Billionaire: Money and Power

Chapter 23: Chapter 23 – "A Dangerous Proposition"

Unwanted Visitors

Joshua sat in his office, the lights dimmed. The city outside was alive, but in here, silence filled the room. His eyes were on the note left in his penthouse.

"You're playing well. Let's see how far you can go."

He had expected retaliation, but this? This was different. It wasn't a threat. It was an invitation.

Tunde sat across from him, watching. "Someone walked past security, left that in your house, and vanished without a trace."

Joshua exhaled. "Which means they wanted me to know they could."

Adisa leaned against the bookshelf. "This isn't Umaru. That bastard doesn't do finesse. This is someone bigger."

Joshua nodded. "And whoever it is, they want a meeting."

As if on cue, his phone buzzed. Unknown Number.

Tunde and Adisa tensed. Joshua answered.

A deep voice spoke. "Joshua."

Joshua leaned back. "You have my attention."

The voice chuckled. "Good. We should talk."

"Name the place."

"Not yet. First, you need to prove something."

Joshua's fingers tapped the desk. "And what's that?"

"That you're ready for the next level."

The call ended.

Silence.

Adisa frowned. "That was cryptic as hell."

Tunde smirked. "And also exactly what you expected."

Joshua exhaled, looking at the note again. "Time to see how deep this goes."

The Test

It came faster than expected.

That night, a car pulled up in front of Joshua's penthouse. No security detail. No warning. Just a black Mercedes with tinted windows.

A man stepped out. Late forties, dressed in a sharp black suit, bald, with an unsettling calmness in his eyes. He wasn't a bodyguard. He was someone important.

Joshua walked out to meet him. Tunde and Adisa stayed close.

The man spoke first. "My employer is watching, Joshua. He wants to see if you can handle real power."

Joshua kept his expression neutral. "And how do I do that?"

The man smiled slightly. "There's a senator who has been... problematic. He needs to disappear."

Silence.

Tunde tensed. Adisa exhaled sharply.

Joshua's eyes didn't waver. "Disappear how?"

The man shrugged. "By any means necessary."

Joshua's jaw tightened. "And if I refuse?"

The man smiled. "Then the game ends here."

Joshua studied him for a moment, then smirked. "I'll think about it."

The man chuckled. "Do more than think, Joshua. We'll be in touch."

He got back into the car. The Mercedes drove off, leaving them in the night air.

Tunde spoke first. "That's a line we haven't crossed."

Adisa exhaled. "But it's a line we were always heading towards."

Joshua stayed silent.

This wasn't just business anymore.

This was a different world.

The Decision

Back in the penthouse, Amara was waiting.

She took one look at Joshua and sighed. "Something happened."

Joshua poured himself a drink. "Someone wants me to remove a senator."

Amara's face darkened. "And what are you going to do?"

Joshua took a sip. "Figure out the real reason they want him gone."

She watched him. "And if it's something you can't ignore?"

Joshua didn't answer.

She walked over, placing a hand on his. "Joshua… I know what kind of man you are. But don't let them turn you into something else."

He looked at her. For a moment, the weight of everything softened.

Then his phone buzzed.

One message.

"24 hours."

Joshua exhaled. The clock was ticking.

And this time, there was no safe move.
