Black Clover: Power Magic

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Punishment

'I am much weaker than I used to be.'

Regis tried to run with everything he had, but he had barely started when his legs cramped up, and he was already exhausted.

He looked at the screen in front of him, which showed how much he had left.

[100 m / 1 km]

'That much left?!'

He kept running as best as he could, trying to complete the training before anyone found him running.

He spent the next two hours running until he finally finished the training.

[Training 7]

[Completed]

[You have gained an increase in Agility, Vitality, and an improvement in your lung capacity.]

"T-That's great," Regis said, lying on the ground with his heart pounding.

'Now I feel like throwing up.'

[Training 8]

[Resist the urge to vomit.]

"A-Another one..."

The urge to vomit increased due to all the running, so he had to resist in order not to throw up everything in his stomach.

"Luckily, I didn't think of eating anything before coming here."

He tried to relax so that the nausea would go away.

[Training 8]

[Completed]

[You have gained a slight improvement in resistance to nausea.]

"That's good," he said, relieved. "I want the next training."

[It is not recommended to overexert yourself at such a young age, as your body may not be able to handle it.]

"It doesn't matter. I have to be strong, so I have to push myself more. Once I'm strong, I'll be able to rest more."

[Understood.]

[Training 9]

[Do 10 push-ups, 10 squats, 10 sit-ups.]

"That little?" he asked, still exhausted.

He got into position to do the push-ups, but as soon as he tried to do the first one, he remained in the same position, unable to move.

"W-What's going on?"

[Your body is already overworked due to excessive running.]

[That is why I advised you not to exercise today.]

Despite the warning, Regis tried to continue with the training, even though he was too exhausted.

"I-I have to do it..."

He barely managed to do one push-up before collapsing onto the ground, his arms trembling.

"I-I think I really am going to rest," Regis said, trying to recover.

[Do you want to cancel the training?]

"Y-Yes, I think I'll do the next one when I'm more rested."

[Understood.]

[Canceling training.]

"T-Thank y..."

[Initiating punishment.]

"Excuse me?"

Regis was confused when he saw that a punishment was starting.

"What do you mean, punishment?"

At that moment, Regis felt as if something was crushing him.

[Punishment training]

[Endure ten times your weight for 1 minute.]

'One minute...'

A minute passed as Regis felt his body being pressed against the ground, making it difficult to breathe. All he could do was try to endure it.

When it was finally over, he felt the weight disappear, allowing him to take a deep gasp of air.

[Punishment training]

[Completed]

[You have gained an increase in Vitality, Strength, and an improvement in your lung capacity.]

"T-That makes no sense..."

Due to the punishment, Regis ended up passing out.

Meanwhile, Helena started looking for him.

"Where did he run off to? I let him sleep a little longer, and he escapes."

Helena, who was now 15 years old, was searching for Regis in the middle of the forest while some leaves fell onto her golden hair.

"I'm going to scold him when I find him. If he wants to go out, he needs to eat first."

She continued looking until she saw something glowing in the middle of a bush. She approached and found Regis unconscious.

"Regis!"

She ran to him, picked him up in her arms, and tried to wake him.

"Come on, Regis, wake up!"

She held him tightly and ran toward the church when she realized he wasn't waking up and was burning up.

"The sisters will help you, I'm sure."

She ran as fast as she could to reach the church and get him healed as soon as possible.

More than a week had passed, during which Regis suffered from extreme surveillance by Helena due to that punishment exercise, although he still tried to sneak away to train.

One of the things he discovered by asking the system was that if he accepted a mission and then rejected it, he would suffer a Punishment of Training that would be ten times worse but also more beneficial.

Despite that, the System was only capable of giving him training that wouldn't kill him due to the way it was designed.

Thanks to that, he only trained once a day with the system and did something normal for the rest of the time—if he could—after ending up exhausted.

At this moment, he was doing push-ups with the system's help when Helena arrived.

"Regis, exercising again. I don't understand why you keep doing this when you're so small," Helena said.

"I-I have to become stronger," Regis replied.

"You're too young, you should have fun with the others instead of training," Helena said worriedly.

"Helena!" a Sister shouted.

"I'm coming! I have to go, but I'll be back as soon as possible," Helena said, patting Regis on the head.

She went to the Sister to get ready.

"It's time."

[Training 16]

[Completed]

[You have gained more Strength and Vitality]

Today was the day when all the young people who had turned 15 would receive their grimoire, so it was Helena's moment.

Regis was resting, looking at the clouds, trying to find shapes in them.

"Hey, when will we start magic training?"

[I still cannot enable magic training until your body is ready to withstand your magic]

"Withstand my magic? What do you mean?"

[Unlike others, you have a rather peculiar magic, separate from the elements but somewhat connected to them]

[Your magic is so strong that it would affect your body, so you must first strengthen your body before training your magic]

"I see. That's a bit discouraging, but it's a good reason to keep training."

He tried to get up, but couldn't move his arms.

"Are you sure the training is working? I don't feel any improvement," he said sincerely.

[It works, but since you are a child, your strength doesn't increase as it would for someone older]

[But I assure you that you will become much stronger if you continue these daily training sessions]

"I think I'll take a nap. Wake me up in an hour."

[Understood]

He closed his eyes and lay down to rest, hoping that when he woke up, Helena would be back or that he would feel better to attempt another training.

As he rested, he noticed a strange smell in the air and tried to figure out what it was.

'It seems familiar, but from where?'

[Is something wrong?]

"I smell something strange."

[I'm sorry, but I am unable to perceive any strange smell around you.]

"Is it because you don't have a nose?"

[That's not the reason. I don't detect any kind of smell around you.]

[Thanks to what you said, I realized that all the smells around you have mysteriously disappeared.]

[I apologize for not noticing sooner.]

Regis got up and looked around.

"Can you tell why this happened?"

[I'm sorry, I don't have that function.]

"Don't worry about it."

He looked towards the forest, where he felt something strange.

"I feel something in the forest."

[I do not recommend going.]

[If there is a danger, you would be unable to defend yourself.]

Regis ignored it and followed where his senses guided him.

As he walked through the forest, he realized that despite having trained recently, he didn't feel that fatigue.

He kept walking until he arrived at a strange stone structure shaped like a skull.

"What is this doing here?"

He tried to make sense of why a stone skull would be in the middle of nowhere, but he couldn't think of a reason.

"It's inside."

He entered the strange structure, searching for whatever he was sensing.

Inside, the structure was dimly lit by torches that barely allowed him to see where he was walking.

Despite not seeing very well, he knew where to go.

To his eyes, a red light was visible, so he kept walking until he reached an altar illuminated by sunlight coming through a hole in the ceiling.

"What is that shining?"

He approached to see clearly and found a silver necklace with a ruby in the center.

"Is this it? Do you know what this is?"

[I'm sorry, I don't have that function, but I sense a bit of mana in it.]

With some hesitation, he quickly grabbed it, expecting something to happen.

"I was hoping for something like Indiana Jones."

He examined it closely and saw a strange letter engraved on it, but he couldn't read it.

He put it on, and that sensation disappeared completely.

"This is really weird."
