Chapter 15: CHAPTER 15
Looking at Kanbaru with the camera on his shoulder, Kurotsuchi Mayuri was speechless for a long time.
Why do you have so many strange things!
> "This camera is a special model,"
"Even Shinigami can be captured in ultra high definition."
> "That day, I really couldn't resist the temptation of Bai Jie next door, so I paid money to buy it from her. There's still a whole vault of treasures in here."
Kanbaru explained solemnly.
Flaw detected.
Opportunity available.
Seeing that the dreaded mop was no longer in Kanbaru's hand, Kurotsuchi Mayuri narrowed his eyes. A cold gleam flashed—and his blade stabbed toward Kanbaru's chest.
Faintly,
Ishida Ryūken and Kurosaki Masaki could be heard exclaiming in panic—but Mayuri ignored it. He had long lost patience with being mocked and led by the nose.
> "Die, you little brat!"
Mayuri's Shunpo was elite. In a flash, he appeared behind Kanbaru.
Got him!
His eyes twisted in cruel ecstasy—
Until they widened in disbelief.
The body pierced by his Zanpakutō shimmered, warped, then dissolved into mist.
An afterimage!
> "Hirenkyaku?" (Quincy high-speed movement technique)
Mayuri's face darkened.
> "I really can't imitate what you do."
Footsteps approached from behind.
Kanbaru lowered the Bai Jie video camera with a calm expression.
> "Your body is impressive."
"Coming to Karakura Town today may be the smartest decision I've made in years."
Mayuri's eyes gleamed wildly. The brat he had looked down on might be the most valuable specimen yet.
According to Seireitei records, there were only three pure-blooded Quincy alive—each on par with a captain-class Shinigami.
Rare, powerful, and near extinction.
But now, a Quincy with power surpassing the known bloodlines had appeared.
Capture him.
Research him.
Dissect his soul composition, genetic structure—perhaps even modify his body.
> "Exquisite."
"What a glorious day."
Mayuri bit his fingertip in excitement, then squinted toward Kurosaki Masaki with an eerie grin.
> "That woman must be important to you, no?"
"Come quietly, and I'll pretend none of these Quincies ever existed."
"Or I'll kill her right now."
He turned to Kanbaru with pitch-black eyes.
> Make your choice.
But in his mind, the answer was obvious.
> Of course I, Kurotsuchi Mayuri-sama, will kill them all!
This Quincy was strange, yes—but once he released Ashisogi Jizō, he could dissect any material. No mop, no tricks—this brat would fall!
> "Choose?"
"Clearly, you've never carried a sack of rice up multiple flights of stairs."
> "Stick."
Kanbaru vanished.
BOOM!
The mop slammed down like a meteor.
It shouldn't be this destructive… but Mayuri refused to make contact with it.
> "Don't be so tense. I'm quite agreeable in conversation,"
Kanbaru said casually, twirling the mop like a noble sipping tea.
> Agreeable, my ass!
Drop that mop, you lunatic!
Mayuri's mask of pain contorted further—he could only dodge, unable to retaliate. Each swing tore through space like a guillotine.
Click!
After a fierce back-and-forth, the mop that terrified Mayuri was finally broken.
Then—
Kanbaru's gaze sharpened. His legs bent, stance deepening, power gathering.
> "Heilig Pfeil!" (Holy Arrow)
Another attack incoming?!
Mayuri's instincts screamed—he prepared to dodge.
But the holy arrow never came.
Instead, Kanbaru appeared in front of him instantly, and—
SLASHED!
Not an arrow.
A sword.
RUMBLE!!
Air split. A shockwave exploded outward like a cannon blast.
> "You said 'Heilig Pfeil'!"
"Why a sword?!"
Mayuri shouted in betrayal.
> "No one said a Quincy can't use a sword,"
Kanbaru said flatly, flicking the Reishi-forged blade.
While Quincies were known for bows, they were not limited to them. In the Wandenreich, several wielded alternate weapons.
Jugram Haschwalth used a broadsword. Bazz-B wielded flames. Even Lille Barro used firearms.
So a blade?
Not unthinkable.
But even stranger—
Kanbaru hadn't activated his Reiatsu.
Hadn't drawn on the Hōgyoku's power.
This wasn't fusion mode.
Just a plain slash—yet Mayuri was flattened.
> "Kanbaru..."
Masaki's voice trembled in disbelief.
> "What's even happening right now?"
"How is a monster like Mayuri losing to him?!"
Ryūken's pupils shrank. His throat was dry.
He always thought Kanbaru was half-blooded garbage.
But clearly—
Kanbaru was stronger.
Much stronger.
> How... how is that even possible?!
> "Just raw material...!"
Mayuri forced himself up and stabbed a flesh-regeneration syringe into his neck. His body twitched and reformed rapidly.
> "Captain Kurotsuchi Mayuri."
"I've said everything I needed to."
> "The rest... might sting a little."
Kanbaru smiled and tilted his head.
> I let you live to test my power.
Now you think I'm weak?
> Alright then. Let's fix that.
> "Missing target?!"
Mayuri's mind reeled.
Kanbaru's Reiatsu vanished—completely.
Vision?
Useless.
Even dynamic perception couldn't track that speed!
> Where is he?!
Suddenly—Kanbaru's voice echoed behind him.
> "If you don't have the power to flip the table, don't throw a tantrum."
"I don't get mad easily—not because I'm calm, but because I skip the shouting... and go straight to the action."
> "Behind me?!"
Mayuri whirled around.
Too late.
A hand gripped his face—
—and slammed it into the ground with earth-shaking force!
> "So..."
"General."
