Billionaire: Money and Power

Chapter 36: Chapter 36 – "A Name They Fear"

The Weight of a Move

The room was silent except for the faint hum of the television. The news anchor's voice filled the space.

"Senator Ifeanyi Okafor, once a pillar of political influence, has officially resigned following leaked evidence of corruption. The scandal has sent shockwaves through the government, with sources claiming more names may soon be exposed—"

Joshua clicked the remote, turning off the screen.

Tunde sat across from him, arms folded. "You know what this means, right?"

Joshua leaned back in his chair. "Yeah. We just pissed off the biggest power in the country."

Tunde exhaled. "And they're gonna hit back hard."

Joshua didn't look worried. In fact, he looked like he was waiting for it.

"They already called me." He tapped his phone against the table. "Some deep-voiced bastard tried to scare me."

Tunde frowned. "What did he say?"

Joshua smirked. "That I don't understand the game."

Tunde shook his head. "They're right. We don't know how deep this goes."

Joshua's eyes sharpened. "Then we dig."

A Shadow Moves

That night, the city felt different.

Joshua's penthouse was on the 40th floor, high above Lagos, where the noise of the streets faded into a quiet hum. He stood by the window, watching the city lights flicker.

Then—his phone vibrated.

Unknown Number.

Joshua answered.

No words. Just breathing.

Then, a low chuckle.

"You're not as untouchable as you think."

Joshua's grip tightened on the phone. "Then why am I still standing?"

A pause. Then the voice said something chilling.

"Look outside."

Joshua turned.

Across the street, in a darkened office building, a single red dot hovered on the glass.

A sniper's laser.

Joshua's body reacted before his mind did. He moved—fast.

Glass shattered as the bullet ripped through the spot where his head had been a second ago.

Tunde burst into the room. "What the hell?!"

Joshua was already moving. "We need to go. Now."

They didn't take the elevator. Too risky. Instead, they moved through the emergency stairs, descending floor after floor.

Tunde was breathing hard. "They're serious, bro!"

Joshua smirked. "Good. That means we're getting to them."

Tunde gave him a look. "This isn't chess anymore. These guys aren't playing."

Joshua's eyes were cold. "Neither am I."

The Counterattack

By the time they reached the underground parking lot, Zainab was waiting. She had a black SUV, engine running.

"Get in!" she yelled.

They didn't hesitate. The moment the doors shut, she floored the gas.

Tunde turned to her. "How the hell did you know?!"

Zainab didn't take her eyes off the road. "Because they tried to kill me first."

Joshua raised an eyebrow. "And yet, you're still here."

Zainab smirked. "You're not the only one who knows how to play this game."

She tossed a USB drive to Joshua. "That's what they don't want you to see."

Joshua plugged it into his phone, scrolling through the files.

Tunde leaned in. "What is it?"

Joshua's smirk faded. His grip on the phone tightened.

"...A kill list."

Tunde's face darkened. "Whose names?"

Joshua looked up, his eyes burning with something new.

"Ours."

The Order's True Power

They drove in silence, the weight of the revelation sinking in.

Joshua stared at the list. It wasn't just his name. It was Tunde's. Zainab's. Even people they had barely spoken to.

The Order had been tracking them for months.

Tunde broke the silence. "How do we fight something this big?"

Joshua didn't answer immediately. He scrolled further—until he saw something that made his blood run cold.

A single word.

"Erasure."

Zainab glanced at the screen. "That's their highest level of clearance."

Joshua looked at her. "Meaning?"

Zainab's voice was grim.

"It means they won't just kill you. They'll erase everything about you. Your bank accounts, your businesses, your records. It'll be like you never existed."

Tunde exhaled sharply. "These guys are on some next-level villain shit."

Joshua closed his phone. "Then we don't just fight them."

His voice was calm. Cold.

"We expose them."

A Name They Fear

The next morning, Joshua's name was all over the news.

Not because of a scandal. Not because of a leak.

Because someone had put a bounty on his head.

$10 million.

Tunde whistled as he stared at the screen. "Well… that escalated fast."

Joshua leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee. "I should be flattered."

Zainab rubbed her temples. "Joshua, be serious."

"I am serious." He placed his cup down. "Now I know exactly how scared they are."

Tunde shook his head. "Bro, every assassin and mercenary in the country is gonna come after you."

Joshua smirked. "Let them come."

Zainab gave him a look. "You do realize this isn't a game, right?"

Joshua's expression didn't change.

"If they want to put my name on a list," he said slowly, "then I'll make sure it's a name they fear."
