Apartment

The soft hum of the engine filled the car as they drove through the quiet morning streets. Azra sat in the passenger seat, her fingers tracing the edge of her seat nervously, her mind still lingering on the night before. The city outside was slowly waking up, but inside the car, a comfortable silence stretched between them. Yuzarsif's presence beside her was steady, his quiet strength filling the space, but there was an unspoken tension between them—one that neither of them seemed willing to address just yet.

Yuzarsif's grip on the wheel was firm, his eyes focused on the road ahead, but every so often, he'd glance at her, as though checking for some sign, some indication that things were alright. Azra wasn't sure what to say, or even if there were words to express what had happened between them. She could still feel the warmth of his touch from the night before, the gentle press of his lips against hers, the vulnerability they had shared. But now, in the daylight, things felt... different. She couldn't tell if it was the lingering connection or the realization of how much had changed in such a short amount of time.

After a few moments, Yuzarsif broke the silence, his voice steady but carrying a warmth that made Azra's heart flutter. "Are you alright?" His eyes flicked to her again, searching her face for any signs of discomfort.

Azra nodded, forcing a small smile, but it didn't reach her eyes fully. "I'm fine," she replied quietly, her voice betraying her nerves. She could feel the weight of the situation, the way her heart was caught between wanting to acknowledge the depth of what had happened and the fear of what it meant for both of them.

Yuzarsif said nothing more for a while, but the soft concern in his gaze didn't waver. He respected her space, knowing that some things couldn't be rushed or forced into words. They continued the drive in silence, the minutes ticking by as Azra watched the cityscape pass by, her thoughts tangled in a web of emotions she wasn't yet ready to untangle.

As they approached her apartment building, Yuzarsif slowed the car, pulling up to the curb in front of the entrance. The street was quieter now, with only a few early risers starting their day, but the moment felt charged with something unspoken.

He turned to her, his eyes softer now, and spoke quietly. "I'll wait until you're inside, if you want. You don't have to be alone after everything."

Azra glanced at him, feeling the warmth of his words wash over her. His offer was genuine, filled with care, but she could see the subtle way he was trying to give her space, too—he wasn't pressuring her. She appreciated that.

"I'll be fine," she said, her voice steady now, though there was a flicker of something inside her she couldn't quite define. "Thank you, Yuzarsif. But you don't have to wait. I don't want you to feel like you have to…"

Yuzarsif smiled, but there was an understanding in his eyes, as though he knew the weight of her words. "I'll be here if you need me," he said simply. "Take care of yourself, Azra."

With that, he reached over and opened the car door for her, allowing her to step out. Azra hesitated for a moment, her hand lingering on the door frame, before she turned back to look at him.

"I'll be okay," she said, her voice softer this time, the first real sign of the vulnerability she had kept hidden.

Yuzarsif gave her one last nod, his gaze lingering on her before he pulled away from the curb and drove off, leaving her standing on the sidewalk, alone but not lonely.

Rahma's Teasing

The moment Azra stepped into her apartment, she was greeted by the unmistakable sound of Rahma's voice, already teasing.

"Well, well, look who finally decided to come home!" Rahma called from the kitchen, her voice dripping with playfulness. "So, how was your night? Did Yuzarsif keep you entertained?"

Azra's heart skipped a beat at the mention of his name. She had hoped for a quiet return, but Rahma's sharp sense of humor would never let her off the hook so easily.

"I'm just glad to be home," Azra replied, trying to sound nonchalant as she made her way toward the living room. "It's been a long night."

Rahma appeared from around the corner, eyes wide with mischief. "Oh, I bet it was a long night," she said, her voice sing-song. "Tell me, Azra, was it everything you imagined? Or should I start reading between the lines?"

Azra froze, her cheeks burning at Rahma's pointed questions. Her friend's teasing smile was both knowing and playful, but Azra could see the genuine curiosity in her eyes. Rahma had a way of making Azra feel like she had to answer, even when she wasn't ready.

Rahma walked closer, her gaze sweeping over Azra with a teasing look. "Come on," she pushed gently, "I know you've got something to say. Was he as good as you hoped?"

Azra sighed, her hand running through her hair as she looked down at the floor, embarrassed but not exactly unhappy with her friend's questions. "It happened," she said quietly, her voice almost a whisper. "But... I don't know what it means yet."

Rahma's teasing expression softened slightly, but she didn't let up completely. "So, you're not sure if you're still a virgin or not?" she asked with a raised brow, her tone more lighthearted now.

Azra's face flushed a deeper shade of red, but she was relieved that Rahma wasn't pushing her for more details. "Rahma, please," she said, half-laughing and half-groaning at the same time. "I'm not going to get into this right now."

Rahma held up her hands in mock surrender, a wide grin still on her face. "Alright, alright. No more questions... for now," she said, winking at Azra before heading toward the kitchen. "But just know, I'm here for all the details when you're ready to share."

Azra rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a small smile as she watched her friend go. Rahma's teasing was familiar, and even though it caught her off guard, it felt comforting. It was just another reminder that, despite the changes, some things in her life remained the same.
